Where: New Bark Town
When: February 23
Summary: Meeting up with a friendly face.

Log:
Traveling through dark portals? No big deal for Naminé. She's done it so many times before in so many different places. She'd gotten through the whole of Twilight Town that way, after all. So when Riku let them go and she'd run through Axel's portal, she hadn't really thought much about it. Business as usual: Running away from someone who wants to get rid of you. No big deal.
Except this is kind of a big deal. This world is nothing like back--not home, because it's laughable to think that she could ever have a home--where she's from. The feeling is different. And the creatures she's encountered? They never existed, not even in her wildest dreams or imaginations. Not to mention Riku's being here... and Sora and Kairi, too. There's a part of her that hopes they will manage to find her. Another isn't sure she'll know how to act.
At least she has a friendly companion to follow her around. Mini's perched on her shoulder, looking around curiously. One of them has to be curious and social, right? Mini can compensate for what Naminé doesn't have. It's like they're two halves of a whole, something Naminé didn't know she was missing and never thought she'd have.
Right now, though, she's waiting for someone else. Hopefully she'll be able to find her. Naminé's thinking she doesn't have the most impressive presence--what if Lightning passes right by her?

But liking it might mean she would never want to leave.
She sees a young girl with what she could only describe as some strange, grey cat thing with round ears. That must be her. She heads over and nods, Vanille wiggling. "Naminé."
no subject
To greet Vanille, Mini jumps down and flails her little arms. She makes a series of excited squeaks, gesturing wildly. Mini's jumping up and down a bit, trying to reach the Mareep. Naminé is at a loss for what to say for a while, but she finally manages to find something.
"Hello... um, I guess you didn't have much trouble finding me."
no subject
She puts Vanille down, and the Mareep tackles Mini in a friendly way. She bleats happily and nuzzles the other Pokémon, her tail wagging with delight. Lightning sighs softly.
"No, I didn't. But why are you all the way over here?"
no subject
"It's... calming. I've never seen such a large amount of water before." Curiosity, then. Naminé's telling a half-truth, though; she has seen a lot of water in one place. Just not for herself, but through Sora's memories. Making her own memories... now that's an idea.
no subject
"I used to live on an island. It was tropical, so this place is very different." She looks out over the water for a while before turning to Naminé again. "I was told by someone that there's a town down Route 29. Apparently it leads to a place called Cherrygrove." She didn't know why she was so talkative with this girl. She watched her before averting her eyes. This girl was like Serah. A quieter Serah.
no subject
"Cherrygrove... it sounds nice." Naminé's still nervous about traveling. It's different than traveling through dark portals--it took only a moment to get from one place to another. This is a completely different way of moving. And the place is entirely new. At the same time, Naminé would hate to tear Mini away from her new friend. Her focus is back on the two Pokémon. "... They seem very close already."
no subject
She nods as she starts watching the two Pokémon. "Do you need someone to travel with? I'm heading in that direction. As long as you don't mind Vanille refusing to get into her Pokéball."
no subject
The offer is pretty unexpected. Naminé gives Lightning a pretty surprised look--does she really want to travel with her? They just met, and surely Lightning would rather travel with someone else. But... if she's really offering... Or maybe she's just offering out of pity. Naminé shifts in place, hand on the strap of her bag. "... Well... if you really don't mind... I'd like that."
no subject
Lightning would never ask something of someone out of pity for them. Besides, Naminé doesn't look like she would leave this place on her own. Part of getting over fears was facing them. "I wouldn't have asked if I minded. Besides, I was encouraged to travel with someone else. Neither of us has a map. At least you wouldn't get lost alone."
no subject
"... Thank you, Lightning." She turns to the road leading out of New Bark Town. Her grip on the strap of her bag tightens just a fraction. She glances at Lightning and gives her a nod--lead, Light, and she'll follow.
no subject
She looks around and studies their surroundings along the way, her ears listening for any rustling. "We should find wild Pokémon along the way. Are you prepared to battle and catch them?"
no subject
Lightning's question gives her pause. She thinks on that for a while. "I... would like to think so. But... I don't think I'll know until I'm in that situation." She looks down at Mini. "I'll do my best... Or at least try."

