It's strange to fall asleep in your own bed and wake up in one twice the size that you know isn't your own, in an unfamiliar room.

It's perhaps even stranger to wake up in that bed to find another unknown child sleeping next to you in that bed.

And perhaps even stranger still, all the mysterious animals that maybe bear some resemblance to those in story books if you squint. Like the pink puffball. Or the two cats with scythe-like horns.

...But it's also strange, but it somehow feels like it's okay. Even if he can't explain why. So for now, he just blinks.

He freezes, almost mid-step, himself, not at all sure what to think of a strange black shape that floated. Stories of ghosts flicker through his mind, but everyone knows ghosts aren't real... right?

He, also, isn't sure what to make of it, though ghosts aren't quite on his mind yet. After all, it looks kind of like a bird, right?

"What are you?" he asks the inky thing, which kind of squeaks and floats a little backward, shyly. (Seriously, what do.)

Birds have feathers and beaks and wings though. And they don't float in midair like that.

Or carrying masks that serve as a tray for tea.

So he hangs back, hand still clutching the strange white creature's fur, watching to see whether this thing is something he should consider dangerous or not.

Yes, true, but this house has four-legged spiders and gentle scythe beasts and pink creatures that can write. It's not exactly normal, is the thing here.

Marian, who is woefully unprepared for this situation (why are they children???), gently moves the tea to a nearby table (not letting her mask go, nope, not right now especially) before grabbing a piece of paper and, after a little thought, writing, Would you like something to eat?

When in doubt, cook.

Was it asking him? He's not sure how to respond, or even whether he should respond. He glances at Feruna, then back at the strange, floating inky creature.

"I'm fine..." he says simply. It should be a safe answer, even if he really is a little hungry.

This child, of course, has picked up by this point that Sion is uncomfortable asking for, or even being offered, anything for himself.

...But the truth is, he can't remember when he last ate, himself, to be honest, and he kind of has to wonder if Sion remembers, considering that they're both here in this mysterious house. So if Sion won't ask, he will for him.

"Is it okay for us to have something?" Hopefully that will ease Sion, too, if explicit permission is granted.

For her part, Marian nods. And then adds, I can make cookies.

At this point, while still no less concerned, Dusk's initial worry has at least shifted back from the forefront of her mind. Which means she can now properly notice things, like her partner's nervous grip on her fur, the uncharacteristically meek manner...

"He's hungry," she says. "I don't think he's had much to eat."

At least, if one were to judge by his slight build, even for a kid.

Oh dear... That won't do at all. Marian doesn't write that, it's a response to Dusk, but the tea is forgotten as she flits away to the kitchen, beckoning once for the others to follow but mostly focusing on recipes that are quick, filling, a child would like them, we have the ingredients...

The boy, blinking once or twice, supposes, "...I think it wants us to follow?"

"I guess so..."

This is all so strange and he feels so uncertain about everything, though. Usually he can figure out what the 'correct' response or action is; right now, he isn't sure at all.

Johto is a strange place, isn't it.

A little unsure himself, he leads the way the direction the ink creature had floated, into the kitchen, where said ink creature presses some numbers on a mysterious box that begins to hum, before flitting over to a cupboard for something or another.

"What's that...?" he wonders aloud. What kind of box hums and glows, how, and for what purpose?

He's definitely staring quite a bit, himself.

"Magic...?" he wonders, albeit so quietly it's hardly more than a whisper. Though he's certainly never seen magic like that, even so.

"It's nothing like anything Dad's ever shown me," he responds, also in hushed tones. But that only makes him even more curious, as he creeps closer to get a better look.

Well, since the other kid is doing it... it's okay for him to follow along, right? Although still with a bit of caution, too, of course.

It is a fascinating humming light box, even as he has to pull himself a little bit up onto the counter in order to get a better look. There's even a little window in the front, through which are visible some little round breads with cheese on top that is clearly melting.

That's definitely interesting, to say the least. Though he can't fathom how it would work beyond a vague guess of maybe magic...?

If it was magic, it was different than anything his father had ever done while he was watching... "I wonder if they know how it works." They, of course, referring to the creatures.

The inky one, for her part, was now mixing what looked like melted chocolate and crispy rice together. (Kids like crispy rice sweets, right?)

He doesn't know, so he doesn't have any answer for that. Though once it becomes clear that the food box is simply going to continue doing its thing for a while, he glances around the room again. While he could identify the food in the box, what strange floating creature was doing wasn't nearly as easy to recognize.

Well, after mixing the crispy rice, the chocolate, and some sort of sticky white thing together, she seems to be rolling the mixture into little balls and putting them on a pan.

So. You know. If you're curious, you can probably ask.

Unfortunately, no matter how curious he might be, his upbringing hasn't exactly been the sort that would encourage him to ask questions. So he's watching, instead, and trying to puzzle out what on earth the white stuff is. Bits of cooked egg whites? That's the closest he can think of, at least, and even that definitely doesn't seem right...

It's a little too sticky to be egg whites, isn't it...

Eventually, the inky thing does notice Sion watching, and suddenly seems to realize something. Putting things down for a moment, it reaches for a pad of paper and writes something, before showing it.

Would you like something to drink while you wait? I can get you fresh water, soda pop, lemonade, tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.

(Rose insisted on having soda pop around. Even if her dear partner could never get used to the stuff.)

It is, which is what's so puzzling. And while flour gets sticky when wet, he can't think of any reason why someone would use it like that.

He's definitely surprised when presented with the question though, and not sure what to say. Especially since he doesn't know what half the things on the list even are...

"Ah..."

That's okay, she can wait, because obviously you just don't instantly know what you want out of the selection.

...Though if it takes more than a moment or two, she wonders if maybe you don't know what some things are, being so young? So she places the pad down for a moment before zooming over to a white box and opening it up, producing several bottles of assorted liquids.

That's fresh water, soda pop, and lemonade covered, at least.

Seeing the bottles doesn't really help him much, as he's never seen anything like them before. The only drinks he knows of that came in bottles were wines, after all.

"Um..."

So instead he fidgets a little, unsure of what to do.

...That doesn't help, either. The inky black thing looks a little bit distraught at this.

...But okay. Maybe his tastes are still the same, even though he's tiny. And though Marian isn't about to serve wine to a four year old (gosh people!!!), maybe...

Something simple. He likes simple, right?

She. Pours a glass of water and offers it to him. No calories, but water is important!

He hesitates, still uncertain. It's obviously being offered to him, but that kind of glass... It's not very fancy, but it still looks like crystal. The kind of tableware old someone wealthy could afford. Would it really be alright for him to use it?

The scythe-horned creature gives him a nudge, gently but firmly pushing him forward. So he tentatively reaches out to take it, holding the glass carefully so he doesn't risk damaging it.

"Thank you very much..." At least he remembers his manners, though.
