☆ YOU ARE HERE ☆




KEY:

• BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors, and the grounds will reflect that; there'll be the usual decorations of pretty floral arrangements, little lights, things like that. Think upscale garden party! There'll also be a ballroom indoors for more traditionally fancy red-carpet goings-on, but most of the action (and volume of guests) will be found mingling out back.
• GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since there's a limited amount of bedrooms in this house and they're all being occupied by Clair, Lance, the Elite Four, and guests who are regrettably way more important than you. However, this is where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in. (Note: you're welcome to try to sleep elsewhere, but Clair might catch you and disapprove. You don't want that, do you?)
• RED areas are unfortunately off-limits to guests! If asked about them, anyone will tell you that those are the rooms and areas that the Elite Four (and their special guests) have claimed for themselves, and they're sealed off tight. Please don't try to break into them anyway; you'll only be caught and punished.

• AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who prefer the classy elegance of a formal red-carpet gala over the more whimsy outdoor garden party atmosphere in the back. There's a big skylight, hardwood floors, tasteful artwork, and classy music — a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.

• AREA B will be the area of interest for anyone hoping to sneak a little Pokemon research on the side: this is the Library/Gallery area of the house. While most of it is your standard "tall shelves of ancient identical books" fare, there are a few points of interest — we've detailed them further right here. Guests are welcome to look around a little, but burying themselves in research the whole time will be highly frowned upon, and you'll be politely encouraged to leave the library alone and go rejoin the festivities if you hole up in there for too long.

• AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. More importantly, it's where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Do it anywhere else and you'll be facing some very displeased hosts.

• AREA D is the Elite Four's Trophy Room. Please be quiet and respectful if you come up here to have a look around; it's a solemn kind of place. Here you'll find various collections of badges, ribbons, awards, and trophies put on display, with one wall devoted to each member of the Elite Four. There are also pictures of the Elite Four members themselves, though it seems there's been a changeover since the last prom; the candids and Official Portraits™ depict different people entirely now (with the exception of Bruno) and there are a few photos of some sort of ceremony among the others. These photos include Lance being declared Champion of both regions by Professor Oak, while the rest of the Elite Four look on; Lorelai hugging Will and Karen immediately after their promotion to Elite Four; Agatha and Koga having an exhibition battle between her Gengar and his Crobat; all six of them piling into the frame for what amounts to a massive group selfie, etc.

[Despite Clair's better efforts to keep all the bigwig guest stars in the indoor ballroom as much as possible, Champion Cynthia is never one to pass up an opportunity to explore a location she's never been before, and let's be real: the Elite Four's palatial estate is positively fascinating, from an architectural point of view. So, while she's assuredly dressed to impress in her black and gold gown and heels, she'll also be spending a fair amount of time seeking to be impressed — whether it be sneaking off to try to catch an early glimpse of the Mysterious Bloobers™, ducking out for a shot at the library, or putting in her requisite time dancing and mingling with people in the indoor ballroom, she's assuredly keeping busy.

And, well, doing her best to subtly keep away from Clair while she's at it; the girl is considerate and disciplined, there's no doubt of that, but there is a line between thoughtful and downright stifling, and she's pushing it.]

A) Indoor Ballroom

[Inside, amidst the glitter and flash of crystal chandeliers and polished hardwood floors, Cynthia's drawing a fair amount of attention. Unsurprising, since Champions tend to do that, but you know how it goes. Still, she seems to be enjoying herself; she's friendly and lively, enjoying the conversation, and seems to be taking about as much time to catch up with her fellow NPC friends as she is meeting new trainers. This is supposed to be a social event for her entertainment, after all, and it's been a while (if at all, in the first place) that she's met some of these visiting dignitaries. All the more reason to get to know them while she's got the chance!]

B) In The Library

[...But if you thought Cynthia wouldn't end up ducking out on the party to hole up in the library and begin to stave off her insatiable curiosity by looking through all those books, you clearly don't know her at all. She's claimed a table for herself, it looks like — her bag is perched atop it, with an unhatched egg snuggled into a makeshift nest of her coat and a Lucario standing around nearby to keep an eye on everything. And her problem seems to be that, well...

Look, there is no such thing as too many books, and by Arceus, she seems pretty determined to take down every single one in this library sooner or later, so as to look through them all.]

