Yesterday was Tuesday

Who: Kyo and Tohru
Where: Route 29 (Midway point)
When: March 23rd, Wednesday afternoon
Summary: After finding out that Tohru is in Johto Kyo demanded to come get her. Tohru offered to meet him halfway more like one quarter of the way! REUNION!
Rating: PG-13; Some mild profanity may ensue if Kyo gets worked up
Log: It hadn't been easy making the trip through the tall grass alone. Tohru was even more delayed than she should have been mostly because she didn't have the heart to have Chika-chan attack Pokemon that jumped out at her (not that there had been many) and she also didn't do too well at running away, being a clutz. There was a close call at one point, and she'd given up a bit of her food to a wild Sentret (which was now secretly stalking her), yet finally the pair made it!

Tohru put her hands on her knees and let out a breath of accomplished relief before straightening up.

"Alright, Chika-chan! We did it! We made it halfway! I'll bet at this rate we'll be out the other side by the time Kyo-kun gets here!"

Chika-chan responded happily. So long as Tohru was happy then he was happy, though he didn't know anything about this Kyo-kun person she kept talking about. A friend of his trainer was a friend of his, though, for sure!

Unless, you know, that friend turned out to be kind of a jerk, because then they would feel Chika-chan's vine-whippy wrath. His trainer was the best, no one better mess with her! She didn't even try to make him stay in his ball! One wibbly-eyed look at the thing had her wrapped around it's little finger-- so to speak.

"I hope he didn't have to come far. I'd hate to think I was holding him up from something important." Tohru fretted a bit, easing to sit on the open patch of ground at the base of one of the ledges, giving her a chance to rest finally.

At the moment, there was nothing more important to Kyo than getting Tohru. Forget the fact that he was supposed to leave for Violet City today; that could wait. He couldn't leave Tohru in the wilderness alone with the vicious Rattatas and Pidgeys! Besides, he had no idea what kind of Pokémon she had and whether it was adequate at defending her or not.

After some random encounters with wild Pokémon (which he easily defeated with his much higher-leveled team), he grew nearer to where Tohru was. Tohru... Had it really been almost a month since he'd seen her? It seemed intangible somehow, like he couldn't grasp it. He had focused so much on training to keep his mind off of her cheerful smile and gentle presence. As for the others back home? He hadn't missed them much. In a way, Johto was a much better place than home.

"C'mon, Cat, keep up." Cat dragged his paws across the ground, exhausted from the several runs they had taken. Who was this girl to him, anyway? Sure, he was excited to see her, but still! He'd never seen his trainer so determined, even during their vigorous training sessions. When he spotted the brunette, though, he brightened. With a happy meow -- 'Meowth!' -- he ran up to the girl and began to rub against her legs. The weird plant-thing went ignored for the time being. Hopefully she wouldn't mind his frantic leg-rubbing like that one girl Claire!

Kyo came after his Meowth. He jogged up to where she was sitting (maybe not anymore) and tried to fight back a smile of relief and gladness. It didn't work.

"Tohru..."

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-24 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cat began to purr loudly, sounding much like a locomotive. He flicked an eye's glance at Chika-chan but held off from greeting him. The Meowth allowed the girl to pick him up and meowed happily as he watched his master approach. 'See, someone does like me~!'

"Hey, you just saw me a couple days ago, right?" He said, referring to both the video feed and when she was back at Shigure's. "Are you and your Pokémon okay?" He inspects the strange leaf-creature. "What is it, anyway?"

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-25 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
"That's what I thought, too. Then I talked to Kisa and Ritsu and some other girl from school," he replied, shrugging slightly with his hands in his pockets. Talking over video really wasn't the same, especially for the technologically challenged like Kyo and Tohru. Kyo had yet to discover the wonders of DVDs.

"You fed one of the wild Pokémon?" He brought his hand up to his face, brushing back his bangs in a semi-facepalm. "It's probably following you now. What was it?" Did she ever learn not to feed the wildlife?

"He's called a Meowth. He's level 21 now." He glanced down at the three Pokéballs at his belt. "You probably want to see my other Pokémon, huh." He didn't necessarily want to get them out, but they'd probably like Tohru. Maybe they'd be more tame around him now that Tohru was here.

