Spring Cleaning: the beast wakes;
Who: Suicune (
legendarybeasts), Rocket operatives and bystanders in the area
Where: Route 7
When: May 8th, 8:30PM
Summary: Rockets capture Suicune.
Rating: PG-13
Log:
[It runs. The wind carries it, fog is its mantle, and the ground weeps dew at its passing. It has known only endless sleep for so long, and now, it has awakened to the scream of the grass and the clouds, knowing in its heart that the world's Order is not being kept. The Old One sleeps too, too deep, not watching, and then they all fell after it.
But then it heard whispers, up in its cold mountain hideaway where pure crystal water flows in trickling, shimmering rivulets. The water whispered to it, wake up wake up, I am hurt, and it did. Its brothers sleep still, their consciousness tickling at the back of its mind like a reassurance. It does not know what awaits, only that it must run, and seek, and destroy.]

[Ah, but this is a different sort of battle entirely, and if they're going to defeat this thing, teamwork would be the best option. He smirks at that and nods to Alakazam, sending him back into the fray.]
Crobat, attempt to confuse it.
[The bat flaps his wings and lets out a cry before flying off at full speed. Archer motions for the Raichu to return and gives it different orders as well.]
Thunder Wave; attempt to paralyze it.
[With that settled, the Raichu runs off again, momentarily leaving Archer unprotected. Thankfully his Honchkrow takes notice of that and flies back in just in time to intercept an Ice Beam with Protect. She doesn't seem very pleased with her trainer for leaving himself unguarded for even a moment. Think before you act, man!]
I'm fine, Lucena. Thank you.
[He'll give her plenty of Pop-tarts when they get back to the base.]

Idiot.
[The word is muttered under his breath; he doesn't bother with verbal speech again after that, instead focusing his attention on Archer's Alakazam. He's...never exactly tried communicating with Archer's Pokémon before; it's worth a shot now, however, given that his voice doesn't carry very well - it's far too light to get any volume when he shouts - and that's under normal circumstances. There's no way he'll be heard over everything else.]
Alekhine. Kindly inform your trainer that he should be less reckless, and continue to aim straight attacks at it. I don't know how long this thing will stay to fight; it's possible it may eventually attempt to evade us. Leave the stats to me; focus on attack.

In response to the attacks, it drops its head and heaves out a Hydro Pump, followed closely by an Aurora Beam to freeze the water and make the Steelix, and its human, fall. In the wake of that, it emits a powerful Extrasensory wave, pushing its Crobat and Raichu assailants back.
And then it moves, surging not unlike a wave, heaving itself into Archer's space after determining him as the weak link. Its proud fangs are bared and ready to bite.]

