Summary: It's Rise's birthday. And with the Fourth Wall wackiness, she forgot to tell anyone. So here's a depressed Rise who now feels too awkward telling anyone.


Locked Prompt for Crocker

[Rise had found a bakery in the quieter part of Goldenrod. She was sitting at a table in the corner, surrounded by her Pokémon. Her Sylveon, Himiko, and her Umbreon, Chiisai, sat on either side of her, and a newly evolved Glaceon, Jin, laid beside Chiisai. Her ever present Meowstic, Nanako, was trying to cheer up her trainer by floating a burning candle and making it move in complicated patterns.

There was a very small smile on her face, though she still looked sad.]

[Rise's out and about town now, her usual smile very brittle. She'll nod to people she knows, but keeps walking, her Pokémon always at her side. If anyone pay attention, she's wearing a pair of black glasses, with small bands of color on the frames, a red Alice band, and a set of headphones around her neck. There's also a blue hat attached to a studded belt, buttons on the hat, and a random red rose attached to the band in her hair, and last, a black tie with barrettes attached. (Of course she's wearing clothes to match this look) These are not the usual things she wears, but items from her friends. She had wished for keepsakes from home, and they had been on her bed that morning.

At least something was going right today. Her thoughts are all over the place, so it'll be hard to get her attention.]

[Ringabel knows distress when he sees it, and while he hasn't known Rise as long as his other friends, he opts to trail her. Perhaps he can cheer her up, or at least find out what's bothering her.

After a few moments, he clears his throat and gives a small wave.]

Ah, Rise. That's a lovely look for you.

[Rise practically jumps out of her skin. She turns around and sees someone unexpected.]

R-Ringabel!

[She's so scattered in thoughts it doesn't click that she didn't call him what she usually does. Her Pokémon recognize him and each wave at him in their own ways.]

T-Thanks. I thought... I'd try something new today! Yeah!

Well, there's nothing wrong with a little variety every now and then.

[He takes a moment to greet the Pokémon with a wave.]

But are you feeling all right? I didn't mean to startle you.

V-Variety is good...

[She bit her lip a bit before shaking her head.]

No... It's been a horrible weekend!

[Oh. Well, that changes everything.]

Is there anything I can do to help you? Perhaps we could sit down for a moment...

[She may feel better if she has someone to talk to.]

Mm... maybe. I don't know where, though.

[She looks around for a while.]

Somewhere quiet?

Of course. I know just the place.

[He'll wait until she's ready, guiding her toward a quieter area of town, just shy of the entrance to the National Park. There's even a couple of benches.]

[She nods and follows him, not sure what to talk about. She's usually guarded with everyone around her, acting happy and like nothing is wrong. But... Ringabel knows better. Which makes this silence and being sad and able to show it more of a relief.

She looks up and blinks.]

The National Park?

It's one of my favorite places to visit whenever I need to collect my thoughts.

[He'll take a seat on one of the benches now, patting an empty spot. Perhaps she'll feel better if she sits down.]

[She sits down beside him and swings her legs a bit, Nanako climbing into her lap.]

... It's quiet here.

[He nods, leaning back with his arms loosely folded.]

That is what you asked, after all, and I'm hardly the sort to ignore a lady's request.

[She gives him a small smile.]

... It's my birthday today. I forgot all about it.

It's your birthday?

[He pushes away from the bench, fists clenching.]

Why didn't you say so? This calls for a celebration!

[And there's that typical Ringabel enthusiasm. So much for peace and quiet.]

[She squeaks and stares at him for a moment.]

.... i-it does? But I forgot about it!

[She totally did. She wanted to tell people, honestly.]

But there's nothing stopping you from having a delayed celebration. And if you're still not convinced, I'm more than willing to grand you your deepest desires.

[Shopping? A lavish dinner? A ridiculously sized cake? There must be something that can lift her spirits, and he's determined to succeed.]

[Here's a genuine smile. She does look more relaxed now.]

I've never actually been through the National Park. Could we walk around there for a while? I need some time to think about what would be fun to do.

[So he'll turn down the path, waiting until she's ready. No need to rush things, after all.]

[She gets up walks up beside him, and of course her little friends are right beside her.]

Nanako wants to know if the park has ice cream. Do you think they do?

Well, it is summer. It'd be a shame if there weren't at least a few vendors here and there.

[He didn't see any before, but he often comes out at night to bask in the starlight. So, propelled by a mix of curiosity and friendly ambition, he moves forward, glancing around for any passing carts.

Though there is a hint of something sweet in the air.]
