just a small town girl
Who: Veronica Madaraki and YOU!
Where: Goldenrod City
When: October 16th
Summary: A young bodyguard finally finds herself in the biggest city in the region and is completely lost. Time to explore!
Rating: likely PG for Veronica's language
Log:
It had taken almost half a month, following several hiccups involving caves and what was within them, but when her eyes finally found the city of Goldenrod in the distance, Veronica had been filled with relief. Both Union cave, and then the Ilex forest had proven to be troublesome, but she'd muscled through like she always did. And now here she was, entering the biggest city in the region. Even from a distance, she had been able to see that the city was bustling, with tall buildings and people who might have been in the same boat she was.
Obviously, the first thing Veronica had to do was find a hotel and go to bed. Because who cares about socializing when you can sleep in an actual bed for once.
But that was yesterday. Today, Veronica was awake and energized; prepared to take on the city and whatever it had in store. There were things to do around here, and a person or two to see. But not more than that. Veronica was many things, but a social butterfly she was not.
And there was no way she could never keep all her Pokémon in their balls at once. So, with restrained acceptance, Veronica ventured forth into the city, unaware of what she might find, but ready to look.
A: Out and about
Finally out of the hotel.
So, huh. Goldenrod. Lots of tall buildings around here. Yup. Veronica scanned the buildings around her, stopping when she felt her Eevee, Kawa, brush against her feet. Clearly, she wanted to go and explore this new place. It seemed all her Pokémon wanted to go have a look around, but she couldn't have them all out. Not yet. Only Ako and Kawa were out right now. Two were her limit, since the both of them tended to go off in opposite directions.
Eventually she just gave up on planning her day and just started walking, straight forward, in a random direction. Ako rode on her shoulder, and Kawa trailed behind her. She was likely to attract people's gaze just by walking by them, because of the scars on her face and hands. She would brush them off of course, as she always did unless someone came up to talk to her.
But in a large city like this, attention was going to be a given, right?
B: Shopping till you drop
The signs were right after all. The department store was huge, towering over many of the buildings around it. Veronica could easily tell the store had a lot, just from the outside of it and the lobby within.
Still, for as well stocked as it was, Veronica wasn't much for shopping. She'd do a little browsing around, maybe look through the clothing and purchase a few things along with some Pokémon stuff. But mostly she kept to the ground floor and the entrance, leaning back against a wall while keeping an eye out.
It would seem she was waiting for something, or someone. Or, maybe she was just trying to look cool, that was possible too.
C: In which gyms aren't just for exercising
Another Pokémon gym. So, they really were in almost every town, huh?
Veronica eyed the doors leading to inside the Goldenrod gym with curiosity. The sign said the gym leader here was a "Whitney". And from what else she pieced together from overheard conversations, she was a normal type trainer. An interesting fact, if she was planning on using that fact to her advantage.
But, was she really thinking about taking the gym challenge? What was the point in that? Other than to use those hidden machines of course. Did she want to follow the rules of the world like that?
....Of course, this mental struggle will go unheard by most. So people will just see a young woman glaring at the gym from across the street. Maybe someone should point that out to her.
D: Whatever scenario you want idk
Since anything can happen, right?

Normally, Nagi preferred a bit more privacy while he trained. The training areas at the base were nice to use, but they didn't really compare with being out in the field. This one area not quite out of the city was just far away enough to guard from too many onlookers, while at the same time keep away the wild Pokemon that lived on the routes. He wasn't interested in them, today.
He stands in a grassy patch off from the sidewalk with two cats flanking either side of him, looking on as he has two others pitted against each other. An Umbreon stands with her head down, crouched as she stares down a Hoothoot standing a yard or so away, his eyes wide and unblinking.
Oddly enough, the boy says nothing, yet the Pokemon begin to battle. Confuse Ray, dodge, tackle, feint attack, confusion. All of these moves performed with precision, all with no words being spoken. The two cats, however, seem intensely concentrated on the proceedings, and anyone looking close enough might notice that their eyes are glowing a bit.
With his full attention on the battling Pokemon, Nagi doesn't see a sudden light flare in his bag, nor does he notice Veronica walk by just as a light jumps from his bag to the ground. After the light fades, a small pumpkin shakes her head, blinking as she notices the stranger approaching. Immediately curious, she starts to approach her, fangs peeking out from her mouth as she offers Ako and Kawa a grin and a friendly "Pumpkaaa!~"]

The sounds of a battle drew her attention almost immediately, and the bodyguard slowly starting to make her way in that direction. While it didn't really interest her enough to stick around and watch as Nagi's Pokémon fought, she'd walk by at least, to get a good look at the fighting strategies.
Her Pokémon had different plans, however. Because right as they saw the pumpkin Pokémon approaching them, Kawa was already bounding forward to meet her. The young Pokémon was very excited to meet this new face, while Ako flew behind her at a slower pace, ready to investigate this new face. Veronica herself had to pick up the pace, effectively dragged along by her Pokemon.] Kawa, Ako, wait!

....oh no not again.]
Tot!
[He's marching that way before he realizes what he's doing, and after exchanging a quick glance the Meowstic follow. Tot, meanwhile, is very excited to see new Pokemon, it seems. She bounces right up to Kawa with a happy series of chirps, her body glowing softly.]

Kawa!
[Veronica's voice rings out and it catches the Eevees attention at last. Her ears turn downward, sad for a brief moment as she turned her head to watch as her trainer came up the path.
Finally, Veronica reached her Pokémon and crouched down. She was clearly concerned, but that didn't stop her from giving Kawa a few pets.]
What's with you? Running off like that...
[Kawa, not seeing any problem in it, nuzzled her trainer's hand, trying to hop up into her arms. Meanwhile, Ako was still in the air, watching the other trainer approach.
Maybe this will be fun after all.]