He jumps down, and he can't say that he doesn't enjoy the fall.
Somewhere in the back of his mind, he registers that the landing hurts his spine in ways that his spine probably shouldn't be hurting; his adrenaline is too high for him to care. He's keeping his gaze on his adversary for now - because that's what this is, an adversary, and it's been far too long since he's had a fight like this, since he's had a battle this good - and somewhere in there he knows that this may end badly, that that's his...well, his Archer, he isn't entirely sure what to call him other than that; at the same time, he knows better than to insult Archer by protecting him directly. Archer can take care of himself. He has Lucena there, he can take care of himself.
Kimblee's attention, then, is given to...whatever that thing just did; ice everywhere, yes, and that was horrible and inconvenient and unfair, but before that...water? He's raised enough water-types to recognize Hydro Pump; Carinthia in particular had been so proud of himself for learning that...
It's possibly dual-typed, then. Let's see, if this manages to connect - ]
Dorian. [The command is given silently, using Kenya as a conduit; better that he not alert this thing to what he's trying to do.] Energy Ball.
[It won't be nearly as powerful as it could be, given the Ninetales' type and...well, the fact that this is Dorian we're talking about, but it's worth a shot.]
no subject
[Extrasensory hits hard; Tabiya withstands the hit with some energy to spare, but Crobat is nearly taken out due to its type weakness. Archer frowns, sending Alekhine the message for both Pokémon to return to heal them.]
[That's about when Suicune decides now would be an excellent time to remove him from battle. Archer takes a half step back, raising his left arm as if to shield himself from the attack while Lucena throws Protect up to block it. Archer doesn't need Alekhine to translate her high-pitched shriek - he knows he's in trouble. She can't recover quickly enough to use Protect again and there's nothing stopping the Suicune now. That said, he does notice that Nagara is down - where the hell is Kimblee?]
[Archer has been on the battlefield a grand total of once before today. He made a mistake in that battle that got seven thousand men killed. He recognizes his actions on that day were wrong and he could have done something differently to prevent their deaths, but given the opportunity, he wouldn't have done anything differently.]
[Today is sort of like that. Except this time there's no armless man throwing his most important person off a roof.]
[It slips his mind that death in Johto isn't permanent. It doesn't occur to him that Kimblee is notoriously resilient and has (probably) survived worse than a fall from that height. He doesn't even stop to consider that what he's about to do could possibly be the stupidest thing he's ever done, short of shielding himself from a massive array.]
Return, all of you!
[Unlike Kimblee, Archer's voice carries very well. He's prone to shrieking about... well, everything to be perfectly blunt. His Pokémon all make their way back at once - Alekhine throws up a Protect as soon as he arrives to block any further attempts at attacking while Lucena rests for a moment. The other four await their orders. Archer uses Alekhine to relay his messages, but from the urgency of it, his Pokémon can tell he wasn't prepared for this to happen. ...Whatever "this" is.]
[Tabiya, Thunder. Axis, Hyper Beam. Maróczy, Sucker Punch. Cross Poison, Crobat. Lucena, Dark Pulse. And Alekhine--]
[That's when Dorian and the Energy Ball attack are noticed. What the hell is Kimblee doing? Dorian's a Fire-type and this thing's an Ice-type, right? So why would he be switching to a Grass-type move...?]
[...Kimblee knows his type advantages just as well as Archer does. He's certain of that. Maybe Kimblee saw something that Archer hadn't.]
[Alekhine, Energy Ball. Support Dorian! Go!]
[That leaves his six most powerful Pokémon all launching their most powerful attacks directly at Suicune. That leaves Archer directly open for a counter attack. At this point, he couldn't care less.]
[He won't let this Kimblee die.]

[Just as quickly it has righted itself, and its coat flashes once, twice, glistening like a crystal shard. It summons up a powerful Tailwind that roars through Route 7 as if it were a Whirlwind. Weaker pokemon might balk at it, but Suicune recognizes its kin and revels in it.]
[It bows its head and its eyes flash in brief, deep concentration. Its mind settles; it must think, strategize. In seven hundred years it has never known such fierce fury.]
[Suicune tosses its head and roars, not a cry to send an enemy fleeing, but a challenge, a sound that fills the area and makes the trees quake. The sheer energy that emanates from it is enough to flatten the grass.]
[LET THEM COME! LET THEM BE DESTROYED!]
[Were it a normal pokemon, in possession of a normal physiology and reactions, its hackles would be raised. But as it is, its opponents can largely notice the unnatural grace of its movement, the way its body seems to progress without the interference of muscle, as if it was a mere spirit in a cage of flesh.]
[This time, it does not move. Instead, the air does, and a Blizzard rips through the road like a freight train, harried by the Tailwind and screaming through the fog.]

