[... He lets out a hoarse laugh, shaking his head.]
No. No, but... I'm... it all goes wrong, Kouta-san. I was... I was blind... it's my fault. I'm so sorry...
[He can't ever really be forgiven, even in a perfect situation where things from now on go as well as they can. There's nothing he can do but try and prevent things from going wrong again.]
[Kouta rubs at Micchy's shoulders, frown evident on his face. He really doesn't like seeing his friend like this. He's still not even sure he can believe what Micchy is saying, but...
He manages a small smile, barely.]
No matter what happens, we're still friends, right?
[He doesn't answer, and Yuko trots over to nudge at the pair gently. Micchy barely looks at her, just staring down at the ground. 'Friends'? How could Kouta ever want to be friends with him after that?]
[Oh, hey new friend! Pachirisu does a rather dramatic butt-wiggle on Micchy's shoulder before hopping over onto Yuko's back. Personal space? What personal space?
Meanwhile, Kouta shakes Micchy a bit, mostly out of frustration.]
[He's used to the pitter patter of Pachirisu paws, so he doesn't really react much. But at Kouta's question, he looks up, pain written clearly on his face. It was easier to hide it from Takatora - he'd gotten used to it - but hiding it from Kouta is difficult. And the truth is he feels worse about killing Kouta than Takatora in some ways.]
[Sure, Takatora was his brother, but Kouta at least could have saved them from a disastrous end, and he removed that possibility with his former friend's death.]
How can you say that, Kouta-san? When I told you I killed you? It doesn't make sense.
[Despite Pachirisu being so happy to make a new friend, Glameow is sitting very protectively next to Kouta and doesn't seem thrilled at all by whatever is going on between his owner and this new kid.
Kouta does his best to manage a comforting smile, squeezing Micchy's shoulders again.]
Because you're my best friend and I trust you. You wouldn't kill me unless you had a good reason to. So... ... I can't be mad at you.
[Kouta isn't sure he wants to keep pressuring Micchy to talk about it if it's making him talk like this. So, he tugs Micchy in and gives him a tight, comforting hug.]
[Excuse you, kid, you're still way too close to his owner, and if you don't back up soon you're liable to accidentally get a claw stuck in your leg.
Pachirisu, on the other hand, perks up when he realizes he's being reached for and saves Micchy the trouble of closing their distance by leaping into his arms with a happy noise.]
[He's had worse. But he nods, giving the Pachirisu a fond scratching from the head to the tail before letting him down. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a Pokeball, expanding it and then releasing Aki the Pachirisu.]
[Upon seeing another Pachirisu, she trills happily, and then looks up at Kouta. Friend! New friend!]
She's been with me for a while. She's pretty powerful.
[Pachirisu was about to complain about being set down (because he was really enjoying those scratches), but perks up and mirrors the trill, running circles around Aki before ducking behind Kouta and clinging to his leg, peeking out at her.
Kouta puts his hands out to his sides to keep from falling over at Pachirisu's excited running, then smiles and waves at the one Micchy released.
Yeah, he's... definitely going to avoid mentioning the Inves similarities.]
... ah. Micchy... ... I probably shouldn't, but... ... can I ask you something? About what happens?
[Despite seeming to fight with himself over being shy or not, Pachirisu jets back out, runs circles around Aki again, then gently butts his head against her side. He crouches down, tail flicking as he stares up at her and tries to make sure she's okay with playing.
... oh. Maybe Kouta shouldn't ask after all, but he's already this far. He knows he shouldn't ask about what happens to his team, he's not sure he could handle knowing any of them die, but...]
[Of course! She makes a mock swipe at him, and chitters gently to let him know she's just playing and doesn't mean to hurt him. She reaches over and taps his tail, before zipping around in a circle. Catch her if you can!]
... He's still around. But... I don't know that I trust the kind of world he wants to build. Hes so obsessed with strength...
[Completely oblivious to his trainer's mood at the moment, Pachirisu trills before he starts chasing her, winding around both of their trainers and even around Glameow. ... Glameow, however, takes the opportunity to stick out a paw and knock Pachirisu over, but the smaller Pokemon just rolls over and then keeps going. He knows his friend only pretends to be mean and doesn't actually want to hurt him, so it doesn't bother him.
Kouta makes a thoughtful noise, crossing his arms in front of his chest.]
I always wanted to hope I could trust him. He... ... I don't think he's a bad person, but along the way I guess he just got misguided.
[Kouta ruffles his hair, huffing out a breath.]
... makes me want to go back and see what I can do.
[He nods at Kouta's assessment. He's not sure about Kaito, but... well. He doesn't want to say that he thinks Kaito is a violent and unstable person. He doesn't exactly have room to talk on that front.]
... Whatever you can do... just make sure he doesn't win. And that Ryouma doesn't win, either. His sort of world would be... a nightmare.
[Kouta knows he doesn't really belong in this world. It's a feeling that keeps pulling at him and he's worried that he won't remember anything Micchy is telling him right now. ... but he has to try.]
[He shakes his head a bit. There's so much more he could tell Kouta, but most of it would be incoherent and he's not sure if pushing too hard at him would have made things better or worse in the end.]
[Yuko puts her head on Micchy's shoulder, and he pats the Rapidash a little fondly.]
That's the important bits... just keep Mai safe, okay?
[He lets Yuko nudge him slightly, and he smiles a bit.]
We'll protect her together, right? Because we're a team.
[Except... his voice sounds a lot more unsure right now. No worries, however, as Pachirisu scales Kouta's back again and perches on his shoulder, tail flicking as he chitters and bumps his head against his trainer's. ... and Glameow might be sitting a little closer to Kouta's leg, but only to protect him. Obviously. Because he's stupid and has no sense of self-preservation.]
[Aki skitters up Micchy's pants and shirt to sit on his shoulder, grooming his hair. He ignores her for the moment. This needs to get through to Kouta.]
[... it's really adorable to see Micchy being treated that way by something but, yes, he really does need to be paying attention to their conversation right now. His heart is sinking at hearing those words and after a short period of contemplation, he nods a few times.]
... all right. I promise. If I can help it, I won't let anything happen to any of you.
[Which prompts him to step forward again, putting a hand on Micchy's shoulder and giving him a firm look.]
Whatever you did to me... Just know that no matter what, you're still my friend. I still care about you. And I'll always forgive you. I know you're not a bad person, Micchy.

Kouta immediately switches to overly concerned older brother mode, tightly grasping Micchy's shoulders.]
Hey... Come on... What are you talking about? You would never hurt me.
[Unless... ...oh. Kouta's heart drops.]
Does... ... does that mean what happens to Yuuya, happens to me?
no subject
No. No, but... I'm... it all goes wrong, Kouta-san. I was... I was blind... it's my fault. I'm so sorry...

I have one of these, too.