Honestly, if it weren't for Riku's guide, Naminé would be even more at a loss. But she trusts Mini, too; Mini follows her trainer's orders as Naminé calls them out. Mini's Pound isn't the strongest, but it's enough. And a moment later, Naminé has a Pokéball in her hand. When the Espurr is dazed, she takes her chance and tosses the capsule at it.
It's a tense wait as the Pokéball drops to the ground. Naminé's not really expecting to be successful--it's her first time, after all--but one shake, two shakes, three shakes later, and the Espurr is securely inside. There's a quiet moment as several emotions flicker over her face: shock, disbelief, and finally, a very subtle triumph. It comes in the form of relaxed shoulders, an exhale of breath, and closed eyes. There's even a tiny smile there. Naminé crosses over and gently picks up her spoils of battle. Slowly, she turns to Lightning, holding the Pokéball to her chest like a treasure.
"I... didn't think I would actually be able to do it."
no subject
When the Pokéball stopped shaking, Lightning couldn't help but smile softly. "You can do anything you put your mind to. Good job. You've got a new-" Friend? Companion? Naminé might prefer the former. "Friend. Take good care of it."

"Vanille! Dammit, learn some patience!" she huffs, Vanille bouncing back over to her side and looking oh-so-pleased with herself. "Fine... Go tackle it again." Vanille bleats with excitement and tackles the Espurr again. Espurr defends itself as much as it can, hurting Vanille a bit. When it was worn down, Lighting threw the Pokéball. She feels ridiculous doing this, but she waits for the ball to stop shaking. With the click she lets out a breath. "Well, that could have been worse."
She walks ovr and picks up the ball before looking at Naminé. "Guess we have matching Pokémon now."
no subject
"Are you... going to name it?"
no subject
"His name is going to be Hope."
Lightning -> Naminé -> Phoenix
But traveling with Lightning... there's a part of Naminé, a very small part, that thinks she can have some hope of her own.

