Summary: After all the shenanigans of Hoennween, it's about time everybody had a chance to relax and unwind, courtesy of some actually benign NPCs. With all the luxuries of the Hotel Richissime waiting at their disposal, that shouldn't be too difficult a prospect!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• At the moment, this log spans the entirety of the New Year's Eve plot, so starters may be posted for any time on either day of the event. If things start getting massive and it looks like an overflow log will be necessary, we'll definitely see about putting one up, and will link it to this one if need be.

• The Event Itinerary can be found here! Remember that participating in this course of events is not mandatory, but it's what will be going on in the grand scheme of things over the course of the event.

• All event participants are being housed on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Your bedrooms are laid out like this; if you participated in our IC Rooming Roulette, you can find your buddy on this table here!

• Most activities here will be free! ICly, your characters will use their room cards to "pay" for most things, and the charges will be applied to their room (which of course, they are not paying for personally). Gift shops, parts of the casino, and food not provided as part of the event are not chargeable to your rooms and characters will have to use their own money in those locations.

• Underage characters may use the casino; however, they may be subject to some social scrutiny and side-eyeing in the event that they attempt to get in on one of the high-roller tables.

A NOTE ABOUT USING THREADS ON THIS LOG FOR AC:

Because of how our AC period works (the grace week into January still counting toward December), all threads on this log are valid toward December's AC, regardless of timestamp! However, because the log technically spans two different months and we want to encourage tagging out on it, we have also made this decision:

On this log and this log alone, comment threads timestamped in January (OOCly) that reach AC-length may be used towards January's AC, as well. Therefore, if a thread on this log reaches AC length with 10+ comments timestamped in January, you can use it toward January's AC (assuming the same thread has not already been used to satisfy December's AC).

[ His hands slide a little further down Raikov's back. ] But I must confess to some curiosity about the hologram show we were promised. One doesn't see one of those every day, after all. Do you think you can hold out until then?

Mmm... I don't know...

[He sways his hips in a more exaggerated manner as they dance.]

You make it difficult... but I can try.

I suppose I ought to take that as a compliment. [ And he does. ] But I doubt I'm that irresistible. You'll survive.

You don't have the time, do you?

Well, with the combination of my sexual appetite and how handsome you ate, it can be difficult at times...

[He purrs, grinding their hips together.]

I only have my Gear on me. I'm sure they'll make an announcement when the show is about to begin.

[ Oof. He does his best to delicately maneuver himself out of grinding range. Not that it doesn't feel good - it feels great - but damn it, Raikov, have a little self-control! ]

Well, they'd better make it soon. [ Because at this rate, whether or not he can hold out until midnight is an open question. ]

[Self control? Him? Pff. Please. Raikov notices him move away slightly though and smirks.]

Why? Getting impatient...?

You'd like to believe that, I'm sure.

[ Possibly because it's 100% true. But damn it, he's supposed to be the one actually capable of keeping his baser desires in check in this relationship. ]

I'm merely interested in seeing these holograms, that's all.

[Raikov has that effect on men. And he knows you're lying, V.]

Mmhmm... I'm sure. I do wonder what sorts of things they can do with holograms nowadays. Back in my world, they were just something you read about in science fiction.

[ To be fair, it isn't all that hard to tell. Not exactly the world's best liar here. At least, not when it comes to personal matters. ]

I admit a certain lack of knowledge on the subject, myself. But I can tell you holograms are hardly widespread in 2001, at least. What sort of progress they have made in fourteen years, or in another world, I find myself rather unqualified to speculate.

I've heard this place is far more advanced than most places, even by this year. If they have the ability to put huge animals into tiny containers, I imagine they can make just about any sci-fi technology become real.

Fair point, I suppose. Far be it from me to assume anything about how this blasted world operates.

