HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG
Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.
THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.
KEY:
• GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.
• GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.
• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.
• PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.
• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!
A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:
• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.
• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!
• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.
• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.
• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!
• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.
• FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —
If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.
PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.
• UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!
~
☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS ☆.
REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[I'd say getting in close wasn't a good idea after all, Crobat; the poor thing's gonna get smacked pretty hard with that huge serpentine tail of Gyarados's, and it's not gonna be pretty. He may have gotten bit, but if it bothered him, it doesn't show; the Atrocious Pokemon looks like its getting a fair bit enraged, though, as he tends do during his more intense battles; it's Gyarados nature, after all. Despite the fact that Marlin is fairly docile. When his trainer gets serious, he gets serious, too...]

You're thinking more about Pokemon than people? Fine then, what about all the pokemon you'll be slaughtering when the ocean washes away their homes? Destroys their forests and caves and all the areas that pokemon on land need to survive???
[Luckily for Nova, his attempt to dodge Sharpedo's attack is more successful this time. With that opening, it would probably be a good idea to push another attack...
... but Marlin is in trouble. The effects of confusion are still affecting the poor gyarados, and if it got poisoned on top of that.... that could be serious trouble.]
Nova, switch targets and help Marlin while he's confused! Use Air Slash on Crobat instead!
[Even if the attack doesn't do too much damage, that can at least take the focus off Marlin until he can recover!]

Sharpedo! Hang back and use Focus Energy. Walrein, Blizzard!
[There's a wall of ice heading towards those Pokemon now and and clearly any sort of significance this may have is completely lost on him.
And it's not that he's ignoring their criticisms, it's just that well, look, his mind's made up and no amount of arguing is going to change it.]
no subject
[Well, that ice wall is quite a bit of a nuisance, but Gyarados has enough bulk, plus his resistance, that he should be able to handle the hit just fine...Nova, on the other hand, won't be able to handle it as well, so it's better for Marlin to take the brunt of it...before going back in using Dragon Rage on Sharpedo.]
That's one heck of an ice attack, huh, Elsa?
no subject
But this is no time to laugh. Nova has to land to prevent himself from getting buffeted by the icy blast, and even though Marlin does his best to shield him from the attack, you can't really completely protect yourself from a blizzard like that. The gyarados takes the brunt of the force, which certainly helps, but some of the biting ice still manages to hit Nova.
The charizard is visibly tired now, the flames pouring out of his mouth shrinking a bit, but his fierce focus hasn't dimmed a bit. He staggers, but still roars in defiance, and that's almost enough to quell Elsa's concern over her sister's beloved starter.]
It's okay, Nova, just hold out a little more! You're doing great. [She tries to sound reassuring, but. Yeah, she's still worrying.] Use Flame Burst on Walrein!
[Good thing about Elsa collecting ice-types? She can pretty easily figure out how to fight back against them.]

Sheer Cold!
[Walrein's going to fire another ice attack their way, while Archie recalls Sharpedo and brings out Mightyena.
Take Down that Gyardos if it survives Walrein's attack!
{OOC: Are you both okay with Kyogre ending it after you two KO another of his Pokemon?}
no subject
Anna's been at the whole battling thing for a bit of a while, but not quite long enough to ever have seen a one-hit KO move in practice. So when Sheer Cold goes off, she doesn't really know what to expect; all she manages to catch is the inside of Walrein's mouth turning white, and the air around her growing incredibly frigid for an instant...before her Mega Gyarados becomes frozen solid, instantly knocked out in the ice.]
M-Marlin!
[To think a move like that exists...her poor baby didn't stand a chance. Thankfully, he returns to his Poke Ball just fine, which is a bit of a relief...she'll kiss the Ball and put it back, throwing out another in its stead. He'll be okay, and he fought so hard...]
Alright, Hammerhead, show him what you got..! Kick off with a Dragon Dance, and then Dual Chop!
[Her Fraxure seems fairly determined as well, even though she knows there's a type disadvantage between Ice and Dragon...still, he's strong enough to handle this.]
no subject
Nova, come on back! [Despite his desire to keep fighting, Nova can't help but look slightly relieved as he's called back, replaced instead with her Braixen. He's all rested up from all the fighting done yesterday, so he's raring to go the moment he's released.]
Surtr, use Flame Charge on Walrein!
[OOC: Yeah, I'm totally good with it too!!]
no subject
Sucker Punch that Braixen!
[To do that.
And as far as Walrein goes, Archie could use Rest and this could go on and on and on, but instead...]
Ice Ball! Freeze that dragon too!
no subject
Just a little bit more and we've got this, Elsa! Hang in there..! Hammerhead, one more smack to Walrein'll do it! Dragon Claw and knock it down!
[And if that's all she wrote, Fraxure'll begin to glow, finally going through its second evolution...into this adorable thing, who, by the way, looks positively fierce. He's got quite the menacing sounding roar, too...]
...Well then~!
no subject
Try using Fire Spin, Surtr! Spread it out as much as you can!
[The tornado of fire is whipped up with just a few flicks of Surtr's "wand", and while it can't hit Walrein as well as Mightyena, who Surtr is aiming for, hopefully the spiraling heat can lessen the intensity of any ice-based attacks for at least a few moments while Hammerhead recovers from his sudden evolution...!]
no subject
I warned you two before about the power of the sea. Now witness Team Aqua's might firsthand!
[He holds up his hand, motioning for Kyogre to prep its attack before pointing at their Pokemon.]
Kyogre, Origin Pulse!
[And now there's a barrage of some sort of watery orbs
bulbapedia please get a better description of how this worksinbound.]no subject
T-that's hardly even fair..!
no subject
Shit.]
Forget about attacking, Surtr, just focus on getting out of the way of that attack...!
[EVEN THOUGH THAT SEEMS TERRIBLY UNLIKELY...]
