HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG
Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.
THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.
KEY:
• GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.
• GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.
• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.
• PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.
• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!
A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:
• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.
• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!
• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.
• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.
• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!
• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.
• FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —
If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.
PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.
• UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!
~
☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS ☆.
REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[The events of the day-- or, well, technically yesterday, at this time of night-- had been exhausting, but it's sort of hard to sleep, knowing that god-knew-what waited in the morning. It's nerve-wracking. It's a recipe for restlessness. It's downright inconducive to sleep.]
[But there's no better cure for anxiety than pretending nothing is wrong, right? RIGHT.]
[And it's nicer to pretend it's excitement rather than nerves making her heart pound. Because hey. There's no chaperones this time. Look at all this STUFF.]
[Alessa the Absol sits on the library floor, whining softly and staring upwards at the soles of her trainer's boots, where they balance precariously on the edge a particularly high shelf. Heather hears it, but brushes it off. She saw something sparkling up there. And she's gonna have it.]
[Take THAT, pre-bossfight jitters!]
OPTION B: IT'S 5 AM AND I AM OFFICIALLY TOO TIRED TO DO ANY MORE LOOTING
['YOU CAN'T CATCH ME, BAD THOUGHTS!' is a strategy that can only work for so long.]
[Heather had been extremely productive for awhile, there-- she'd explored every inch of the house that wasn't bolted shut, scribbled maps for future reference, AND accumulated a shamefully large pile of things that Didn't Belong to Her (But Was Taking Anyway)-- but eventually the day caught up with her.]
[One of Sunny's jet-black eyes crack open as her trainer flops listlessly back down in the sleeping area, dumping her findings next to her in a series of clatters and jingles, and the Togekiss lets out a disapproving twitter.]
I know, I know. Look at it this way-- there's only three of you and we have no idea what's comin' tomorrow, okay? Better safe than sorry...
[Heather leans back into the Togekiss's downy side with a sigh, knowing that if she was REALLY that mad at her, she'd have swelled up like a pufferfish and gotten scary.]
[Alessa is sprawled on her side, dead to the world-- a rare occurrence, as anyone remotely familiar with the paranoid Absol knows. The events of the day had tuckered her out hard. The only one who'd run more than her had been Carousel, who was spending the night in her Pokeball, since big flaming unicorns and interior dwellings don't go well together.]
[Stifling a yawn, Heather looks wearily out across the big room, taking in the forms of the other people, whether sleeping or restlessly awake, like herself. Then her eyes migrate over to the windows, where the sky is a little lighter than before, but still dark. She sighs again.]
Man, Sunny...
I really hope those three are okay.
OPTION C:
RED BULLMEGA EVOLUTION GIVES YOU WINGS[If yesterday had been eventful.... today is explosive.]
[Literally.]
[There's chunks of magma and rock flying everywhere. Groudon's roars are shaking the earth. At least one Geodude has rained down from the sky. It's intense.]
[A chunk of granite the size of a ping-pong ball whistles past Heather's head so closely that she can practically visualize what it would have done to her skull had it hit. Ducking her head and covering it with both arms, Heather darts from boulder to boulder, dodging rains of ash and pebbles as much as possible, although she can already feel welts rising on her back where she hadn't been quick enough.]
[She's not battling, or at least she's avoiding it where she can. Carousel is too big to safely avoid flying rocks, and Sunny won't stand a chance in the air with all this debris. The Absol at her side is now her only protection, and the cold reality of that fact hasn't gone over her head in the slightest. Even with the Focus Sash now tied around her neck, she isn't as strong as the other two... and the last time she'd been in a serious battle, Heather couldn't forget about the fact that she'd let her faint.]
[The missing Pokemon. She's got to find the missing Pokemon. That's her only priority. That's--]
AUGH! SON OF A--
[AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT, her next step had sent her ankle straight down a tight gap between two rocks. It hurts like hell. But worse than the pain is the fact that she's stuck. Panic flooding her brain, she yanks hard on it, to no avail. Up ahead, Alessa realizes abruptly that her trainer is no longer following, and turns around to skitter back over, the whites of her red eyes showing in distress.]
It's okay, girl, I got-- I got it-- ow, shit! [A hiss of pain escapes between her teeth. Damn, it's really jammed in there...]
[That would be enough of a problem all by itself, but what Heather hears next is what really sends her heart thumping in alarm.]
Hey! Over there! It's that girl from yesterday! The one with the Rapidash!
[Shit.]
[There's nothing to do but keep yanking on that leg as shapes loom up out of the dust-filled air. GodDAMN, is that literally every single Grunt she nearly ran down yesterday?! It seems like literally every single Grunt she ran down yesterday. CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP.]
It IS! How about THAT! I don't see the Rapidash NOW. Aw, did somebody lose their pretty pony?
[Heather grits her teeth, not replying-- but her silence is about as much good as a lame comeback would have been anyway. A few of the Grunts laugh-- the rest just look pissed off. She can't really blame them for that, to be honest, although she wishes they could have passed by five minutes ago when she WASN'T stuck in the freaking ground.]
