8th Act - Happy Anniversary, Eve's Garden Circus!

You know what's better than a regular birthday? The birthday of a circus.




Throughout the streets of Goldenrod, folks will find all sorts of colorful characters and Pokemon about. Fliers and the like have been regular eve since the Circus started up a year ago, but the advertising is in full force today just to make it EXTRA apparent that today is the day. Another hint is all the air traffic in the skies- various Flying-type Pokemon that make up the Circus' transportation service. Who knows? Maybe you're one of those using it today!

And of course, who can miss the colorful spectacle that is the circus itself? Past the entrance gate (which will let you onto the circus grounds for a miniscule fee) are dozens and dozens of stalls and little tents. Looming over them is the main tent itself, a monstrosity of bright welcoming colors. There are all sorts of things amongst their ranks, but it's generally fairly easy to find what you're looking for as Pidgey of a feather flock together and all that... From games of all sorts like the usual carnival games to more of a retro arcade, to a set of shops with local crafts and maybe something from the foreign trainers.... Of course, there's also all sorts of food stalls and even shacks for more filling stuff.

There's even a Litleo hunt going on today! Catch one, win a prize!

With all that alone, you could probably keep busy for most of the day! But surely you aren't forgetting the Big Act?

Yep, the big acts in the Big Top. Times are posted both at the front gate, on fliers you can pick up here and there, and by the entrance to the large tent. For each day, there will be three shows! Better hope you can snag a ticket before they get sold out... Although maybe you'll get lucky for the next show. Or the next day....

Either way, it promises to be a fun weekend!

[Kaneki had been lifting his coffee to his mouth for a drink, so he swallows before answering with a slight tilt of his head.]

Are you sure?

[shuttermouse]

You do it back home.

[samsa]

[Ah.]

I see. Well, I guess I'll...do the same here, then, if you really don't mind.

[shuttermouse]

I wouldn't have brought it up if I minded. [ She moves to take a seat across the table. ]

What are you reading?

[samsa]

Don Quilladin.

[He pauses for a moment, making a face.]

...all of the books here are altered to have Pokemon in them. Or...maybe they were just written that way to start with, in this world. In some books it can be pretty interesting, but...it's just weird in others.

[shuttermouse]

....Seriously? [ Good thing she doesn't read much, so she doesn't care if the classics are ruined by Pokémon getting shoehorned in. ]

Does he still fight windmills or is the plot altered too?

[samsa]

Oh no, the plot's pretty similar, actually...though some details have been changed. Considering how the original is, though, it doesn't read too much differently even with the main character being named after a Pokemon.

I see... I wonder what a book like "The Black Goat's Egg" would be like here. [ Other than being renamed into The Black Gogoat's Egg or something. ]

It'd be kind of weird to put Pokémon in that one.

[samsa]

That's something I've thought about a lot, actually. It would seem out of place...

[Actually, he's not sure if any of Takatsuki Sen's works would mesh very well with Johto.]

But I am curious to know what it would be like. It might be surprisingly good...or just really inaccurate, at the worst.

[shuttermouse]

Maybe the gore would be replaced by Pokémon battles.

[samsa]

I wouldn't be surprised...it would be far less interesting like that, though.

[What's a horror story without, well, some horror to it?]

[shuttermouse]

Yeah. It probably wouldn't even resemble the original anymore.

[samsa]

I guess some genres wouldn't work as well here. You would be surprised, though; some entries in the Pokedex for certain Pokemon sound like horror stories themselves.

[shuttermouse]

...Go on. [ Now she's curious. She's read some of the 'Dex entries but not all of them. ]

[samsa]

The most recent one I read about was a partial Dark and Ghost-type called Sableye. Have you heard of it?

[shuttermouse]

Yeah. You wrote about it in that post of yours.

[samsa]

I didn't mention one of the entries I found. Apparently, they are thought to have the ability to steal the spirits of people who look directly into their eyes.

[shuttermouse]

That's pretty interesting.

[ ...thanks, Chie. ]

[samsa]

[...well she isn't wrong, it is interesting.]

I would have been skeptical, but...I own a Pokemon that drains energy to keep the flame on its body burning. He doesn't usually do it on purpose, though.

[But he's also woken up...on the floor once or twice, so he had a pretty good idea as to what happened.]

[shuttermouse]

...I want to see it. [ Her eyes seem to have been lit up with fascination ]

[samsa]

[Kaneki blinks, shifting to shut his book for the time being.]

Oh, well...okay.

[It takes him a moment to fish the Pokeball out of his bag, but once he does he releases what looks like a tiny candle with a purple flame atop his head. He yawns, rubbing his eyes with two stubby hands before looking up at Chie, blinking curiously at the unfamiliar face.]

This is Phantom.

[shuttermouse]

[ Chie leans forward to get a better look, propping her chin up with one hand, studying the candle thing. ]

Woah...

[samsa]

[Kaneki watches as Phantom eyes her from his spot on the table, admittedly feeling a little naked without his little tea candle holder to sit in.]

It's still a little weird to think that I hatched a candle with a face from an egg.

[shuttermouse]

Yeah. It's even weirder than hatching a goat from an egg. [ She continues to look at the Litwick, biting off another piece of bread as she does so. ]

[samsa]

[Phantom lets out a little huff, his flame flaring a bit. Hey, it's not that weird you guys >C]

He's really good to have around, though. I don't have to worry about not having a reading light, at least.
