Who: John Egbert and Rose Lalonde (And introducing the new friend: Dave Strider)

Summary: Rose wakes up from her spontaneous coma (canon update) and John takes her on a highly romantic date in a Dragonair gondola. Be jelly.

Since this wasn't the first time it had happened and, overall, it was hardly a rare occurrence in this world, John hadn't been too terribly worried when Rose passed out the previous Sunday. He knew she'd be back up again in a week or so, though that still hadn't prevented him from spending more time inside the room than out. After all, what if she woke up early?

He was pretty sure that was a thing that could happen, so better safe than sorry!

But there was one thing that he did have to leave the room for that he just couldn't avoid and that was work. But it was honestly a good thing he had, because if he had called out? He probably wouldn't have been able to concoct the date plan he was currently waiting to put into motion. It just needed one last thing, and that was a conscious Rose.

Okay, well technically a conscious John as well. Because at around 8 in the morning, he was just as unconscious as Rose, lying next to her in the bed with an arm over her and Michael J. the Zorua nestled between them. Rose's face is covered in a variety of marker doodles, the most prominent being a proclamation of "i love butts." scrawled across her forehead. Though there's also some kitty whiskers and more than likely at least one penis because apparently Dave wanted to play too. Seems the boys got a little bored while Rose was unconscious.

Aaaa lazy Sundays. Aren't they great?

While John hasn't spent nearly as much time without Rose, he would have to agree with that statement. She's just a lot more fun when she's conscious. Provided she's not simultaneously mortifying him and scarring her brother for life.

Her bath may not have been as long as she wanted, but it was long enough for John to finish making a decently sized stack of French toast. There's enough for probably three people already done and there's still more in the pan yet to come. He's still humming away and not really paying attention to anything other than the sounds and smells of Toast sizzling in a pan. Hmm...does he feel like making bacon or something to go with this? Hmm hmm hmmmm...

Oh please John. You're fine. And he's fine too. Gosh you boys are such babies.

Those smells eventually lead her right into the kitchen, fluffy robe wrapped comfortably around her frame. Was that breakfast? It sure as hell smells like breakfast. It must be breakfast oh look it is!

John, you don't mind if she sneaks up behind you and rests her chin on your shoulder, do you?

No it was traumatizing. You don't understand, Rose. Utterly traumatizing, they may never recover from this.

But of course it's breakfast and of course he doesn't mind. When does he ever mind Rose being affectionate with him? Never. That's when. Though he does take a moment to steal a quick kiss from her cheek after she does so.

"You smell infinitely better now. Hope you're hungry."

"Not nearly as wonderful as these smell. And I am starving." She's just going to watch him cook, petting Guile's head when she presses it against her leg.

"You can go ahead and grab some, you know. I am just making some for everybody else as long as I'm here." Since, you know, the others will probably just eat junk food or crappy microwave burritos if he doesn't.

"I'll wait for you." It's more fun to eat with another person, John. "However, I'll be glad to pull out the fixings."

Which include butter, peanut butter, syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, strawberry syrup, raspberry syrup, actual strawberries and raspberries...chocolate chips.....

Holy shit when did they even get all that stuff? More importantly, why? Seriously, Rose this is kind of ridiculous to do when they aren't staying at the Other House.

"...for french toast?"

Seriously it's...french toast, Rose. You won't even be able to taste it under all that.

"...of course." Have you seen her diet, John? Does this really surprise you?

"Are you even going to be able to taste the french toast under all that?"

Yes and no, really. If he had made pancakes or waffles, no. But French toast is apparently a different story.

"Of course I will." It's not like she's just going to PILE IT ON. God.

"Alright, if you say so." That still seems like an absolute cacophony of flavors to him, but to each his own he supposes. He flips a few more pieces of done toast onto the pile.

"There, that should be enough for everybody, I think. If they can't get in here fast enough though, that's their problem not mine!"

He'll send out texts for the hounds to come once he and Rose are done eating.

And she moves to take two pieces off the pile, wanting to make sure they are still hot. Why?

So she can get some of those chocolate chips on as soon as possible because look at those melty, gooey chips after a few moments. Mmmm.