His breathing is heavy as he forces himself back to his feet; the drop from before is taking its toll on him. Here, he can't get away with nearly as much as he did back in Amestris. His Arcanine, Anthony, seems aware of his pain, falling back to his side protectively; Anthony's bristling badly, his hackles raised, deep guttural growling escaping his body, and they only deepen as Kimblee recalls Abdiel to her Pokéball. Possible dual-type on that Suicune or not - and it had reacted as Kimblee had guessed it might, it's at least part Water-type - Abdiel has nothing advantageous right now, and she's weak against all the ice being slung around.
He recalls Nagara as well for the time being; he'll have to wait until he can heal her properly to bring her out again. While he works, he can hear the attacks hitting; once he's sure that Alekhine has done what he was ordered to, he focuses once again on that Alakazam.
Kimblee can't command; he's never been a very strong leader on the battlefield, instead focusing more on his own survival than the well-being of his troops, and the time he's spent in prison has destroyed any capacity he may have had to command properly - his decision-making skills are all but destroyed, his thoughts shifting into a mode more inclined toward taking orders than issuing them in fights.
But this is survival. And survival has always been something that Kimblee is very, very good at.]
Alekhine - get Lucena back. Do you understand? This thing is attacking your trainer; defend him properly!
Tell Archer to calm himself; we can do this. Panicking will get us nowhere.
[And then there's that roar, rising up and drowning out Anthony's growls; the ferocity of it makes Kimblee freeze, his fingers tightening sharply in Anthony's fur where he's reached down in an attempt to calm the Arcanine down. His eyes are wide when the sound reaches him, resounding through his body; he's shaking badly. There's power in that sound; the force of sheer will rising to meet them on the battlefield. It's enough to shake him to the core; he trembles before its power, though it isn't through fear or the possible injuries he's taken.
His gaze is alive; that was beautiful.
He doesn't have time to dwell on it, however, before that Blizzard starts up, tearing down the length of their battlefield. He doesn't have enough time to react properly; his body is resisting movement badly - he can't be sure how badly he's injured himself, and the Blizzard is covering too much area for him to be able to avoid it properly. He has Anthony, who doesn't know Protect, at his side, and three other Pokémon at the ready, none of whom are exactly equipped to save him right now. And yet there's no fear in him.
He hasn't felt this alive since Ishval.]
Heat Wave!
[Thankfully, Anthony seems to understand what it is that Kimblee is trying to do; the Fire attack is aimed directly into the Blizzard itself, the superheated air blasting into the ice, heavy steam rising from the colliding attacks.
It isn't nearly enough to stop the attack entirely, and Kimblee is immediately grateful for the armor, and for the mask protecting his face. His skin prickles sharply, uncomfortable beneath the heat searing through the armor; he can't see through the clouds of steam and snow billowing around him, and he finds himself tensing up sharply, involuntarily.
Smoke in our eyes again? How artless. It won't work.
Where is the Stone...?
Kimblee - he's set something up downwind, it...!
The Heat Wave doesn't withstand the entirety of that Blizzard; the steam eventually gives way to massive amounts of cold that seems to rip through his system. But he holds his ground.
They have this. It isn't like last time; they have this.]

[He doesn't realize that both Alekhine and Lucena have returned to his side - Lucena's claws are digging into his shoulders - she's terrified - and he isn't aware of it. He's lost in his own little world now. As far as he's concerned this thing has killed Kimblee. He couldn't survive a fall from that height. He couldn't.]
[And then the Blizzard attack starts. Archer shivers instinctively and once again moves to defend himself. He's aware that his Pokémon are attacking Suicune; there's no way they can get back in time to protect him--]
[Two Protect attacks are thrown up at the same time to block the incoming ice. Archer can't help but sigh in relief. He could have died. There's no reason to let his guard down - his Pokémon reacted better than he did. ...No, that's not possible. They don't disobey his orders. There's no reason for them to--]
[Steam rises from a little further off and Archer finally realizes that Alekhine has been trying to talk to him this entire time. The Alakazam can't seem to get his thoughts focused enough to communicate what the hell just happened, but one thing stands out: Kimblee.]
[He's alive? Archer isn't sure what to do with the feeling of relief. It's better not to get distracted; he has to focus.]
Crobat! Protect Kimblee!
[He returns Porygon-Z - that Blizzard attack knocked it out and he doesn't have time to heal it. That leaves the Raichu, whom he calls back. Alekhine is better suited to fight this thing. He heals the Raichu and keeps it nearby; he's not going to risk getting himself killed now. That wouldn't be very beneficial would it?]

[Its options are twofold; attack one human, or the other. When this assault first began it had wasted its time attacking their soldiers, its own brethren, but it knew better now. The pokemon would do it no harm if their generals were removed from battle. Attacking the Steelix-rider seemed to yield the best results, but he is in possession of the sharper, quicker mind and it doubts its ability to sustain an assault on his person. The other one is better-defended, but less of a nuisance. It decides to cut its losses, having won some time with the Blizzard.]
[Still cloaked in snow, Suicune flickers in an out, seeming multiples of itself appearing in the air; a classic Double Team trick. Defended now by both its Mirror Coat and its raised evasiveness, it launches itself for Archer again. Gunning to take him out, Suicune lets its Ice Beam precede it, trying to take out the Raichu before moving in on Archer with Ice Fang.]

