Summary: After all the shenanigans of Hoennween, it's about time everybody had a chance to relax and unwind, courtesy of some actually benign NPCs. With all the luxuries of the Hotel Richissime waiting at their disposal, that shouldn't be too difficult a prospect!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• At the moment, this log spans the entirety of the New Year's Eve plot, so starters may be posted for any time on either day of the event. If things start getting massive and it looks like an overflow log will be necessary, we'll definitely see about putting one up, and will link it to this one if need be.

• The Event Itinerary can be found here! Remember that participating in this course of events is not mandatory, but it's what will be going on in the grand scheme of things over the course of the event.

• All event participants are being housed on the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Your bedrooms are laid out like this; if you participated in our IC Rooming Roulette, you can find your buddy on this table here!

• Most activities here will be free! ICly, your characters will use their room cards to "pay" for most things, and the charges will be applied to their room (which of course, they are not paying for personally). Gift shops, parts of the casino, and food not provided as part of the event are not chargeable to your rooms and characters will have to use their own money in those locations.

• Underage characters may use the casino; however, they may be subject to some social scrutiny and side-eyeing in the event that they attempt to get in on one of the high-roller tables.

A NOTE ABOUT USING THREADS ON THIS LOG FOR AC:

Because of how our AC period works (the grace week into January still counting toward December), all threads on this log are valid toward December's AC, regardless of timestamp! However, because the log technically spans two different months and we want to encourage tagging out on it, we have also made this decision:

On this log and this log alone, comment threads timestamped in January (OOCly) that reach AC-length may be used towards January's AC, as well. Therefore, if a thread on this log reaches AC length with 10+ comments timestamped in January, you can use it toward January's AC (assuming the same thread has not already been used to satisfy December's AC).

Anyone quite so intent on fault-finding, you mean. And I did not.

[ Well, this isn't getting them anywhere, is it. But at least Raikov's sensible enough to let the matter drop. He nods in assent.

After a minute of swaying in comfortable silence, Valmont lets go of Raikov's hand in order to place the one that had been holding it on his waist as well. This has the effect of pulling the other man even closer as his hands come to rest on his lower back. Problem of who's using which hand to do what: solved. Besides, women generally seem to enjoy that, in his experience. Maybe Raikov will too. ]

[Not as ballroomish as he'd like but it's a nice change of pace. Raikov drapes his arms over Valmont's shoulders, purring contently as they continue to sway. This is nice... just the two of them... In the past few months, he's been at his happiest in what feels like an eternity. Even with their ridiculous scuffles and the incident at the beginning of the month, he cherishes every moment they have together.

Raikov leans forward, resting his forehead against his lover's, and smiles softly.]

[ This is nice. It really is. Can they go to fancy hotels every day and fancy dances every night? And just kind of hold each other like this?

Normally he eschews this sort of sentimentality, but damn it, this is (he belatedly realizes) possibly the happiest he's ever been. If he could hear Raikov's thoughts, he'd probably completely agree, in his own roundabout way. But as it is, he just looks him in the eyes, mouth quirking into what might be a genuine smile. ]

[Part of him wants to say more, to just get lost in the heat of the moment. But he knows better. It hasn't been long enough. And is what he feels really true...? He pushes those annoying, complicated thoughts aside and goes for the easier approach: physical affection. It's always been easier for him. So he tilts his head slightly and presses his lips against Valmont's, pouring his bottled up emotions and confused feeling into the kiss. If he can't get it out verbally, this is the next best thing. ... But will the other man understand what he means?]

[ Valmont, unfortunately, has no idea what's going on inside Raikov's head. It's a kiss and it's nice, that's all he knows. So he kisses back, squeezing Raikov just a little tighter. ]

Isn't that supposed to wait until midnight?

[ Not that he minds. ]

[He should have figured. Oh well. It still felt good to get out of his system.]

I'm not allowed to kiss you whenever I want?

[ And he kisses Raikov again to prove it. Get a room, you two. ]

[And Raikov happily returns it. Some of the women nearby them probably giggle and blush. Which is a really odd attitude to have towards gay men. He does his best to ignore them.]

