HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

~

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[Annnd down goes Flare, before Riku even gets a chance to recall him. He'll make a mental note to heal him later if he gets outta this in one piece, but for now, it's time to pick the next 'mon.

So, poison, huh? Well, scooping up another Pokéball, Riku sends out his trusty Nidoking who looks up at the big ol' bat and... moans a little.]

So would you drown the whole planet if you had to? I don't know if you've noticed, but humans don't have gills.

[Okay, so... giant bat has wings. Wings means flying. How about a Sheer Force Ice Beam?]

Look, all we want-

[Never mind. Ow. That poor Crobat. Archie's just going to stop talking for a second and figure out what to do here.]

Confuse Ray!

[There, that should hopefully keep any more of those from happening. That was pretty cold, Riku.]

All we want is to make the world a better place for Pokemon. So there's less land. Would that really be so bad?
islandshore: (yeah right)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[RNG says the next attack fails! Curse you and your confusion. In his dizzied state, Slacker's gonna continue flailing around and firing off attacks, hitting himself a little in the process.

There's not a whole lot Riku can do besides switching, but that runs the risk of poisoning or more confusion, so he'll just have to cross his fingers and hope that Slacker can pull through.

At the same time, Archie's comment makes him sneer.]

Just one problem. You're ignoring fire types, ground types, rock types, flying types... Basically any types that don't take well to water. Not to mention humans.

Given time, they'll probably adapt.

[That's not really a good answer, but it's a better answer than the source material gave, so it'll have to do for now.]

Air Slash!

[Let's just try and keep that Nidoking stunned and hopefully flinching as well.]
islandshore: (yeah right)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Oof! Slacker whimpers at the sudden blade of air. His confusion's set to last for two more attacks, but this time he manages to pull through for another beam. If Crobat shoots for yet another Air Slash, Slacker will flinch.

Curse you and your flinchfusion tactics, Archie! You devilish fiend.

Riku doubts he'll be able to reason with this guy, so he'll opt for another direction.]

And what about those guys in red?

[Crobat's already been hit by one beam and since it's not a Mega and thus not prone to whatever happened in the shark vs. dragon insanity a few moments ago, it's pretty bad off. Sort of in that weird orange part of the health bar between yellow and red.

Still, that's not enough to deter Archie from having it continue to battle.]

That's Team Magma! Our sworn enemy! Air Cutter!

[He's varying things up a little here. Golbat might not be able to shoot ice lasers, but it can flap its wings and send razor sharp air currents at that Nidoking. Let's see how that goes. ]
islandshore: (... let's not go there)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Crobat's speed definitely gives it an edge. Slacker's legs are stubby, and between the confusion and the sudden air currents, he's left shielding his face and running around in circles. It's... kinda silly, actually.

But Riku doesn't really have the patience to deal with his starter running like a coward, so he whistles, trying to get his attention.

The good news for Archie is that his next attack fails due to confusion. In fact, he might've just blasted his trainer's face with some of that ice, sending Riku skidding backwards.

Today just isn't his day.]

Fwahahaha! So not only did those flames get put out, but now your Pokemon's giving you the cold shoulder.

[On some level, he realizes that's terrible, but on pretty much all other levels, it's hilarious.]

Now then, Air Slash!

[Why mess with a good strategy? These attacks seem to be working pretty well, so there's still no real reason to change things up.]
islandshore: (GASPETH)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Slacker's still not fast enough to dodge the air slash, but now that he's snapped out of his confusion, he's firing off... a Thunderbolt.

And then promptly getting smacked in the face by that Air Slash anyway and flinching.

All the while, Riku's got a hand hovering over another Pokéball, just in case.

He's also shivering, because, y'know. Getting blasted with Ice Beams kinda sucks.]

[After that shocking display, Crobat's done for. It's okay though because next up from Archie is Walrein. Which is weak against Thunderbolts too, but...]

Blizzard!

