'Cause Baby, Tonight The DJ's Got Us Falling In Love Again...

Who: EVERYONE
Where: Scenic Tohjo Falls!
When: Friday, April 5 through Saturday, April 6
Summary: WHAT SUMMARY DO YOU NEED, IT'S POKEPROM
Rating: May vary by thread, please mark accordingly!
Log:

It's here! It's here! Clair's first-ever (and, Lance hopes, last-ever) Pokemon Prom is here, coming to you straight from scenic Tohjo Falls! You've packed your bags, you've hitched your rides, and now you're taking your first steps in to a super swank palatial PokeManor where, prior to now, only the pseudo-legendary best of the best had ever tread. Gosh, that must make you pretty special, huh? (Well, you and everyone else in the massive crowd that arrived along with you, that is.) Of course, you're all destined for greatness. But at the moment, your more immediate destiny is forty-eight hours of fun.

So get going!

☆ YOU ARE HERE ☆

KEY:
BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors, and the grounds will reflect that; there'll be the usual decorations of pretty floral arrangements, little lights, things like that. Think garden party!
GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since this is a house party and not a hotel party, but this is where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in. (Note: you're welcome to try to sleep elsewhere, but Clair might catch you and disapprove. You don't want that, do you?)
RED areas are unfortunately off-limits to guests! If asked about them, anyone will tell you that those are the rooms and areas that the Elite Four have claimed for themselves, and they're sealed off tight. Please don't try to break into them anyway; you'll only be caught and punished.

AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who would prefer to class it up a little more than just your standard garden party. There's a big skylight, hardwood floors, tasteful artwork, and classy music — a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.
AREA B will be the area of interest for anyone hoping to sneak a little Pokemon research on the side: this is the Library/Gallery area of the house. While most of it is your standard "tall shelves of ancient identical books" fare, there are a few points of interest — a sculpture of Lugia, a painting of the Ecruteak City skyline before the Brass Tower burned down, some stone etchings of what might be Fossil Pokemon, and so on. Guests are welcome to look around a little, but burying themselves in research the whole time will be highly frowned upon, and you'll be politely encouraged to leave the library alone and go rejoin the festivities if you hole up in there for too long.
AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. More importantly, it's where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Do it anywhere else and you'll be facing some very displeased hosts.
AREA D is the Elite Four's Trophy Room. Please be quiet and respectful if you come up here to have a look around; it's a solemn kind of place. Here you'll find various collections of badges, ribbons, awards, and trophies put on display, with one wall devoted to each member of the Elite Four. Of particular note is a glass case with a broken Ultra Ball mounted inside; the brass plaque attached claims it's the ball Lorelei was using when she almost caught Articuno. On a lighter note, there are also pictures of the Elite Four themselves — your standard Official Portraits™, sure, but also some framed candids of them in various configurations hanging out with their Pokemon and engaged in various activities around the house (Agatha making waffles, Lance and Bruno clowning around in the pool, stuff like that).

Kanaya was indeed relaxing at this point, actually enjoying the event, a lot of the tension having faded at this point. Although she felt some of it come crawling back when John suddenly popped up in front of her, looking friendly and...a bit awkward. Of course. She couldn't blame him, would they ever not be awkward?

"Ah, hello John." She offered him a little nod of her head, her gaze settling down on him. Either she was growing, he was shrinking, or she just hadn't noticed how much taller than him he was, but it actually made her feel a little better.

"Yes, I made the dress myself. Thank you," that made her smile, at least. She was rather proud of the dress.
ghostytrainer: (that makes me smile!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-06 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
One day...one day they will figure out how not to be awkward around each other. John is sure of this. And maybe on that day, they will be on eye level with each other as well. Nope.

"It looks really good on you, you did an amazing job. Same with Rose's! I almost didn't believe her when she said you made it for her, I thought for sure it was store bought." He beams...though his smile falters a bit as he seems to realize that maybe that last bit didn't exactly come out as complimentary as he intended. "Not that...there's something wrong with home-made dresses or anything like that! I just meant that you are a very skilled seamstress."

Please don't tell him he already stuck his foot in his mouth this early in the conversation...

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-06 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Kanaya was at least able to tell that there was a compliment in all that, and she somehow doubted that John would've insulted someone intentionally, not unless he was either 'pranking' them or they were genuinely horrible. And there was little reason for this to be a prank.

"Thank you," another little head bob, and a genuine smile this time, a bit embarrassed. "I wasn't certain I would finish it in time, so I am glad it turned out well." A beat. "I may have offered to make it without considering how much time I had before the dance."

She also may have spent an entire night sewing, but she was never going to admit that to anyone who wasn't already aware.

"I am glad you like it. And she likes it, I assume." That was the point, after all.
ghostytrainer: (that was a pretty funny joke!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-07 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
John doesn't pretend to know anything about sewing (because he doesn't) but he figured making a dress was something that took a pretty decent chunk of time. Especially considering that Rose wasn't even around for measurements. And those are typically a thing you need to make clothes, right?