No but you said that kiss should've been saved for midnight. Guess that just means I'll have to give you an even better one then.

[ One gay man and one bi man, thank you very much. Valmont doesn't mind the attention, though. He's hot and Raikov's hot; he'd be surprised if people weren't staring. ]

Mm. I look forward to it.

[ How long is it until midnight, anyway? He's lost track of the time. Note to self: start wearing a watch. ]

[Well, they don't know that. But Raikov smiles.]

Shall we head back up to the room before then or continue the festivities with everyone else?

Well. I can't say I'm opposed to the idea of spending some alone time with you. [ His hands slide a little further down Raikov's back. ] But I must confess to some curiosity about the hologram show we were promised. One doesn't see one of those every day, after all. Do you think you can hold out until then?

Mmm... I don't know...

[He sways his hips in a more exaggerated manner as they dance.]

You make it difficult... but I can try.

I suppose I ought to take that as a compliment. [ And he does. ] But I doubt I'm that irresistible. You'll survive.

You don't have the time, do you?

Well, with the combination of my sexual appetite and how handsome you ate, it can be difficult at times...

[He purrs, grinding their hips together.]

I only have my Gear on me. I'm sure they'll make an announcement when the show is about to begin.

[ Oof. He does his best to delicately maneuver himself out of grinding range. Not that it doesn't feel good - it feels great - but damn it, Raikov, have a little self-control! ]

Well, they'd better make it soon. [ Because at this rate, whether or not he can hold out until midnight is an open question. ]

[Self control? Him? Pff. Please. Raikov notices him move away slightly though and smirks.]

[ Possibly because it's 100% true. But damn it, he's supposed to be the one actually capable of keeping his baser desires in check in this relationship. ]

I'm merely interested in seeing these holograms, that's all.

Mmhmm... I'm sure. I do wonder what sorts of things they can do with holograms nowadays. Back in my world, they were just something you read about in science fiction.

[ To be fair, it isn't all that hard to tell. Not exactly the world's best liar here. At least, not when it comes to personal matters. ]

I admit a certain lack of knowledge on the subject, myself. But I can tell you holograms are hardly widespread in 2001, at least. What sort of progress they have made in fourteen years, or in another world, I find myself rather unqualified to speculate.

I've heard this place is far more advanced than most places, even by this year. If they have the ability to put huge animals into tiny containers, I imagine they can make just about any sci-fi technology become real.

Fair point, I suppose. Far be it from me to assume anything about how this blasted world operates.

[ As the current song winds down, an announcement rings out: the next dance is to be the final one before the hologram show. So enjoy it, gala-goers! ]

Well, finally. [ He realizes as soon as he says it how that probably came across. ] Er, I mean... not that I don't enjoy dancing with you, it's just, the holograms, you understand -

[ He cuts himself off, takes a deep breath, and looks up at Raikov. ]

That is - may I have this dance?

[Raikov knew what he meant thankfully. He smiles and perhaps even blushes a bit.]

Of course.

[What a way to ring in the new year. ... Honestly, he couldn't think of a better way to spend it.]

[ Damn it, Raikov, don't start with the blushing. You're going to make feelings happen again.

The last song is an appropriately slow and sentimental one. Valmont ought to be enjoying himself quite as much as Raikov apparently is, but something feels off. He's done this sort of thing countless times, so why...?

Maybe because none of those countless times had been with someone he actually cared about?

He shakes his head. Bloody stupid feelings. Ignore them, Valmont. Just concentrate on the dance. ]

[Considering the only things Raikov is concentrating on is the song and Valmont, he notices something seems off. He waits for a few moments before he decides to bring it up.]

... Everything alright?

[ He looks at Raikov, finally, because he's been sort of avoiding the man's eyes. What is he supposed to say? No, everything is not all right, I think I might have actual feelings for you and it's scaring the hell out of me? That's kind of a bombshell to drop right now, and besides, who knows if Raikov even feels the same way.

Then again, maybe it doesn't matter if he does. Feelings or not, this is nice. Dancing together, holding each other... He's happy like this. He really is. Does he need anything else? ]

Everything's... fine.

[ And almost everything is. ]