He leaned over, looking into the screen. "Oh yeah. Those." Anyone traversing Route 29 at night would familiarize themselves with the flying squirrel/raccoon-looking creature. They weren't exactly rare. They were less bothersome than the abundance of Rattatas and Pidgeys, that was for sure. Speaking of those pesky Rattatas...

Kyo pulled the first ball off of his belt and pressed the center button to enlarge it. "Bet you saw a lot of these." His tone of voice is somewhat sarcastic, and there is an expression on his face that isn't exactly a happy one. A beam of translucent red light shines and a Rattata burst out with its angry cry, 'Rattata!'

Kyo braces himself for an attack, and then realizes that his Rattata might think he was called for battle. His eyes widen as he watches Rattata bound towards Tohru's Chikorita, the only Pokémon target he saw. 'Rattata!'

"Damn Rat! Get back here!"

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-25 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Upon hearing the rat's cry, Cat was displeased. He did not like Rat. Rat did not like him. Their relationship was much like Yuki and Kyo's without the secret admiration part. The Meowth's eyes narrowed as he watched the purple rat fly towards the Chikorita, and he squirmed out of Tohru's arms and leaped to the ground. 'Meowth!' The feline rammed into the side of the rat, knocking him away from the unsuspecting and inexperienced Pokémon. Damn Rat chattered angrily at his teammate, but was silenced by a swipe of his clawed paw. No way was Damn Rat going to harm this nice girl's leaf-thing!

Noticeably pissed, Kyo called the Rattata back into his ball. "Stupid rat! He always pulls this dumb crap." He clips the ball back onto his belt. "My other Pokémon are like that, too. They always attack me. I thought Rat would at least like you, but he was too stupid to notice you were even there."

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-25 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Cat huffed, glad to have finally taken care of that damn rat! Rat attacked him most of the time, but he had really laid one on him! He sure showed him what a higher-leveled cat could do! He puffed out his chest, about to strut his newfound victory, when Chika-chan nuzzled him. He bristled in surprise, but his fur flattened when he realized it was okay and not Damn Rat coming back for revenge. He flashed Chika-chan a grin and playfully bumped his head against his.

Kyo watched this idly and looked back at Tohru. He was largely unconcerned for the rat's well-being. "He's fine. Cat just knocked him out of the way and scratched him a bit. Hardly any damage done." Meowth seemed to frown at that. Man, and he thought he had taken him out! "The others won't be so violent." Hopefully. Violent towards him maybe, but not towards anyone else. Even with all their training, they still didn't listen to him. It was probably because he trained them too much and too hard and didn't give them any attention outside of that. Certainly the only one he showed some affection towards -- or at least put up with -- was Cat.

A little reluctantly, he took the second ball off his belt and summoned the Pokémon from within it. Before them flopped a Magikarp, babbling his own name like... well, like a Magikarp. "This isn't a battle, idiot. I hope you know better than that damn rat." Carp raised one fish eye to look at Kyo and thought about attacking him. He knew tackle now, after all! And someday he wouldn't be so useless and would get his revenge! What kind of trainer tried to eat their Pokémon, anyway?! But Cat quickly interfered before he could. He arched his back in a warning and hissed, 'You hear him! Don't do anything stupid! Be nice to the lady and the Chikorita, okay?! Don't embarrass him, I think he likes her!' Even though the Meowth was one of the culprits who had tried to eat him, he looked at Tohru and saw that she wasn't a bad guy. Carp was partial to girls, after all. So he just sort of flopped there.

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-25 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, did this lady just bow to him? Cat turned his head around and stared at her with wide eyes and a gaping mouth in mixed disbelief and wonder. After a second's pause, he walked back to her and meowed happily, wrapping himself around her legs.

"Yeah, I call him Cat. He doesn't deserve a real name until he evolves." He cast his Meowth a hardened look. No, Kyo doesn't appreciate his Pokémon very much, does he. Cat pretended to ignore him and answered Chika instead. 'He never smiles at anyone like that. He doesn't like a whole lot of people, but he ran all the way to here to see her! That means something, right?'