He makes a few more stops in town before setting off down the road, himself, and after a while, sees the two of them battling in the distance.
Not wanting to intrude, Phoenix hangs back for a moment, watches the fight with mild interest. Prin, still seated on his shoulder, chitters with excitement at seeing the other Pokemon battle. Once the Espurr have been caught, Phoenix decides to approach, calling out, "Hey, Lightning! I guess we had a different idea of what 'docks' meant, huh?" He jokes, and as he grows closer, Phoenix recognizes the other girl with her; Namine, who he'd also met in town. "Oh, I didn't realize you two knew each other."
no subject
She nods as she looks as Naminé with a very faint smile. "She's the first person to contact me after I got here. I figured traveling with her would be good for the both of us." She means herself and Naminé, but if Phoenix wants to insert himself in that equation, he can feel free to. "Besides, less danger if there's more people."
no subject
"I didn't expect to see you so soon again." Mini's securely in her arms again, and Naminé holds her close. "Is it... okay for all of us to travel?" Mostly because she doesn't want to impose, really. The thought of traveling with them both, though... it's a nice one.
no subject
He lets his Aipom do as she pleases, turns his attention to Lightning, instead. "I don't have a problem with it, as long as all three of us agree." And if they're all going in the same direction. "Did you still want me to show you how to get to Goldenrod, Lightning?"
no subject
Lightning nods. "I wouldn't have offered to travel with you two if I didn't want to." She could have pulled a lone wolf easily. But she needs help. "I'd appreciate it. You've been here before, so you get to lead. Don't mess up." See, she can be nice sometimes.
no subject
"This route doesn't look too dangerous, at least." Or maybe she could be horribly wrong. Appearances can be deceiving, and all that. "Is it?" It could be hiding surprises, nasty or otherwise. But then again, everything here is a surprise.
no subject
Phoenix takes the head of the group, with Prin bouncing along behind him, far more interested in the company than her trainer at the moment. Let's just hope she doesn't accidentally trip anyone. Phoenix continues, "There's only two real ways you can go from here. One is to Cherrygrove, and the other you can't even get to from this direction. In conclusion, it's pretty simple!
All you should really be on the look out for are wild Pokemon, and the ledges."
no subject
"Wild Pokémon shouldn't be a problem, but ledges? Can't you just climb those?" she asks, not quite sure why ledges would be considered a bad thing. She can just jump those.
no subject
She stays pretty quiet until the subject of ledges comes up. "Maybe... there's something preventing us from doing that."
no subject
Luckily, though, I have a friend in Goldenrod who says that there's a certain Pokemon you can use to get over them again. We didn't have those the first time I was here, though."
no subject
She looks around, trying to see if she could see one of these ledges, and how high they were. She knew that she was more than capable of jumping higher than a normal person. She now wants to see if she can do this, or wait till she gets a Pokémon that could help.
no subject
"... What kind of Pokémon is capable of jumping ledges?"
no subject
Phoenix veers the group towards the ledge-less part of the path, back closer towards the tall grass. "Jack called them 'Freedom Goats', but I think that's just Jack being Jack. Gogoat was the proper name, I believe."
Not that Phoenix wouldn't pay to see Lightning try anyway.
no subject
"Then let's move on. We're burning daylight staring at some dirt that happens to be higher up than the rest. I want to get to Cherrygrove as fast as possible."
no subject
"Well... I've heard it's a few days' walk to Cherrygrove. We might have to set up camp eventually..." Camping? That's something she's never done before. If she has to help out with setting up, she only hopes she won't mess up. Naminé turns to Phoenix now. "Um... Did you have to camp out a lot? The last time you were here?"
no subject
Phoenix nods. "I did. I usually had some others with me, which wasn't so bad. You end up getting used to it." Having Pokemon that produce resources like fire and water naturally helps a lot. "Camping out on the routes is a lot easier than camping in, say...the forest past Azalea, for example, or in the caves.
Actually, we're in luck -- a friend of mine is supposed to be sending me some camping supplies, so we should be all set there." France was awfully generous with his offer. Phoenix glances up to the sky, makes sure the Driftblim France had mentioned weren't already incoming before continuing, "They're being carried here by two Pokemon called Driftblim. They're like, er ... large, purple balloons. That are also ghosts."
no subject
Lightning just listens to Naminé and Phoenix talk. Camping out was no problem for her. Find a safe place, make a perimeter, sleep in shifts, and make sure that if you light a fire that it stays lit. Pack up in the morning, and repeat the following night. The only thing was making sure no one died during the night due to weather or being dragged off by some creature.
Now she looks up at the sky. Purple balloons? With the sky getting slowly darker, how were they supposed to see large purple balloons. "Ghosts aren't scary. But they better be more than just purple. They'll be invisible against the night sky if they are."
no subject
She turns to Lightning, thinking for a moment. "I'm sure we'll find them somehow." Each Pokémon seems to have surprises of their own. The dark is certainly an issue, but she's sure they'll be intelligent enough to make their presence known.
no subject
He nods. "It was very kind of him, yes. I'm sure he packed enough materials to help all of us out, too, so feel free to take some things once everything gets here."
no subject
"Do you think there will be something to cook food with in there? It's about time we find something to eat."
no subject
"What do you think we can find for food...?"
no subject
"Well, it looks like there's a few things in here we can eat. You should check your bags, too, everyone seems to get the same things when we first get here." Tonight, he'll have a good look through the handbook and see if it has any information on scrounging for food. "This will last us until tonight, at least, and then tomorrow we should have some food from the package France is sending. If you want, I can do some looking around once we set up came tonight, too. I SHOULD remember which berries are safe for humans to eat, haha." Please don't murder your travel companions, Phoenix.
no subject
"As far as I can see, there is some vegetation that should be able to be eaten by humans. I wouldn't risk, it, though. Just because they look familiar doesn't mean they won't make us sick without us cooking them in some way. When we camp, we need to make a fire first. Then we need to find a water source. Food can wait until those two things are secured."
Her training as a soldier was finally good for something in this world!
no subject
"Um... well... until then, why don't we share this?" Lightning did have trouble with Vanille and food, after all. Maybe she needs it pretty badly, too. "Um... how do we make a fire?" If Axel were here, fire would be no issue. Of course, if Axel were here, he'd probably have gone of on his own. And Naminé has no idea, really, about camping.
At least Lightning and Phoenix seem to know what they're doing.
no subject
Which may end up needing to be soon, since it's getting darker and darker by the minute. Unless Vanille could be used as a flashlight, they're not going to be able to see where they're going very shortly.
Phoenix pauses to wait for Namine once she stops to check her back, leans over her to see what she comes up with. "Isn't that your only food though, Namine?" Phoenix asks, with a little concern. "Tell you what, I still have mine in my bag, too -- we can combine them together and all of us can share."
no subject
Vanille blinks a few times before complying, lighting up a big swatch of area with her tail. She bleats happily as Lightning pats her on the head. "Good girl. Stay beside me. We need to ind a dry place to sleep." It was cold for sure, and the light snow starting did not help. As she looks around, she spots some pine like trees that are pretty close together, and a bare patch of ground that was a good size for all of them. "We could use that over there. Take most of the lower branches down, and we'd have wood for a fire. We need rocks for a fire pit, and sand or dry dirt to put it out in the morning."
She walks over and stamps around. Pine needles made for a comfortable place to sleep. There could be Pokémon in the trees, but they'd likely get scared of the fire and leave. Putting her pack down, Light now does what Light does best: destroy things. Her target? The branches. Plus, she's getting antsy with the lack of activity due to the cold. So each branch lets out a crack like lightning as she snaps them from the three, dropping them down close by another tree. "That should be enough."