"Well I certainly wouldn't have guessed that it was a rush job. I am pretty sure that she likes it just as much as I do, if not more. But I wasn't the one who told you that, shhh." He holds a finger to his lips, giggling a little. "Because that's something you probably should hear from her, you know? So, are you enjoying yourself?"
wontturntostone: (Mmm let's see...)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-07 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Kanaya's dress-fu was just that good. And she'd had Rose send her measurements!

"I prefer to have more time, but when I don't..." She shrugged, because she would manage regardless of the circumstances. She was just stubborn like that, honestly. And she can't help but smile at that, nodding her head. "I won't mention you said anything," she agreed. And she meant it, because she rather liked John. As much as she didn't want to.

"I am. Once I fished Sunshine out of the pool, at least, I have been. Are you?"
ghostytrainer: (relaxing in the shade.)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-07 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I am, yes. Quite a bit, actually. I never thought I would have the chance to go to something like this."

It's something he had accepted long before the whole SBURB thing. Kind of hard to go to a prom when you're homeschooled, after all. And he always thought he was okay with this fact, but now that he's actually AT one, he's really glad that he got this chance.

"So it's pretty great, yeah."
wontturntostone: (Sprite - Chat Chat)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"We didn't have gatherings like this on Alternia. At least, not that I was aware of, but I grew up on an island in the middle of the ocean so I suppose it's possible they had them in a city like where Sollux lived." She smiled some.

"I have to admit, on the whole I was fairly intimidated but as long as I focus on a smaller section of the event, it's...actually fascinating." She paused for a moment.

"Have you had a chance to dance?"
ghostytrainer: (this is how they smile in the animes!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-09 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? You did?" And it's at that moment that John realizes he knows...basically nothing about Kanaya. Not that that's entirely his fault, necessarily. The fact that she hasn't really been here kind of made it hard to get to know her. But she's been here for how many months now? And he didn't even know what kind of place she lived in? That's all on him, right there.

This settles it. He's going to redouble his efforts to become friends with her. No more being awkward. Fuck being awkward. Somehow that seems really dumb to him now.

"I have had the chance though, yeah. I wasn't about to let all of Valeria and Rose's dancing lessons go to waste, after all!" He grins. "Please tell me that you have too though. Because if you say that nobody has asked you to dance all night then I might be a little bit upset with everybody here because seriously. What the fuck."
wontturntostone: (It's a beautiful day.)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-09 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. The virgin mother grub who raised me took me out there to design my home." She sounded wistful for a moment...she did miss her island, even with the creatures of the day she had to hunt on it.

"Ah...I have. Some." She can't decide if she knows what she's doing when it comes to dancing. "I never thought to take lessons though, I have simply been...muddling through as the situation requires."

There were some toe-stepping incidents.
ghostytrainer: (okay so say you have this bird and...)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-10 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hehe, well if it makes you feel any better, the only reason I thought to ask for lessons was because of this party in the first place. I didn't want to make Rose look bad just because I never learned anything other than the chicken dance." He laughs a little bit. They probably still haven't played the Chicken Dance tonight, John is a little upset. They had better play it before the night is over.

"So my 'lessons' are actually, basically, a week-long crash course in learning the simplest classical dances and how not to step on people's feet. But uh...if you want we could maybe, erm...you know, like...do the thing..."

You know that moment when you know exactly what you want to say but you can't really figure out how you want to word it, yet you start talking anyway and tie your tongue up in knots? Yeah. John is having one of those moments. Complete with weird hand motions that are really not helping to make his point. Luckily, they aren't anything that could even possibly be construed as anything inappropriate but...seriously what are you pointing to, John, and what is that swooping gesture even supposed to mean?

"Okay, what I mean to say here is...Kanaya, would you like to dance with me? You don't have to if you don't want to! It's fine, I wouldn't take offense to that! I just...thought it might be, you know, kinda...fun."

Conversationalist of the year, right here.
wontturntostone: (Elegant)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-11 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Kanaya raised an eyebrow at John's gesticulatory interlude, but she managed to not laugh or even smile too widely at it, at least until he managed to find his voice again. It wasn't difficult to figure out where he was headed, but it seemed polite to let him get there rather than interrupt.

But did she want to dance with him? It wasn't that easy a question...sometimes she was pretty sure she hated him, even if she knew she shouldn't, and didn't want to. Because none of it was his fault...it wasn't anyone's fault, in all honesty.

She drew in a breath finally and nodded her head, holding out a hand. "Yes, John. I'd like that."
ghostytrainer: (smile for the camera!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-12 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
You're a good person, Kanaya. Most people probably would have scooted carefully away before he managed to figure out how to string his words together properly. Or strung them together for him. Judging by the grin on his face, he's definitely glad that she opted to do neither of these things. Not only did he get a 'yes' but also an 'I'd like that'? Sweet.

