Who: Neku Sakuraba and Nagi Naoe

Summary: Neku asks his friend to come hang out. Wires get crossed. It's certainly not a date

[Neku was still learning how this whole 'friend' thing went- but he knew hanging out was part of it. Him and Nagi talked mostly over text and snapshots. He liked it that way honestly. But occasional meet ups were nice. Ones where he didn't have to worry about a fight as much.

And honestly he wanted to see this world's version of movies for awhile. From what he's heard they were much shorter, so multiple series were often shown together. Perfect for a casual thing. So there he stood, checking the time on his Gear occasionally as he waited for Nagi]

...Right.

[He looks back over at the other rows of seats, realizing that suddenly they're the only two left in the theater.]

We...should head out, then.

I need to hit the pokemon center. Move some things around.

[He stands, moving over towards the door, but waiting for Nagi this time instead of leading]

[Nagi stands to, his posture a lot less stiff and nervous compared to before. If anything, he actually seems pretty excited, like seeing all of those battles got him keyed up too.]

Alright. I'll be ready when you are.

[He'd prepared beforehand for...well, obvious reasons.]

[he nods, heading out- and isn't gone long. It's clear he jogged the whole way there and back.]

...same as last time? Or you wanna try a different rule set?

[Well...he considers that for a moment, thinking about the Pokemon he brought with him.]

...best two battles out of three with switching out allowed. No items. Fair?

[Last time, they were both trapped into keeping their same Pokemon out for the duration of each round, and it led to...well, a pretty heavy stalemate.

If Neku has some sort of strategy up his sleeve, then Nagi wants to see it. All of it.]

Sounds good.

[He grins]

Don't think I'm gonna play this the same way as last time.

[Nagi smiles too, more of a smirk than anything- but he doesn't reach for his pokeballs just yet.]

I would be disappointed in you if you did.

I chose my Pokemon first last time; it's only fair you do the honors now.

[A nod, and he plucks a ball off his belt, holding it up and whispering something softly to it before tossing it]

Gibson!

[A flash of light, and his Emolga appears, chirping happily as his hovers there. High leveled, obviously... but a species that has no evolution at all]

[Neku's choice in Pokemon actually surprises Nagi, and it shows. One hand had been hovering over his belt, ready to choose his own Pokemon...but now he has to stop and rethink.

His hand moves, and he picks something different from what he'd planned, tossing it out ahead of him.

A Froslass appears a few feet in front of Nagi, her arms loose at her sides as she eyes Gibson.]

Furue helped me win my final badges. She is no pushover.

[He had suspected Nagi would have an ice type: probably predicting his dragons, and after, like he said, fighting Claire. Gibson is fast: but not as fast as a fully evolved pokemon. And his Flying typing is weak to her ice attacks.

He has to slow her down.]

I'm ready to see what she can do.

[He just has to get one attack in without fainting]

Nuzzle!

[Neku doesn't know it, but he's actually taking a risk sending his Froslass out this early. He's hoping that things will go smoothly, but...well, he'll deal with things as they come.

Even though he's not fully evolved, he's still faster than Furue is, making it so she only manages to get back and brace herself before Gibson is on her, her head tilting back with displeasure when he rubs his face against hers.

And once he's pulled away, Nagi's fears are realized as she hunches over slightly, twitching.]

Icy Wind!

[Though paralyzed, Furue still manages to follow through with the attack. She won't have to get close for it to hit, and hopefully it'll put distance between them.]

[It hurt. Probably more then Nagi expected: Emolga was very good at what it did. But it's defenses were trash. Gibson cried out, shivering as icy formed on his wing membranes.]

Shake it off and go for Agility.

[Gibson chirped, shaking the ice off it's tiny body: but still shivering violently. His speed was down, but he was soon to get it right back up and then some]

[Not good...but not the worst. It's a window of opportunity to attack, if nothing else.]

Keep your distance. Ice Shard!

[The ice type lifts her hands, thick ice icicles forming in front of her before they shoot off in Gibson's direction.]