[ As the current song winds down, an announcement rings out: the next dance is to be the final one before the hologram show. So enjoy it, gala-goers! ]

Well, finally. [ He realizes as soon as he says it how that probably came across. ] Er, I mean... not that I don't enjoy dancing with you, it's just, the holograms, you understand -

[ He cuts himself off, takes a deep breath, and looks up at Raikov. ]

That is - may I have this dance?

[Raikov knew what he meant thankfully. He smiles and perhaps even blushes a bit.]

Of course.

[What a way to ring in the new year. ... Honestly, he couldn't think of a better way to spend it.]

[ Damn it, Raikov, don't start with the blushing. You're going to make feelings happen again.

The last song is an appropriately slow and sentimental one. Valmont ought to be enjoying himself quite as much as Raikov apparently is, but something feels off. He's done this sort of thing countless times, so why...?

Maybe because none of those countless times had been with someone he actually cared about?

He shakes his head. Bloody stupid feelings. Ignore them, Valmont. Just concentrate on the dance. ]

[Considering the only things Raikov is concentrating on is the song and Valmont, he notices something seems off. He waits for a few moments before he decides to bring it up.]

... Everything alright?

[whitehairedprettyboy]

[ He looks at Raikov, finally, because he's been sort of avoiding the man's eyes. What is he supposed to say? No, everything is not all right, I think I might have actual feelings for you and it's scaring the hell out of me? That's kind of a bombshell to drop right now, and besides, who knows if Raikov even feels the same way.

Then again, maybe it doesn't matter if he does. Feelings or not, this is nice. Dancing together, holding each other... He's happy like this. He really is. Does he need anything else? ]

Everything's... fine.

[ And almost everything is. ]

[Raikov frowns. He expected that answer from him, of course. He'd been with him long enough to know when something was on his lover's mind.

The Russian strokes the back of Valmont's head and leans in closer with a concerned look on his face.]

You seem distracted.

[whitehairedprettyboy]

[ He flinches a bit at Raikov's touch, but doesn't pull away. ]

That's ridiculous. What would possibly be distracting me?

[ Oh damn, he hopes Raikov doesn't think he doesn't want to be here. He wants nothing more than to be here right now. His grip on the other man's waist tightens a little, as though he thinks Raikov might try to run away. ]

What indeed.

[He almost leaves it at that but that'd just leave a bad taste in his mouth. There is the chance that Val really doesn't want to be here right now. But then why would he have asked him to dance...? To cover up something?

He's probably just over analyzing.]

... Would you prefer we stop dancing?

[ It comes out a bit louder than he intended. Some of the couples dancing nearby stare pointedly. He lowers his voice. ]

No. Just... let's just not say anything, all right? Not right now.

[ Because if he keeps talking he's just going to make things worse for himself, isn't he. He leans his head closer to Raikov's shoulder. If they can just finish this dance... ]

[... Raikov's torn. Question him more and possibly find out what's wrong or just pretend nothing's wrong and ultimately ruin this last dance?

... Yeah, he's going for the former.]

There's obviously something upsetting you. Did I do something wrong?

[ Damn it, Raikov. ]

Not this time. If you must know, I'm afraid I may have done.

[ Sigh. ]

[ He suddenly, uncharacteristically buries his head in Raikov's shoulder. Raikov smells great, as always. It really isn't fair. None of this is fair.

Well. There doesn't seem to be much turning back at this point. He takes a deep breath and mumbles something very quickly, of which the only potentially intelligible word is: ]

...feelings...

Mmph...

[... That was unexpected. Raikov glances down at him, not that he can see. Over the music and the fact that Valmont's mumbling, he couldn't really make out what the man said.]

What?

[whitehairedprettyboy]

I said I might have feelings for you, you bloody idiot!

[ Well, that came out louder than he intended. If Raikov could see his face, he'd notice that it's about ten shades redder than it's ever been. ]

I mean -

[ Should he take it back? Can he take it back? His hands let go of Raikov's waist, the better for him to make a quick escape if he has to. ]
