[ They got a message from Carmen earlier that day and Naegi's been trying to get the Great Eevee Horde under control. Unfortunately for everyone in the house, the anticipation of "omg omg a guest is coming over 8D" is growing exponentially with each passing minute.

Be careful, Carmen. It will take approximately 0.3 seconds for the Eevees to storm into the foyer. ]

[You know, originally the message ahead was intended to be a courtesy for the Dangans to let them know she was in town and would probably be stopping by; she hadn't precisely expected it to turn around and be a courtesy warning to her about what she might be in for when she stopped in.

Oh, well. What's life without a little adventure.

She'd stopped off to pick up takeout before making her way by the house (it being only polite, since she's the guest crashing the place), but given that "enough Asian-style takeout for twelve" isn't exactly a small load to carry, she's a bit bogged down as she makes her way up the steps with an armful of bags and her Kadabra in tow.

Rather than trying to wriggle a hand free, she just taps on the door with the toe of her shoe once she's arrived. They'll figure it out.]

Tuesday, mid-morning, outside Bookwurmple

<sub>[Rain, nor sleet, nor whining Murkrow would keep Jack from the sidewalk sale! Black umbrella on one shoulder and a miserable looking Edgar on the other, Jack digs through the large bins placed just outside the little book shop.]

[Though he hasn't been very impressed with Pokemon Town's literature thus far (except for Dig, which he still tries to get people to read) he's convinced there are some gems hidden. There have to be! He tugs a dark book from the pile that has two different price cut stickers.]</sub>

Hmmmm, what do you think, Edgar? I've found three different books with the title Flying Type, each by different authors. Think we should try this one out or give up?

[ It's the tap-tap-tap sound of over a hundred tiny Eevee feet that tells Naegi that their guest has arrived. By the time he gets up and goes over to answer the door, the foyer is absolutely full with adorable fuzzthings in various sizes and they're all waiting--

--for that moment when Naegi twists the knob and pulls the door open. ]

[To be fair, Carmen's seen at least one adorable fuzzy Pokemon swarm before — the better part of a year ago, back when the Great Puppyocalypse of '13 occurred in Albert Rosenfield's closet and yielded a good two dozen fuzzy wuzzles all at once. This is similar enough, but the key difference here is that while the mass of puppies were generally cheerful and yappy, the Eevee Horde has apparently learned to travel (and swarm) en masse.

She has approximately two seconds before physics catches up (force equals mass times accelleration, kids), and in those two seconds she at least manages to get down off the porch enough that the incoming wave doesn't actually knock her down the steps; it just kind of bowls her over.

The downside to this being, of course, that the bags of food by necessity go flying.

The upside to this being, of course, that Carmen is not an idiot, and her Kadabra is well-trained, so the bags remain safely out of peril as she hits the ground and proceeds to be buried beneath the swarm, and Chief keeps them casually suspended in midair to wait for the master of the house.]

[That's one of the perks of a nice reliable trench coat; even when it's drizzling, the weather doesn't get in the way.]

Excuse me, please.

[Still, might as well get inside and out of the rain, and the bookshop looks like as good a place as any to wait it out. Don't mind her just making a beeline for the door, then.]

_{[Jack is quite happy to step aside, though before she is out of sight, he decides to seek a second opinion. Edgar is being no help.]}

Miss! I don't want to trouble you, but have you read this book?

[Oh, boy. Reading. She's never too busy to stop and chat about a good book, and today is certainly no exception. So she pauses and half-turns, peering quizzically at the cover.]

I don't think I have. At least, the title isn't familiar; what does the back cover say it's about?

Birds--or flying type pokemon, rather, and how terrifying they are.

I was telling my friend here how I've already ran across a few books with this title and none of them were very good. Either it's some kind of writer's curse or bad luck. You wouldn't know where I could find a good horror novel, would you?

W-wait, don't--

[ He doesn't even have to finish the sentence before he realizes it's too late and that the mass of Eevees aren't going to stop. So much for hoping they would ever get tired of doing this. ]

...Are you okay?

[ Naegi runs down the steps and swiftly gathers up six of the furry little things in his arms; he can't possibly carry them all but this will at least reduce the number of Eevees wanting to greet Carmen by trampling and licking her face. ]

[...For real, though, what is it with all the people she's meeting and bird fears lately? Man.]

That's not really my genre of choice, I'm afraid. I usually go in more for a good adventure.

[Glance.]

And given that you have a Murkrow by the name of Edgar, I'm assuming my go-to recommendation for horror is one you've already heard of.

Adventure... _{[Jack had one of those once! He eyes the sad pile of books and returns Flying Type to its brethren.]} Maybe it's time to try something new. Do you have a favorite?

[Fortunately for Naegi, the strangled noises emanating out from amid the eager skittering and squeaking of the horde are actually the sounds of near-breathless laughter, and gradually an arm works itself free — enough so to wave at him in affirmation.]

Fine, I'm —

[EEVEES. She rather unceremoniously shoves one off her chest and sits up, getting at least her head out of the way of the stampede.]

How in the world do you keep up with all these?

I'm rather partial to Dumas's The Count of Mont Couronné, as I've seen it in print around here. Barring that, The Neverending Story by Michael Endewott is an old favorite, as well.

...I wonder that myself, sometimes.

[ Because seriously, that's way too many Eevees for one household. Thankfully their excitement is starting to wear off and some of them are retreating back inside the house. Their work here is done, let's do something else until somebody else shows up. ]

[AND LIKE THAT, THE FLOOD TIDE RECEDES. The relative oddity of it all draws a laugh out of her one last time, and then she seems to shake it off and start working to get back to her feet — an endeavor aided by Chief, who divides his attention between bag-holding for a brief second to give her a light psychic push back upright.]

That's right. And while I respect your devotion to good manners, Naegi-kun, just "Carmen" is fine, if you'd rather.

[She says, with a smile.]

And I don't think you've met my Kadabra yet; this is Chief, my starter.

A neverending story? _{[His face lights up. Now he's interested! Now he has to do the thing everyone does and look at the last page to see if more pages magically appear.]}

I've got a feeling Edgar will remove my ear if I don't get us out of this rain. After you.

[She's certainly not going to argue, given her reasoning for getting inside the bookshop in the first place. And in she goes.]

[For one simple word, it certainly gets a grin out of her.]

I thought you kids could probably use a treat. There's rice, noodles, a few different meats, steamed vegetables. An assortment, really.

Y-you didn't have to bring us lunch, you know. [ Still, he can't help but light up and smile -- especially at the mention of meats. ]

Thank you, Carmen-san. I really appreciate it. By the way, have you ever tried nikujaga?

Nikujaga — that's meat and potatoes stewed in sweetened soy sauce, isn't it? It was invented by naval chefs in the 19th century.

[Thank you, Wikipedia-san. Don't mind her as she just sort of finishes dusting herself off, and Chief nonchalantly floats the bags over toward Naegi at a leisurely pace.]

No, I've never had it, actually. My visits to Japan usually prompted a somewhat more...commercial fare.

...I didn't expect you to know that. Anyway, we're having nikujaga for dinner tonight and I'd like you to join us.

[ The Eevees in his arms are starting to squirm so he quickly sets them down and allows them to rejoin their brethren in the house. He then takes the bags floating toward him and motions for Carmen and the Kadabra to head inside. ]

[She doesn't even have the decency to look sheepish; she's too busy being pleased with herself.]

Are you sure you'll have room for one more at dinner? I was under the impression there were quite a few of you kids staying here.

Several of the others are out traveling right now. There's plenty room.