At Tohru's (typical) reaction, Kyo just rubbed his head and frowned. "He may live in the water, but he doesn't need to now. How else do you think I battle with him?" Kyo wasn't going to go swimming and battling at the same time, okay. The Magikarp seemed to appreciate her concern, however, and gave her a drawn-out 'Kaaaarp.' "Better put him back though, just in case." And so, giving them another moment to get acquainted, he calls him back. "That was Carp the Magikarp. He'll evolve into something called a Gyarados, which is supposed to be really big." No one wanted to show or describe one to him other than that, so that's all he knew.

There's only one ball left, now, and he hesitates. He pulls some rubber gloves out of his pack and begrudgingly puts them on.

"I got this next one from Kisa as an egg. He just hatched Sunday." Out of the ball comes what appears to be a light blue and yellow lion cub, glowing gently. 'Shii!' It cries. 'Shii, Shii!' Shinx hated being cooped up in that little Pokéball. He was just a baby, after all. It was dark and scary and he had to glow in order to feel somewhat safe. And it hated Kyo for putting him in there. The Shinx looked up at Tohru with big eyes, wondering who she was. She was the first person he'd seen except for Kyo.

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Cat slipped away from around Tohru's legs trotted up to the baby Shinx, nuzzling him gently. Cat had taken responsibility of the baby since Kyo didn't seem to want to. Shinx was still unsure about this, but then again, he seemed pretty unsure about everything. He was just a few days old, after all. He took a tentative step towards the girl on stubby legs. Wat do?

Kyo stood there watching them, arms crossed. He didn't dare shock Tohru... right?

nodon'tdoit.

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
The Shinx crawled nearer, stretching out his neck so that his tiny nose was nearly touching her fingertip. Kyo was tense, waiting. Cat looked on with an expression of pride in his baby. He was opening up! To Tohru, at least.

too bad she didn't! :P

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-27 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
It was a good thing Tohru didn't make any advances, because the startled Shinx would have probably sent a small jolt of electricity up her arm. When they heard the rustling, both Shock and Kyo started, bristling and taking a step back. Kyo less than the Shinx, since he was used to Pokémon materializing from the tall grass. The boy blinked while the Shinx growled quietly in his high-pitched lion cub way.

"That's probably the Sentret." He looked to Tohru. "What do you want to do with it?"

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-28 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
He gave Tohru a look of mixed wonder and exasperation. "You should probably just catch it or leave it alone. Did you battle any Pokémon on the way here?" It looked like it was time to teach her. Ha, he could do this!

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
He ran a hand through his hair, blinking. It wasn't exactly face-palm worthy, but it was close. "You have to weaken it first..." He sighed, then straightened. "Okay. Tell your Chika-whatever to attack it." Kyo checked the Pokédex quickly, scanning the Pokémon's available moves. Tackle. Not bad. Basic, but at least it wasn't Splash. "Tell it to use Tackle."

Cat and Shock walked a little closer and sat down next to each other, eager to watch the upcoming battle.

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-03-29 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
He observed the fight with his arms crossed. He felt like a regular instructor, teaching both Tohru and the Chikorita how to fight. The Shinx looked on with wide eyes, having never fought before, while the Meowth looked somewhat bored. He'd been through this countless times and could wipe that Sentret out with a single scratch. Nevertheless, he cheered Chika-chan on.

"All right, looks like another tackle or two should do it! Then you can throw the Pokéball at it. Watch out though, Sentret's going to fight back."

orz sorry about the late tag. i kind of disappeared from rp world for a while there.

[identity profile] unzodiacal.livejournal.com 2011-04-01 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, he's okay!" He yelled at Tohru, briefly annoyed by her reaction. However, Shock seemed to be just as concerned. This was what battling was like?

yeah, i think i'm just being super lazy, ff.

The redhead watched with his arms folded across his chest, unaffected by the offensive hits and damage taken by the battling Pokémon. After watching the Sentret falter, he decided to speak again. "You might wanna throw the ball now," Kyo commented.

'Looks like she'll keep on giving you food, too,' Cat observed, adding onto Chika-chan's persuasive technique.