John chuckles and helps himself to two pieces as well, though he doesn't particularly care how long they've been sitting there. There's probably only a couple minutes difference between batches, and it's not like his toppings will need to be melted.

Because...it's just syrup. Wow, boring, huh? Though, granted, it is quite a lot of syrup. He moves towards the table, Casey following along behind him eagerly. After setting his plate down, he moves back to grab another piece off the pile and wrap it in a napkin for Casey, handing it to her and patting her head.

"There you go."

The Lopunny squeaks in delight and quickly begins nibbling at the toast. Om nom nom nom! See, this is why she didn't need a plate. Guile, on the other hand, gets a plate set down in front of her, a single piece of toast in the center of it. "Aaaand there you go too!"

Guile sneaks forward to nuzzle his hand before he can fully pull it back, and then dips her head down to begin lapping and nibbling at the toast. FRENCH TOAST. It's so good.

Rose, meanwhile, has moved on. After the chocolate chips are melted, she sliced strawberries and placed each slice on top of them, until the pieces of toast are both covered. On top of those came powdered sugar and then raspberries. And theeeeeennnnn one pieces is put on top of the other. After that?

A dollop of whipped cream in the center with a drizzle of strawberry syrup on that.

There. Perfect.

Depending on how long it took her to finish her concoction, it's possible that John beat her to the table. Though, he does at least wait for her to join him before so much as touching his fork.

"Hehehe, want some toast to go with your toppings there, sweetheart?"

Well how kind of him. She certainly appreciates it, but gives him a cheeky grin when he comments.

"I think I have the perfect amount of everything on here, thank you."

"Really? You don't think you need a little more whipped cream?"

Well now that she's joined him, he's just going to start cutting his toast into pieces.

She will follow suit, snorting. "It probably could, honestly, but I think this is fine for now."

"Well as long as you'r--oof!" There's a thud followed by loud yipping as Michael J comes hurtling out of the bedroom and straight into John's leg. He smells toast why didn't he get any toast omh dad you suck. Toast. NOOOWWWWWW.

"Jesus, Michael J. hold on a second, will you? I thought you went back to sleep..." With a sigh, John gets out of his chair and fixes a plate of toast for the Zorua just as he had for Guile. He then moves back to his seat, but before sitting down, addresses the room at large in a slightly overdramatic manner. "Is everybody good? Can John eat his toast now? Is that a thing he can do? Speak now or forever hold your fuck it I'm eating this toast." And with that, he plunks himself down in his chair and immediately takes a bite of toast before any other distractions can come along.

"So how was it back home? Anything new and exciting?"

Rose can't help but laugh as she watches the spectacle. Here Michael, she's just going to sneakily toss a raspberry onto your plate. Give that a try.

"Not...really. Just lots of time spent trying to entertain ourselves for the first year of our trip. We passed through some dream bubbles but..."

The attempt would be considerably less sneaky, and John might not have noticed it had Michael J. not started yapping excitedly at the offering of fruit. Omgomgomgomgomg he doesn't know what this is but it looks delicious and he is going to eat it in one bite. Oh hey, guess what? It is delicious! Rose, I hope you are ready to have him come love on you once he's done eating his breakfast.

"Buuutttt...? Come on, you can't just cut it off there and leave me hanging."

"But it was still pretty boring. We mostly just met with dead trolls along the way."

Like she will deny him of love. She spoils him just as much as she does any other Pokemon at this point.

"I hope you mean you met with their ghosts and not their corpses or something. Because I can only imagining sort of riveting conversations you must have had in the latter case."

Oh well good. Because he's finished his toast and is now attempting to get into Rose's lap. However, he is too small. So he's just kind of pawing at her and whining.

Pushing back from the table a little, she bends down to pick the little Zorua up, setting him in her lap. "Their ghosts, of course."

He wags his tail excitedly and...promptly attempts to sneak a raspberry off of Rose's plate. Look at what happens when you spoil him, Rose. Look at what happens.

"And a bunch of dead ghost-trolls had absolutely nothing interesting to say? I find that hard to believe."
