You have no chance to survive
Who: Rocket Grunts, Magma Grunts, and Aqua Grunts! Basically all the Grunts!
Where: The Whirl Islands and Cinnabar Island
When: February 1st
Summary: Pretty much this
Rating: PG-13? It doesn't need to higher than that? Right, guys?
Log:
The orders are pretty simple. Go in. Wipe out the Team Aqua and Magma Grunts. That's it. So there's not going to be any farewell speeches or anything like that from the Admins because they're of the opinion that you guys have totally got this.
And if you don't...
Well, don't worry about that for now.
Instead, just worry about getting to the nearest base and boarding a helicopter. After that, you've got a short (or long, depending on which base you're heading to) ride ahead of you to some islands in the middle of the ocean, inhabited by a bunch of Aqua and Magma Grunts who have no idea this surprise is on the way. So just do what you do best, Rockets!
And as far as the Admins are concerned what you do best should be to win at all costs. Anything less and well, that would just be an embarrassing return to the region for them. And nobody wants that.

“Hey, I'm still here! Let me remind you by hitting that Heliolisk with a Take Down!”
Mightyena darts forward towards its new target because, let's be honest here, anything against that Bisharp isn't going to do much damage.
“Golbat! Confuse Ray on Bisharp!”
Yeah, they can't really hurt it. But maybe they can confuse it so it hurts itself? Clearly these two are master strategists.

...
...okay, very stupid. Besides, Archer would probably laugh at her, and we can't have that!]
Thunderbolt again, Henry! I'm getting tired of these two!
[No sense in changing a good thing, after all; once Henry is back on his feet after that Take Down attack (which hurt, darn you!), he immediately fires off another Thunderbolt at that Golbat. Fighting Flying types is his favourite!]

And leaves both Grunts without a Pokemon on the field, so this time, he's just going to hand her a Pokeball before she asks, but oddly enough he still doesn't look, confident is probably about the right word, confident in their chances of winning here.
“All right! Let's finish this!” she exclaims throwing the Pokeball and sending out...a Poochenya. A level 3 Poochenya. His Pokemon? A level 12 Zubat. Yup. That's what they're making their last stand with.
“Why did you even bring these Pokemon? Didn't they just hatch a couple weeks ago?”
“Yeah, but how was I supposed to know we'd get invaded today?”
Bickering ensues instead of y'know, giving any commands or anything.

...she'll think about that later. At this stage, it's pretty clear that the two of them are going to win. After all, isn't that...just a puppy...?
...this feels really cruel, but...]
Use Thundershock on the...Zubat.
[Please don't beat up the puppy too bad, Archer...]

The Gallade looks a little appalled by his order, but he carries them out. He rushes forward in an attempt to land a Close Combat on that poor Poochyena because apparently Archer just isn't satisfied without overkill.]