He's pulled out Nagara's Pokéball again; she moves faster than he does normally, simply by merit of covering more ground - and what with the way his body is resisting movement, he's not going to accomplish anything physically, it leaves him as far too open a target. He pauses, then slots Nagara's ball back into position. Switches to Abdiel's. After all, if it's speed he wants...
The Pokédex says that Yanmega is easily strong enough to carry a human adult; Kimblee's never tried it, but the thought exhilerates him. Unfortunately, it doesn't do quite the same for Abdiel, who is...er, very confused as to why her trainer is suddenly jumping on her back, crouching in what has to be an incredibly uncomfortable position and holding on to one of her dorsal spikes like he fully intends to take her into battle like the world's most obnoxiously buzzing steed, but she maintains her general equilibrium and if her trainer wants to play this incredibly strange new game with her, then she seems up to the task.
He notices Crobat and nods acknowledgement to it, pausing just long enough to gesture, indicate that it should follow him, before Abdiel takes off, nearly managing to accidentally throw Kimblee through sheer speed alone. He lets out a bit of an undignified yelp but, to his credit, manages to keep his balance.
He can see Suicune much more clearly now, the lingering effects of the Double Team still flickering; it looks to be going after Archer again. Kimblee smiles a bit at that, though it isn't a nice expression at all; were he in this creature's position, he would be doing the exact same thing.]
You'll make a fine soldier for us, won't you - Kenya! Use Swift on it, try to take it off-course.
[Hopefully Suicune's guard will be down a bit, what with the supposed protection of Double Team up; hopefully it won't be figuring for attacks that don't miss.
Of course, Kimblee is a bit overconfident himself in ordering that attack; once it hits that Mirror Coat, the rebound will hurt, far more than anything Kimblee's Starmie is managing to accomplish against Suicune. At the same time, he can't trust Archer to fully defend himself right now - causing some damage and hopefully deterring it from utilizing the full force of that Ice Fang is all he can really do right now until he can physically be in the same location Archer is; the colonel has been making entirely too many mistakes on this battlefield.
Of course, if Archer surprises him by managing to intercept Suicune himself, he'll be pleased; if all else fails, hopefully he won't try to block a hit like that. Admittedly, there's not much Archer can do right now, but really, blocking is about the dumbest thing out of all possible dumb things that he can actually manage.
At the very least go out in a blaze of glory and punch the legendary in the face?]

[Anyway, Archer notices movement from further away - his Crobat. Good, Kimblee is moving around; he's fine for the time being. With Crobat to use Protect, Kimblee won't be in any real danger. That leaves the Suicune, who seems to have decided that going after Archer is the best course of action. Honestly, he's a bit surprised the creature is capable of attacking humans. It's taken him quite some time to train his into it. But this one is different, isn't it?]
Lucena, Haze!
[He usually doesn't resort to calling out attack names, but this strategy is going to require his Pokémon to react quickly. Direct commands are easier for them to follow. The Honchkrow spreads her wings wide, unleashing a thick fog that covers the area. Alekhine immediately enters the fog, Teleporting Archer out of the way before Suicune's attacks can connect. They land several feet away and Archer's next command is aimed at the Raichu.]
Wait for it... Now! Tabiya, Volt Tackle!
[The Raichu crouches low to the ground, cheeks sparking as he waits for the command. Suicune is close - that Ice Fang attack just barely misses the Electric-type Pokémon - and then at the command, Tabiya launches himself at Suicune in a ball of thunder. Hopefully with the proximity it will be capable of hitting.]
[That leaves the Houndoom, who finally comes running over to Archer. He's badly weakened and honestly, Archer should heal him first. But that would render the next move useless.]
Reversal!
[Maróczy rushes at Suicune as well, directly after Tabiya's electrical currents die down.]
no subject
[The timing of events is almost perfect, perhaps by accident, Suicune can't tell: Kenya's attack rebounds off Mirror Coat, but the hiss of impact still throws the vast pokemon off-course enough to send it careening into the Murkrow's Haze.]
[Encased in dark gas, Suicune is forced to slow, its teeth snapping shut just shy of where Archer should be--only to suddenly receive a full-on Volt Tackle to the face.]
[Fucking ow.]
[Stunned, Suicune wobbles for a moment, the titan shaken. Its front legs give way as its vision swims, but Maroczy doesn't give it time to rest before his Reversal hits it hard in the flank. Screaming, Suicune is cast aside, rolling in the snowy grass.]
[Its ribs heaving, it rights itself on shaky legs, the last of its Double Team fading away. Feeling its opponents closing in on it, but unable to see through the Hazy, Suicune howls, summoning up a Gust to clear the air and hopefully knock any more incoming assailants to the ground.]
1/2
Archer
what he could actually see of that was legitimately awesome, what with the haze and the electricity flying everywhere and the...everything
Congratulations; you may have redeemed yourself a bit!
...still going to yell at you later tho :|]