Tot.
[Nagi repeats himself a bit more firmly to get the Pokemon's attention. Her ears perk at the sound of his voice, and almost immediately she turns and toddles over to him, reaching her little arms up at him in a gesture of wanting to be picked up.
He hesitates for just a second before relenting, bending down and picking her up.]

Veronica was lucky that Jack was getting his hearing back now so she didn't have to put up with his caps lock nonsense. The tall man leaned around her with a huge grin on his face and wastes no time in shoving a handful of bright orange flyers into her hands. Jack? Desperate because everybody seems hooked on a video game instead of his haunted house? Psshhhh naw!
"You look like you're in need of a good scare!"
no subject
She inspected one of the flyers, her brow furrowing. "A scare, huh?"

Henry's shift had just ended at the Game Corner, but he didn't really feel like going back just yet. Instead, he headed over to the Gym he'd heard so much about. Several different people had explained to him about the way that Gyms work in Johto, and while he didn't have any interest in defeating them all himself (unless someone told him to), the Trainers in there were sure fun to watch. All of them treated their Pokémon with respect, and the way the humans and Pokémon trained together was pretty inspiring to see.
He rounded a corner and noticed a young woman in an interesting hat standing across the street. It looked vaguely familiar...
"Hey!" he called, approaching her. "You're that one with the scars, right?"
no subject
"What the hell..."
Oh.
Oh. She remembers you.
Her expression turned blank as she realized she didn't know how to answer that. Even though it was pretty obvious that she had a ton of scars. "Uh... I, uh..."
no subject
Honestly, he couldn't help but laugh at her. Veronica's feeble attempts to come up with a response were just too funny.
"What, you forgot me already? Is your memory always this bad?"
no subject
She shifted from one foot to the other, giving him a slightly exasperated look. "N-no... I didn't..." A sigh. "You're here too, huh?"
no subject
"Sure am," Henry replied, folding his arms and smirking. "I actually live here."

Not that she particularly minded his being there, but...well, she knew how he responded to strangers.
She glanced around the area, in search for the girl she was to be meeting with, and quickly noticed her leaning against the wall. Flashing a shy smile, she made her way up to the other, with a faint greeting of "Veronica!" leaving her lips. Her Pokémon followed, of course, with Apollo standing behind her and Hugh, on the other hand, darting in front of her protectively, glaring up at the unfamiliar face with a snarl. This caused Juniper to yelp in surprise, petting the canine's head gently as to try and calm him down; the tactic worked, after a while, to which Juniper decided it would be better to start speaking before he had the chance to get riled up again.
"U-Um...please forgive him...he's like that with everyone he doesn't know, but he'll warm up to you eventually, I'm sure." She glanced down at the Mightyena again, who seemed less hostile than before but still wary, then returned her gaze to Veronica, her smile growing even more sheepish. "...How are you, though? Did you have a nice trip?"
no subject
Unfortunately, with Hugh growling, a flash of light shot out from one of the pokeballs under her cloak. In a flash, Paku the Growlithe was at Veronica's side, giving the Mightyena a growl of warning as well. "Easy, Paku." Veronica's voice was commanding, and she crouched down to give him a few pets. It worked, and the fire dog Pokémon stopped and took a seat by her side, though he was obviously still wary.
She stood up again, giving Juniper her attention. It was strange, meeting people in person after talking to them so much on the Pokegear. Hopefully she wasn't absolutely terrible at it. "....It's nothing. He's just protective is all."
Veronica was stuck by some confusion "Me?" She was still surprised by how much some people cared about her. Veronica had to think it over, giving Juniper a reassuring look. "I'm fine. the caves were easy to get out of, once I figured out what Pokémon to use." She offered an equally sheepish smile.
no subject
"Well, that's good to hear...that cave is rather troublesome, isn't it" Honestly, it was rather difficult for her to make her way through them as well, and those Zubats seemed to have taken a liking to her as they accosted her almost every time she took a step. But the most important thing is that she's still here and much safer than before.
"...Were you wanting to purchase something here, or were you just using it as a meeting point?"
no subject
A nod. "It wasn't that hard, after I figured out what to do. And I trained some of my Pokémon along the way." A thought crossed her mind and she sighed, looking rather unimpressed. "I caught one of those bat Pokémon that were attacking me, and it didn't even help." She'd have to train it more, at least get it to like her.
....Oh. She hadn't really thought about that. "Well, I was mostly gonna wait for you. But I should probably do some shopping. It's been a while since the last time I did."
Meanwhile, Kawa took this as the perfect moment to go up and say hello to this new person, letting out a small, happy cry. Hello person! How are you?
no subject
After a moment, she rose back up, brushing off her dress as she nodded. "If you'd like to go shopping, I don't particularly mind...ah, that reminds me!" She reached around her, pulling her backpack off of her and bringing it to the front so that she could rummage through it. After a moment, she pulled out two stones: a Dusk Stone and a Sun Stone, just as she promised. She handed them to Veronica, her smile growing as she did.
"Here you are...I would have sent them using the PC, but...I didn't have any Pokémon to send them with. I just decided to wait until you arrived."

[With some shopping bags hanging from one arm, Garry is looking a bit concerned at Veronica. Besides him is a large Garchomp also helping with the shopping, but Garry manages the impressive feat of being even taller than that.]
no subject
[Veronica finally broke her gaze from the gym doors and looked over at-oh.
There was a brief moment as Veronica's eyes slowly traveled up until she was finally looking at Gary's face. Huh.]
Ah, yes...?
no subject
[Uh]
A little out of it.

[She might be joking, but then again, Veronica was the kind of person that was terrible at making jokes.]