C) Outside, Exploring The Grounds

[BLOOBER HUNT 2014. This is where you'll find Cynthia (still in her fancy dress and heels, despite the fact that she's trekking across the grass and therefore the entire thing is a fairly impractical endeavor to begin with) with her Garchomp, a little distant from the actual festivities of the party because she's snooping around to see what sort of rare Pokemon are hiding around Tohjo, and hopefully even to get a look at one of these Bloobers everyone's talking about.]

[One of the trainers (breeders if we're going to be technical) is staring at Cynthia positively star struck. You can almost see the hearts floating off of him and filling the air.]

[It's not because of her reputation, however- in fact he seems to have completely missed that bit.]

What a beautiful dress...

[Fortunately, she gets that a lot, so even if the amour is directed at the dress instead of at, you know, the rest of her, her practical skills at dealing with it are applicable either way.]

Well, thank you! I'm glad you like it. Luckily, I had it in my closet already; the news of this party came on slightly short notice!

[Oh, he's actually being talked to now! Garry seems to straighten up at that and refocuses. Whoops, he hoped he didn't come off as too rude.]

Oh, I know. I had to make dresses for some friends of mine in such a short time, I thought my fingers might very well fall off. I'm afraid it's left me looking rather plain.

[Even if the bright blue rose he's tucked into his breast pocket helps liven things up.]

Oh, I don't think so. Besides, what really matters is that you're having fun, right?

[Luckily, Cynthia's pretty down-to-earth and not as big of a subscriber to the pomp and circumstance that Clair is, so all the dresses and glamor are mostly just a consequence of the real attraction, which is getting to see a new place and interact with a bunch of different people while she's at it.]

Think three days is gonna be enough for ya?

[That would be Joker, looking a little amused as he comes across the scene. Politely, he tips his head to the Lucario standing guard nearby. Hi there, friend, don't mind him, just curious.]

[So long as this mysterious redheaded guy doesn't start trouble for his trainer or for her egg, Lucario doesn't particularly mind either way. He's just here to keep an eye on things like he's supposed to.

...Well, and to make sure that nobody ganks Cynthia's table by mistake, probably.]

To get through all these books? ...Maybe!

[She laughs a little, carrying another armful over to her tabletop.]

Probably! [He laughs right back.] Well, best a luck ta ya. It's quite a collection. Been seein' more than a few people eager to just set up camp in here.

[Just out of curiosity, he looks over all the books she's starting to pile up.]

This just a hobby, or somethin' ta do with work?

[She's pulling down pretty much everything, to be honest, but at the moment she seems targeted on books about Johto myths and legends, particularly as pertaining to the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City, and the Ruins of Alph outside Violet.]

I guess it's a little of both! I like to study myths about Pokemon...it's mostly just out of curiosity, but I think it's important to learn things like that so we can all better understand Pokemon, don't you think?

[It's very hard to miss a Garchomp, just as it's hard to miss a stranger after spending so many years trapped in this world. And, well, seeing how Riku's team seems fully intend on pushing him outside his comfort zone, he might as well start somewhere.

Truth is, he had plans to explore himself, so he'll go ahead and mosey on over with a Charizard at his tail. After all, somebody has to keep the trainer in line.]

Garchomp, huh? You've got good taste in Pokémon.

[...and okay, maybe he's got a soft spot for dragon types. He's gotta compliment her on that.]

[Fortunately, this isn't Clair he's hailing, or the response he might've gotten to that opener would've been more of a haughty-sarcastic "Well, obviously." But, seeing as how this is Cynthia, she's mostly just cheerful about the prospect of having someone to talk to, and if it's someone who likes her Garchomp, well, so much the better.]

It's a little more like I "have good taste in friends". You're another of Clair's guests, aren't you? You look a bit like someone I know — but I doubt I'd ever see him walking around with a Charizard in tow.

Touché. I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel the same way about Flare.

[He shoots his Charizard a grin, to which Flare grunts and does a quick thumbs-up. But does Riku really look familiar to this woman? He raises an eyebrow at the thought and brings a hand to his chin.]

And yeah, I'm one of those... outsiders, so the resemblance is probably a coincidence. Still, who are you talking about? Now you've got me curious.

Mm. I thought so; you have those kind of eyes. Do you know what I mean? The eyes of someone who cares deeply about Pokemon. Your Pokemon...they really mean a lot to you, don't they? That's one of the things that makes a champion.