He's learned his lesson from last time, though; beautiful noises like that are often followed by equally beautiful amounts of damage. He signals for Abdiel to bank sharply, move away from the creature; she's still clipped rather hard by it, making one of those horrendous noises that Yanmega are noted for as she drops down to the ground, jarring Kimblee off rather hard. He drops as well, planting one knee and both hands rather hard on the ground.
Hearing that sound from Abdiel from so close makes him realize exactly why the Pokédex had speculated that the noises these things make have the potential to inflict internal injuries on their adversaries in battle. He sincerely doubts she's done any such thing, to him or Suicune or otherwise, but that noise was terrible.
That said, however, the Gust has cleared the air rather well; between that and Alekhine's teleporting, Kimblee is rather closer to Archer than he'd thought initially. The ground between them is easily covered; he recalls Kenya as he approaches. As he'd thought, the Mirror Coat had knocked her right out; at least Abdiel is back up and in the air, dazed and none too happy about it but still battle-capable.]
Air Slash, Abdiel.
[The order is curt, sharp, issued in the sort of tone that Abdiel knows better than to balk at, regardless of how displeased she is right now. He knows he should be focusing on the battle, and it isn't entirely truthful to say that he's not - at the same time, his attention is more closely focused on his commanding officer.]
Archer.
[The name is more of an acknowledgement, both of Archer's presence and Kimblee's current willingness to take orders; it doesn't leave much room for conversation or arguing. Let's do this thing, shall we?]
no subject
[There's some kind of horrid shriek from Abdiel and Archer winces - it's closer than he thought it would be. Alekhine must have teleported them closer to Kimblee. Archer nods to Kimblee as he approaches.]
Kimblee.
[There's a distinctive note of relief in his voice, but Archer ignores it for now. They're in the middle of something much more important - Kimblee had better not call him out on that. He returns Maróczy; the Gust attack was more than the Houndoom could take. He's down to four, but he's not worried. Lucena is still flying overhead, Crobat is battered but still conscious, Alekhine is fine, and Tabiya is... Oh goddammit, where did that Raichu go?]
[Tabiya comes rushing back, bouncing from one foot to the other. From the nearly demonic expression, it's quite clear that he's having fun.]
Good work. Switch to Thunderbolt - look out for Lucena and Abdiel.
[Tabiya darts off immediately. Crobat returns to rest wearily on Archer's shoulders and he dismisses Alekhine.]
Energy Ball. Focus on staying alive rather than attacking. Teleport any weakened Pokémon out of the way.
[That leaves Lucena who swoops higher up in the sky. Archer's orders are relayed to her through Alekhine - Sky Attack. It's Lucena's most powerful move, and if that connects it will hopefully do a lot of damage.]
What Pokémon do you have left? We're almost there.
[That's directed at Kimblee, of course. They're so close. If they can capture this Pokémon and hand it over to Team Rocket then they'll certainly get a promotion.]
[...Of course, that's implying that they'd part with the Pokémon.]

Dorian is fine. Anthony has taken only minor damage, but Abdiel took that harder than I thought she would due to connecting with the ground; she's injured, as is Nagara. Kenya has fainted, and I have Carlisle in reserve.
[So five that can battle, however he only has three that really should, two of which are fire-types and one that's part ground.
...yeah.]
no subject
[...In other words, Kimblee's Pokémon are weak against Water. Great.]
You don't have any Revives?
[Don't bother answering that, Archer has a spare one. He passes that over without a word and pulls another one from his bag; Axis could prove very useful if he can manage to hit with Zap Canon.]
[Archer trains with Kimblee on a daily basis. He has a decent idea of what moves Kimblee's Pokémon know. Dorian is better suited to this battle since Suicune seems content to keep spamming Special Attacks. Dorian also knows Energy Ball, so there's that...]
Get Dorian out. He shouldn't be taken out very easily and he can at least help land a few hits.
[Archer uses the Revive on Axis and the Porygon-Z beeps in recognition.]
Stay here; can you manage to Lock-On to Suicune?
[The Pokémon nods and focuses intently on the legendary. If he can time it just right, Archer can land several hits in succession.]
Zap Canon - right after Lucena attacks!

Dorian's around there somewhere; he's a smart thing, he's probably found a vantage point to keep himself safe, if for no better reason than battling and getting wailed on is filthy.]
Anthony. Keep an eye on how this thing responds to what's being sent out; if it tries to flee, I want you to cut it off. Flamethrower in its path; don't try to hit it, it will likely evade. Just cut it off.
Dorian, try to connect with Energy Ball once it's stalled.
