When you need to get away

Summary: The triplets and Ilya take a vacation full of sun, surf, and shopping.

[After a long, emotional moment with Riku and Sora, Kairi decided to grab the girls and take off for a week to cool off. She had managed to find a waterfront cottage at Cerulean Cape and booked it for a nice relaxing week.]

[Xion, that was a bit of an over the top reaction.]

Oh, gosh...I thought I was the only one.

[Ilya chuckles a bit, though she's still a tad embarrassed.]

I told you about my past. Is it really surprising I never learned? As for you, well, I'm mostly surprised Kairi hasn't taught you yet.

[faintwaves]

I dunno...

[She quiets herself, staring out at the water--it's calm, inviting, but Xion knows very well how dangerous it can be.]

I guess some part of me is hoping that the memories I was made from will eventually...light up, or something, and I'll magically know how to swim myself. Sora, Kairi, and Riku all came from an island, of course they'd know how to swim. I don't want to trouble them with asking.

In my experience, if you haven't gotten those sort of related memories by now, it's not going to happen. And it's especially not going to happen here. This world tends to quiet things like that.

Regardless, we both know they wouldn't consider it trouble to help you, Xion. Kairi especially. She'd probably appreciate the opportunity to have a student in something, actually.

[faintwaves]

I know she wouldn't, I just...it's hard to train yourself out of it, you know? Thinking that you're...

[She stops just short, but it's hanging in the air--"completely worthless."]

And I should know especially that it's not true, since Roxas is here, and him seeing me didn't...change anything.

[She reaches over and rests a hand on Xion's shoulder, trying to be reassuring.]

Xion, you don't have to train yourself out of that alone. What are your friends for?

... But what does Roxas have to do with it?

[faintwaves]

...You remember I said that Roxas and I couldn't exist at the same time...well, we were best friends when we were back in the Organization. The two of us and Axel, so we were a trio.

[She laces her fingers together in her lap and stares down at them.]

I already knew that when I was destroyed, all memories of me would be gone. So Roxas and Axel wouldn't remember me if we met again. But...seeing him here, seeing him look at me like a stranger still hurts. I know, too, I just have to befriend him all over again, but it won't feel the same as before. He's my best friend, and I love him so much, he just doesn't know.

[The irony of this problem hits Ilya like a ton of bricks. She'd been under the impression that she'd gotten over the loss of memories from Xion's last time here, and had done a good job of making friends with her all over again. Yet now, with Xion suffering the exact same thing, her mind immediately falls back on those old thoughts of how much she misses the Xion she first knew, and how different things are now.

She shakes her head. Commiserating might help in normal circumstances, but this is far from normal, and the last thing she needs to do is make Xion feel guilty. Still, maybe she can use these feelings...]

I know what you mean, actually. The way people come and go around here... in a way, every friendship we make here has the same problem attached.