“...we lost.”
The male Grunt just sort of throws his hands up because yeah, that happened.
“It's your fault. You're the one who brought your stupid baby Pokemon. Wait till Archie hears about this.”
And she's going to Escape Rope out of here, leaving him to try and run out of the room to go...grab one since apparently he forgot one today. Most competent Grunts ever!
1/2
Hah! We won! Take that, Team Aqua!
2/2
I...!
[Right, Archer is still here, um. Right.
...god, this is kind of awkward-]
...well. I guess that's that, then!
[...what. what now]
no subject
That said, Archer doesn't bother trying to stop them, instead recalling the Gallade. Emmy's remark earns a look, but he doesn't seem all that bothered now.]
...You were better than I thought you'd be.
[ARCHER YOU DID NOTHING THE WHOLE BATTLE, SHUT UP]
no subject
[That was nowhere near as grumpy as it could have been, however, so...!
...
are we really just going to stand here being awkward WHY THIS-]
...you're not using Alekhine anymore, then?
[THIS IS REALLY AWKWARD]
no subject
[Rude.]
I am using Alekhine, but there have been some... complications.
[...Alekhine won't listen to him because he still doesn't have Clair's badge.]
The one I'm using now is Alekhine's daughter and she's as skilled as he is.
[AND OF COURSE IT'S AWKWARD, YOU'RE DEALING WITH ARCHER!!!]
no subject
I'll take your word for it.
[...you know, that mention of 'Alekhine's daughter' actually makes Emmy sad for a moment, because...you know, she used to raise one of his daughters herself.
...but that just takes her back to how that happened and oh god SHE DOESN'T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT-]
...
[awkward silence
....
....more awkward silence]
You're not high-ranked anymore, are you? Like what Mr Kimblee is.
[SURELY ARCHER WILL APPRECIATE THIS TOPIC OF CONVERSATION]
no subject
YOU TRY TO BREAK THE AWKWARD SILENCE WITH AN EVEN MORE AWKWARD TOPIC
EMMY NO]
That's none of your business.
[And that seems to be his cue to turn and head off in a completely random direction because like hell if he knows where he's going in this stupid base!!!]
no subject
[FURIOUSLY TROTTING AFTER YOU, THANKS-
...
...oh forget it, she'll come to a stop.
...at least she can still shout after you.]
I'm just trying to work out what's going on in this team!
[...
...]
Why do you hate me so much?!
[Ugh, that's enough. Grumbling furiously to herself, Emmy sits down on the floor and...well, starts stretching angrily while her Heliolisk just looks kind of confused. Another...puzzle solved?
...or not.]
no subject
loyalmember of this organization for years and the fact that Emmy's found herself in it still baffles him. She doesn't seem the sort. She's probably trying to gather information on the team to sell it to the PGC or whatever. So that's definitely not getting an answer. The second question gets him to pause, though he doesn't turn to face her.
Why does he hate her so much? No, that's not really the right question to ask. Why does he keep acting this way after it's been such a long time? He can acknowledge that what he did was out of line and completely his fault. He knows that. He's said as much to Kimblee several times.
But what it ultimately comes down to (outside of his pride, of course) is that if he acknowledges that he was in the wrong to her, then he has to figure out how to treat her. He has to decide if he genuinely hates her or not. And maybe - just maybe - he'll find that he's been wrong about that too.
Archer doesn't like being wrong.]
...That doesn't have anything to do with our mission here.
[The words are carefully chosen and Archer still doesn't turn to face Emmy. Now really isn't the time to talk about this. There probably won't ever be a time to talk about it or a time where he's willing to talk about it, but at the very least you've got him thinking about it.
So uh, congrats?]
no subject
....hm.
Placing her hands on her hips, Emmy just sighs. When she speaks, her voice is at its normal volume and has lost a lot of the bite, but it does take her a moment to get the words out.]
...
[Ugh, this shouldn't be so difficult...]
...could you at least tell me if it's about more than just what happened with Kimblee and I on Valentine's Day? Because if it is, it wasn't anything personal.
I just don't know what else I could have done to bother you so much.
[...apart from stopping your bombing attempt on Ecruteak BUT AT LEAST SHE DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS YOU]
no subject
[But it was much easier to blame you than it was to blame Kimblee, because blaming Kimblee brought with it the risk that he'd leave, and if he left...
Well, that's not the point. That was a long time ago. Archer finally turns to face Emmy, though his expression is carefully composed. It looks too blank for the topic of conversation.]
There wasn't anything specific you did. I could say that it's because we clash personality-wise, but if I'm perfectly honest, I don't know what it is.
[...]
I think it's just easier to hate you.
[It's strange to be admitting this now, in the goddamn Team Aqua base of all places, but he can't stop himself.]
no subject
But that...it's so illogical! If you've got no real reason to hate me then why not just stop?
[It defies logic, and Emmy has made a career out of seeing the logic in every situation. Didn't he basically just admit that his hatred has no basis? Then...why?!
This is one puzzle she's not sure she can solve.]
I mean, we're co-workers now! If anything, just do it for that, Archer! I'm not demanding that you like me, but if you're going to hate me then at least have a good reason for it!
[The co-worker comment makes her realize that...yep, they are having this argument right in the middle of an important mission, deep in enemy territory. Sad as it is, however, she can't say she'd mind too much if those grunts they'd fought earlier came back. At least it would be a distraction from this mess.]
no subject
...We can discuss this some other time. We have a mission to carry out.
[He still doesn't seem angry though. In fact, there doesn't seem to be any emotion behind the words. Archer once again turns to leave.]
no subject
That felt like taking one step forward, followed by two steps back.]
...at least we didn't end up in a shouting match. Come on, Henry.
[Beckoning to her Helioptile, who eagerly trots after her (rather relieved, in all honesty), Emmy bursts into a sprint, trying to rid herself of her thoughts in the most effective way she knows how.
If they know what's good for them, those Aqua grunts won't get in her way.]