[Neku had hoped to manage another Agility- but after that attack the poor mouse pokemon can't take another. He squeals, hitting the ground- not out, but def in the red]

Shit: Electro ball!

[With Frolass' speed down from the paralyzing... it was apt to do some heavy damage]

[That much is for certain. No sooner does she release the shards before she's knocked back by the electric attack, swept almost clear back to where Nagi is standing.

She pushes off the ground with some difficulty, her gaze narrowing as she glares at Gibson.]

One more, Ice-!

[Before Nagi finishes his command the Froslass suddenly moves, letting out a noise of frustration as she starts to try to use Ice Shard again. ...which wasn't the attack Nagi was going to say at all.

It doesn't seem to matter either way, though, because she never gets the chance. Her body convulses and she falters, unable to move.

Behind her, Nagi's expression darkens, but he doesn't say anything now that his chance has been lost.]

[It's a lucky break, and Neku considers another Electro Ball to try and take her out- but no, Gibson is on the edge of fainting. He has to prepare for the next round]

Light Screen.

[Gibson, panting and in pain, waves his tail, forming the shimmering wall. Turn 1]

[Nagi watches Furue carefully, noting her posture. She's still paralyzed; that's not going to go away. But she's getting worked up in the heat of the battle, too.

He speaks up, his voice firm.]

Listen to me, Furue. Now, use Icy Wind, again!

[This time she does follow through, bringing her arms down in an arc to send a blast of icy cold air toward the Emolga.]

[The wall takes some of the damage- but it's not enough, and with a shrill squeak, Gibson goes down. Neku winces, calling him back]

You weren't kidding.

[Nagi breathes a slow sigh through his nose. That round could have been closer, sure, but Furue is already showing some of the tendencies Nagi had been trying to train out of her. Impulsivity- not waiting for a command when her temper flares. She's one of his newer Pokemon, compared to the rest of his team.

He considers his options, watching her hover there weakly. She's slow and paralyzed with her health no doubt in the yellow. After a pause he reaches down for her pokeball, suddenly returning her.]

She is strong, but impulsive.

[Nagi unclips another pokeball and tosses it out without warning, his Ninetales appearing in startling contrast compared to how small Furue was, her massive tails swaying while slightly arched over her back.]

That was just a warm up.

[Neku nods, pondering switching out too. But in the end decides to hold, considering he has:]

Alright, Volt Switch.

[Poor Gibson practically sags in relief, darting out to attack for a small hit before returning to his ball: apparently Neku likes these kinda attacks on his starters. In a flash his next pokemon appears

[What the...hell...

Since when has Neku had that thing?

Nagi keeps his confusion out of his expression for the most part. Munashi was his second Pokemon. He isn't concerned.]

Sunny Day.

[He calls out to her, and no sooner does he say that than does the sun start blaring down harshly over the field, as if the sun had just escaped from behind a wall of clouds.]

[It's clearly a water pokemon of...some sort. So Sunny Day should be a problem.

Neku doesn't look concerned. He doesn't even give it an order.

It just smiles. And.... Yawns. Or well, uses Yawn]

[Nagi grimaces. Okay, so that means he has to get in as many attacks as he can manage before Munashi succumbs to sleep. Still, he's fairly confident he'll be able to knock it out before then...and then it will be game over. Of course, Nagi is at a disadvantage here- he's unfamiliar with this Pokemon, but it does look like a water type. But even then, with high levels and boosted fire attacks, it might be enough.]

Flamethrower!

[The flames rush over the pokemon... who barely moves. Obviously it did damage but- wow it's kinda creepy how chill it is about it. Maybe it's the still up Light Screen. Maybe it's just the fact that it's a weird fat fish thing]

Amnesia!

[At least NEKU cares, upping it's S. Defense: can't risk her levels cutting through the resistance]

[Oh, no you don't.]

Flamethrower!!

[Munashi exhales another massive plume of fire right at the Quagsire, taking a few steps closer to it to see if that will have any affect. Already though, Nagi can see her beginning to droop, her movements starting to grow sluggish.

She's stuck with mostly special attacks- not good.]