[See, Riku, he can do the ice thing too.]
islandshore: (determined)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's super effective! The ice knocks Slacker clear off his feet and... knocks him unconscious, too! Eye twitching, Riku reaches for another ball, annnd--

FLASH! Out pops his Lucario, eying that Walrein very closely.]

Ace, you think you can take this?

Did you really have to ask?

[She brings her front paws together, cracking her knuckles, and takes a deep breath, doing a little Calm Mind.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Having second thoughts about getting involved?

[He's not sure what Lucario's prepping for, but he really doesn't want to be on the receiving end of it, so...]

Sheer Cold!

[Maybe they should've been Team Frost instead what with the wave of what is apparently absolute zero cold heading towards Lucario. And how that works I have no idea, thanks Gen IV and V for that description.]
islandshore: (... let's not go there)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-30 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. I'm just getting started.

[Okay, that ice does not look good. The good thing about being a Lucario, though, is that unlike Slacker, she's agile and Sheer Cold's accuracy is kinda finicky. Eyes narrowed, Ace dashes to the side, hurling a ball of Aura Sphere as she skids to a stop.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's super effective! Walrein staggers back from that hit. And Archie is not happy about that.]

Then I'll have to put a stop to that for Team Aqua! Blizzard!
islandshore: (Default)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-31 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
[A blizzard is.... kinda tough to dodge. The type resistance lets her deal with it better than Slacker, though she does stagger a little.

Then, with a growl, Ace charges forward, attempting to land a Drain Punch.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Ow. Walrein's going to continue to be on shaky feet here. Another solid hit like that and it's done for.]

I don't have time for this. Walrein! Sheer Cold!

[Lucario, go away please.]

{OOC: Are you okay with Kyogre wrapping things up in a couple turns?}
islandshore: (GASPETH)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-10-31 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Ace grits her teeth, trying to hurl another Aura Sphere, but this time, it seems her speed just isn't enough. The ice hits her full force, and she lets out a cry of:]

That was just cheap--

[And now she's a Lucariocicle, forcing Riku to once again make a switch... to his Blastoise.]

[ooc: Absolutely! :) I figured it was coming sooner or later.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Finally, that stupid move hits. One would think a wave of absolute zero cold would have better than a 30% success rate by default, but apparently not.]

Walrein! Body Slam!

[Not like he has too many choices with how to deal with Blastoise. They're Team Aqua, not Team Thunder.]

{OOC: Okay, then I figure Riku can KO Walrein if you want and then he'll bring Kyogre in since he'll have lost half his team by that point.}
islandshore: (Default)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-11-04 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[WHAM!

Zen chuckles as the Wailrein comes close. The good thing about being a giant turtle is that her defenses are sturdy-- the Body Slam staggers her-- even pins her down, but she's stubborn as they come.

And she might just be dropping a Rock Slide attack. She's not one for subtlety.]

[ooc: Works for me! :> I await the might of the death whale.]

pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-04 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Walrein gets knocked away by a wave of rocks from...somewhere. The rock dimension, maybe? Anyway, Walrein gets knocked away and knocked out by a hit like that.]

Come back, Walrein! Good work.

[Archie'll just recall it now. He's a little disappointed it got knocked out, but hey, it turned Lucario into a popsicle, so it had a pretty good run.

In fact, Archie's smiling which...probably isn't good.]

You want to throw rocks, huh? Two can play at that game! Kyogre, Ancient Power!

[Which isn't exactly a fair method of retaliation, but since when does Team Aqua care about being fair?]
islandshore: (RIKU used LEER!)

[personal profile] islandshore 2014-11-06 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[If there is one thing that Riku has learned, it's that legendary Pokémon are not to be taken lightly. When Archie calls for Kyogre to attack, his heart does a leap, ricochets of his ribcage, and he stumbles back, eyes wide.

Zen seems smart enough to dive into his path, but the force of the rocks coming from such a powerful beast sends them both flying backwards. The stubborn part of Riku wants to order her to fight back, but he knows this isn't a fight easily one.

So they run, Riku sending Archie a sharp glare as they make their retreat.

He came so close... If only that stupid whale wasn't there.]