He holds his hand out toward her, dipping a little in a sort of half-bow. "Well then...the dance floor awaits!"
wontturntostone: (It's a beautiful day.)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-12 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Kanaya was a real classy lady, of course, and such things come naturally to such broads as her. So she took his hand, not appearing to be at all nervous as she actually was, and smiled.

"Lead the way," she said carefully. "Though I should warn you, I have been learning how to dance as I do so. I cannot promise not to step on your feet."

She'd try, though.
ghostytrainer: (wink~)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-12 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Well I promise not to hold it against you if you do." It's part of the learning process, after all. Luckily, John managed to get that particular issue ironed out during his practice sessions. "Well, not for too long, anyway." He winks, clearly teasing as he comes to a stop at a suitable spot on the dance floor.

He turns to face Kanaya, his left hand moving to rest on her waist and...wow yeah, this height difference is going to make things interesting. Talk about a delayed realization on his part, there. Oh well! So she's about a head taller than he is, they can totally still dance.
wontturntostone: (Sprite - Sheepish)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-12 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's polite of you," Kanaya agreed with a little nod as they found their spot on the dance floor, and after a moment of adjustments she figured out where her hands should go. She was actually discovering she was a bit embarrassed by this whole process.

And it was hard not to be surprised by how short he was. He could give Karkat a run for his money at this point. "This may be somewhat more awkward than we had anticipated, John."
ghostytrainer: kanaya ('eyyyyy classy lady!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-12 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure at this point that even Karkat has him beat in the height department. He's been going through growing pains recently, after all. Luckily, John understands exactly what she's getting at.

"Nonsense! You say that like I haven't been dancing with those less vertically challenged than me all night. Here, just..." He attempts to start leading Kanaya into whatever sort of dance best fits the music. Or well, the one he thinks fits best. And true enough, he seems to have figured out a few tricks to compensate for his height deficiency. Granted, Kanaya is a bit taller, if not the tallest, person he's danced with all night so he'll probably have to make a few more adjustments as they go...but he is determined to make this work.

"See? Totally doable. We got this."
wontturntostone: (Elegant)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-15 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Kanaya was rather uncertain about the whole process, but as things progressed she was forced to admit that John seemed to have the dancing under control. At least, it wasn't as awkward as what might have been expected when dancing with someone who could almost be described as 'boob high' on her.

"You seem to be right," she conceded with a smile and a little nod, before turning her attention to the motions herself, watching her partner, and others, to pick up precisely what she should be doing. Without stepping on his toes too many times, at least.
ghostytrainer: (keep your chin up and grin.)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-16 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"It happens sometimes, try not to be too alarmed."

True to his word, he doesn't say anything on the few occasions where Kanaya's feet miss the floor and land on his feet instead. Winces a little and gets off beat for a second, sure, but it's okay. He can deal. And recover!

"So...aside from making dresses, what other sort of things do you like to do? You know...hobbies and what not?"

Somehow, in this seems like the sort of thing you should talk about with someone BEFORE you ask them to dance with you but oh well.
wontturntostone: (It's a beautiful day.)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-16 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Kanaya wasn't certain what to do with that question, so she didn't answer until she was sure she had her footing enough that she could stop focusing on the dance itself and think about speaking.

"Well, I enjoy reading. And I have discovered I like travel," which surprised her, given how much the trip on the meteor had frustrated her. "And raising the pokemon is fascinating, especially when they are small."

There was that momtroll instinct again.
ghostytrainer: (i just love happy endings.)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-18 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aaaaa, I know, right?! Especially right after they hatch. Not that I don't love the Pokémon I catch any less, but there's just something about raising them from an egg that just makes the whole raising process that much more special."

Momtroll, meet Minidad. It's kind of a wonder he doesn't have a wallet full of baby pictures of all his Pokémon at this point...

"Best part of the job, to be honest."
wontturntostone: (Always lighting the way.)

I thought I tagged this!

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-04-25 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I agree," she couldn't help but smile as she said it. "Although I have found a fascination in determining proper breeding pairs and which moves transfer over and how to best facilitate that."

"But the initial hatching, when they're tiny and curious and affectionate...is very appealing."

She would've made a great tender of the mother grub, apparently.
ghostytrainer: (chillin'.)

it's okay! i do that all the time too, haha

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-04-28 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I will admit that ended up being more fun than I thought it would be. It's oddly satisfying to see what kind of awesome ghost babies my Pokémon can make. But my favorite part will always be the hatching and raising part."
wontturntostone: (Always lighting the way.)

[personal profile] wontturntostone 2013-05-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you research what moves they will have first, or allow yourself to be surprised by it?"

Kanaya could never do that, she researched everything pretty methodically at this point.
ghostytrainer: (that makes me smile!)

[personal profile] ghostytrainer 2013-05-14 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I research what moves will be passed down, yeah. It would be kind of rude not to, you know? Since the whole point is to sell or give away the eggs to other people. And they should know exactly what it is they're getting."