[And she of all people would know, considering.]

The person I'm thinking of is a Steel-type specialist. So your Flare isn't quite his style.

Well, hello there. [Lancer could not be more inappropriately dressed for a formal event if he tried. Although the shiny Swablu on his head was at least a nice accessory.]

You lookin' for something around here, young lady?

[She's wholly undaunted as she turns toward the sound of the voice, in part because she's always comfortable when she's got Garchomp nearby, but also because of the simple fact that, well...between the line, the outfit, and the Swablu, she wouldn't be taking this seriously even if the guy was some kind of threat. Which she doubts he is.

So in the end, he's just kind of amusing, and she's fine with that.]

Does that line usually work? You might have slightly better luck without the accessories.

[So amused.]

Askin' a couple questions never hurt too much.

[He didn't seem to mind the remark about accessories, reaching up to give the happily chirping Avalon a light scratch behind her head.]

Unless, of course, you're planning to have the angry-looking dragon bite my arm off. In which case I'd probably request you aim for the right one first, I tend to rely on my left pretty often.

[Kaede is awed by the woman's beauty. She was gorgeous, like a princess! Kaede's outfit couldn't compare! She snakes her way through the crowd, easier to do since she's shorter and smaller then the adults that had gathered around the Champion.

But as she manages to get up and front for a good look, the Eevee she has in her arms (poor little girl would get stepped on otherwise) gets knocked out of her hands by accident from a sudden push. The Eevee flies off right in Cynthia's direction!]

Whoops!

[Go quick reflexes, go! One minute Cynthia's casually chatting with a passing gentleman with white hair and an immaculate suit; the next, she's elbowing some other poor bystander aside and making a quick lunge to snatch the bundle of brown fur before it can hit anything — passerby or the ground alike. Eevees are usually fairly good about landing on their feet, but so much the better if they never have to land at all, really.

...Which means that now suddenly Cynthia has herself an armful of Eevee and absolutely no idea where it came from, so she's just going to sort of...blink, a little bewildered, as the surrounding guests begin to coo and awe.]

Now, where did you come from...

[Momoe the Eevee does cry happily and lick Cynthia's hands in gratitude. Meanwhile Kaede is just flushed in embarrassed from her mistake. Not only could she have hurt her beloved Momoe, but she messed up in front of an honored guest. Gosh, was she turning into a klutz like her father?

But there was no way to hide it, she parts herself from the crowd as her Eevee is wagging her tail at her approaching owner.]

Um excuse me, could I have my Eevee back Miss?

[ Someone else seems to have gathered a large collection of books on her own table as well. Eventually, their paths will have to cross, but it'll be Sakura who approaches her with a small frown. ]

I think you have third volume of the series I was reading through. Do you mind if I borrow it for a few minutes?

Oh! Sorry about that. Um, let me just see, here...which one was it?

[There are, after all, a lot of books on that table, and "the third volume" isn't a whole lot to go on considering just how many third volumes she's got stacked up on her workspace.]

[ Geez, there are a lot of them, aren't there? She'll hold up the second volume she was going through at least to help with the search. ]

Are you... reading on anything in particular or just everything?

[...okay, what has happened to the library? There are so many books missing for no good reason. Is this another one of Clair's ludicrous attempts to make sure everyone's paying attention to her and not some perfectly good books? Kayneth is really going to have to say something passive aggressive.

of course, when he turns a corner and sees Cynthia's table with books piled everywhere, things start to make a little more sense.]

Ah, well --- I was wondering what had happened to the library since last year.

[The Lucario stationed next to Cynthia's table gives Kayneth a casual once-over as he turns the corner, as guards tend to do, but it's not anything more than a formality, really; he's just here to see to it that his trainer's things aren't disturbed, and as yet, the man remarking on her stacks of books hasn't actually done any disturbing.

Cynthia, on the other hand, is somewhere up on one of those convenient sliding bookshelf ladders, going after a red-bound book with a spine embossed in gold letters, never mind the fact that she's standing on a ladder rung in a fancy gown and dramatic heels. Books are important!]

Oh, sorry!

[And that should be enough to alert Kayneth to her presence, probably.]

If you're looking for one I've taken down, go right ahead! I didn't think I'd be bothering anybody else's research if I looked at some of these during the party. I just couldn't pass up the chance to see what kind of things the Johto Elite Four have in their library!
