But no, she had not planned such a thing. Not at all. John wasn't going to be allowed to go anywhere before, he's simply sealed his fate now.
His kissing fate.
Maybe it really had cursed them oh nooooo.]]
no subject
[But hey, is he allowed to suck at her lower lip a little? He suddenly does not care that they're kind of at a party where any number of people could see this. Like Rose's mom. Or Dave. But hey, at least nobody's getting handsy this time, that's always a plus.]
no subject
Or your butt.
But no, he is of course allowed. At least as long as he doesn't mind her wrapping her other arm around his shoulder now.]]
no subject
[But nope, he doesn't mind. Though he's just going to keep suckling at her lower lip for now. He's still a little hesitant to initiate makeouts after how long Rose made him wait for them in the first place.]
no subject
And also it probably won't be more than butt touching. She's not that drunk yet.]]
no subject
[There's probably a reason canon calls them sloppy makeouts. Probably. In any case, John tilts his head to the side a little, parting his lips for her.]
no subject
[When she steps into the room, pile of plastic cups held carefully in her left hand, the last thing she is expecting to see is that, so for a second it doesn't register, and she actually gets about three steps in before her brain goes 'hey, wai a tick here...' and points out that John and Rose are making out. John and Rose are making out. Sloppily making out. Beneath the mistletoe.]
[Right. The mistletoe. The human tradition that had already gotten her face-painted by Gamzee and smooched by Aradia. Okay. So it wasn't a big deal, it was just John and Rose following human holiday oriented traditions and...]
[And her hand was on his butt. Rose's hand was on John's butt. And as she stood there, the kiss didn't seem to be slowing down, or easing off or...what were they doing with their tongues?]
[This did not look like a holiday tradition oriented kiss. This looked like...it...]
[Oh.]
[Oh.]
[Picture, if you will. One former troll dressed in a holiday sweater, who has just dropped a stack of plastic cups, her eyes the size of dinner plates and her expression one of heartbreak as she stands in a doorway, watching the girl she has the biggest crush on, and from her perspective FINALLY just went on a date with her, making out with some human boy.]
Oh.

Kanaya is there. And she...sure doesn't seem happy...
Cue just a little confusion on her part. Her mind hasn't quite connected the dots that maybe her friend is upset over them and not about something else.]]
Kanaya?
no subject
[It's the look he's spent the past two weeks hoping against hope that he wouldn't have to see on Vriska's face if/when she ever comes back. The fact that he's not the one that Kanaya has a thing for (at least he's pretty sure that's the case, he can't possibly see how that could be a thing) does little to make him feel better though. Because this situation is awkward no matter which side of the equation you're on.]
[Shit.]
[His expression turns awkwardly apologetic as he glances from Kanaya to the floor then decides that he really probably should keep eye contact and looks back at the former troll, biting his lip.]
Sorry.
[In reality, he probably has very little to apologize for here. It's not his fault that both he and Kanaya fell in love with Rose no more than it's his fault that Rose ended up with him. Equally as true is the fact that it's not really his fault that Kanaya had to find out like this. He had no way of knowing that she had a thing for Rose. But despite all this, he still feels bad. Because this is a really shitty way to find out.]
I can leave and give you two a minute, if you want. Unless you actually want me here for this, though I can't imagine you would so, erm...
[It's probably a good thing that at least one of them is sober here. John refuses to let this end badly. No. It's Christmas and goddammit we are going to Talk About This.]
no subject
[Even if right then at that second some little part of her hated him.]
[No. That was foolish, by all accounts he was one of the nicest humans anyone knew, albeit with a tendency towards shenanigans. And the clinical part of her that had spent so much time moirailing could admit they actually looked...nice together. Which just made it all worse, really. God, she felt so stupid, she just wanted to break down and cry.]
[Which she couldn't do. She was not going to cry in front of them. No. Gape silently, maybe, but not cry. She sucks in a breath slowly, her fingers digging into the fabric of her skirt as if she somehow expects that to give her strength.] I-
[A hesitation. Okay. Come on. She closes her eyes tightly for a moment, and when they open the jade circles are slightly marred with watery tears. No.] I apologize. I should not...I mean...I should have been more considerate about where...where I was going. Uhm.
[Another breath, and a half-step back the way she had come.] I need...to leave. Sorry. [The last word is a whispered rush of sound before she turns to abscond back the way she came, leaving only horrible awkwardness and a pile of dirty plastic cups in her wake.]
no subject
[[Maybe not right, but back either way. She kisses his cheek fleetingly and tries to follow her troll friend. Because she's not just going to let her leave on this kind of note, in this kind of awkwardness, without talking to her.]]
no subject
[He's pretty sure that she will neither need him nor will Kanaya want him there but he figured he would put the offer out there anyway. Just in case.]
[In the meantime, he'll just go look for something else to occupy his time and hopefully take his mind off this...]
no subject
[She should have just brought it up. Did it even matter? Rose probably didn't even know about that date, didn't care, she obviously...]
[She nearly steps on Sunshine, the budew scurrying out from where she'd been napping to check on her concerned trainer, and Kanaya makes a frustrated noise before she hurries around the little plantbeast, who trails after her with worry in her eyes.]
[Kanaya doesn't stop until she's outside though, not even noticing the cold and the snow as she moves away from the building, intent on getting as far from that party, from them as she possibly could.]
[Not that she gets very far, probably barely a little ways down the street before she slumps down on a snow covered bench, brushing the cold powder aside. Well. That was that, really, wasn't it? She knew. What had she even been hoping for? This was probably going to happen back there too, if Karkat was right, if humanity as a species was going to survive, but...but...]
[But that didn't help.]
Shit.
[She finally gives in, dropping her head into her hands and sobbing. Shit shit shit.]
no subject
It took her a little bit to find the girl after that, though, no help from nearby Pokemon to assist her. But when she did finally spot her - sobbing on a bench in the snow - she suddenly is very aware that she doesn't...really know what to say.
She'd figure it out as she went, and she cautiously approached the bench, sitting down quietly beside the former troll once she reached it.]]
Kanaya?
no subject
[But what was she supposed to say?] Ah. [She trails off, frowning, and looks down at her hands for a moment, then back at Rose...then she just sighs and slumps down into the bench more.]
Sorry.
no subject
Would...you be willing to talk to me about this? I understand if you'd rather not, but.
no subject
I suppose it's better to do so now than later. Not that I have any idea what to say.
no subject
no subject
[She catches herself. She knows she's rambling, it's a lot easier to do in person than in text, really.]
You might as well have a seat.
no subject
Really, both can matter. Though what happens from here on out will likely take precedence.
no subject
[Now how to...]
Just before I was brought here, we were on a date. You kissed me.
[Then fell down the stairs, but perhaps leave that part out.]
no subject
I can...certainly better understand why you're so upset now.
no subject
Yes. And no one thought to mention...well. And I was attempting to determine some way of finding out where you were, timewise, to see if I should and then...
[She just waves her hand vaguely in the air like 'and there it was.']
no subject
And...no. I'm not that far along myself.
If it will help any further avoidance of...uncomfortable situations. The easiest way to learn where someone is at timewise is to simply ask them first, and then explain what you feel comfortable doing so from your end afterward. [[The least she can do is try and help with that.]]
no subject
I...as far as I have determined, no one is as far along as I, except perhaps Aradia. I...suppose I should have taken that into consideration, honestly.
[She's falls silent again, frowning faintly, nibbling at her bottom lip in frustration.]
I did not expect this.