[Alessa stands protectively in front of her, ears slicked back and teeth bared. But she's not nearly as imposing as Carousel is by sheer size alone, and her presence does not stop the Grunts from continuing to approach.]
I say we teach her a lesson! How's that sound to you, Ponygirl?
Who cares what SHE thinks? -I- say it's a GREAT idea! Someone get that Absol out of the way so I can show this kid what Team Magma does to lousy, meddling--
[Whether or not the Grunt (who was pounding a decently-sized fist into his other palm) was about to commit a crime against wordflow by using the word 'kid' twice in one sentence, no one will ever know. Because at that moment, Heather felt a jarring vibration coming from her pocket-- the pocket where she'd slipped one of those weird multi-hued stones from Lance's ManCave the night before and promptly forgot about because putting on one of his voluminous capes and doing bad Transylvanian accents had seemed a lot more important at the time.]
[In the same instant that the buzzing began, so did a bright, blinding glow that had both Heather AND the Magmas hurriedly shielding their eyes-- and before it could even clear, a pair of feathery, silken white wings burst into the air, unfurling to their full extent. A growl-turned-radiant-hum now sounds from Alessa's throat, as she stands taller between her trainer and the enemy, coat glimmering as though all the ash and dust it had been covered in before had never happened.]
[The Grunts gape.]
[So does Heather.]
UH.... U-UH..... QUICK, EVERYBODY ATTACK!
[Mega Evolution or no, ten against one is bad odds. HELP? WATCH AND EAT POPCORN? Someone do SOMETHING.]
OPTION D: MEANWHILE, BACK ON THE RANCH... J/K IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLEFIELD
[In the midst of.... well, EVERYTHING, it's easy to stop paying attention to the hordes of wild Pokemon trying to help turn the tides of the battle. Especially wild Pokemon who've been separated from their swarms and are resorting to basically just NOT FAINTING long enough to meet back up with their kin.]
[But pressed up against a pile of boulders are three very small, very missable Pokemon-- a Fennekin, a Litleo, and a Fletchling. The former are huddled against the rock (and each other), shaking like leaves. The latter stands between them and a monstrously-large Team Magma Houndoom, its beady little eyes narrowed and tiny wings spread protectively.]
[If a Houndoom could laugh... it would be laughing.]
[If anyone happens to spot the beleaguered little trio... wellp. Help would be appreciated.]
D!
Shaun would understand.
The Floatzel rockets forward with her signature move, swathed in water as she aims straight at the Houndoom with an Aqua Jet, almost too fast for the eye to follow. Whether it actually connects or not... If it connects, that Houndoom probably won't be getting up anytime soon. And if it doesn't, Susie will drop to all fours in front of the little dears (making sure that they don't get splashed).
Don't worry babies, Momma Susie's on the job.]
no subject
[Or fast, for that matter.]
[The hellhound only has enough time to let out an extremely startled yelp before it's completely blindsided by the Floatzel, and goes tumbling away. WASTED.]
[Of course, given Susie's typing, she's potentially even MORE of a threat to the trio of fire babies than the Houndoom had been, and ohmygosh WHAT IF SHE'S FROM TEAM AQUA...]
[Not sure what to think, the Fennekin and Litleo huddle even closer, staring warily up at Susie-- the Fletchling, meanwhile, hops up and down, chittering angrily. >8( SHE TOTALLY HAD THAT SITUATION UNDER CONTROL, WHAT'S THE DEAL.]
no subject
Are you all okay? Were you separated from your trainer?
The "word" she uses for trainer is more like "leader," or "partner." A term that doesn't exclude wild pokemon hierarchies, or exclusively refer to humans. ...Where are your parents, children.]
no subject
[The Litleo winds up being the one speaking up, in a sweet but somewhat gruff voice for a baby.]
We came to help Arceus! But we didn't expect it to be so...
[Here the Fennekin interrupts, sounding a little bit haughty.]
Entirely mad?
Yeah, that!
B!
... Here.
[He keeps his voice low because... well. He doesn't want to wake people up.]
no subject
Oh, hey... thanks.
S'kinda chilly in here, isn't it?
[She cups her hands around the mug to warm them, holding under her chin.]
no subject
[His Magneton rolls their eyes. Forgive their trainer, he's a giant awkward nerd.]
no subject
[IT'S OKAY, HEATHER HAS HAD A LOT OF EXPERIENCE IN DEALING WITH NERDS. She usually refrains from teasing them until she's been talking to them longer than like three minutes.]
Well, fortunately for me I've got a big living heater right here.
[She reaches back and gives Sunny's plumage a pat.]
This is Sunny, by the way. The Absol sleeping over there is Alessa.

C
[Well, that sure was a flying kick into that guy's chest.]
no subject
[Heather just sort of watches all of this go down with a slack jaw, because it all happened REALLY FAST and you guys what is even going on]
[The guy Al just straight-up power-kicke in the chest makes a whooshing sound as the air leaves his lungs and then he just topples right down.]
[Alessa knows when to take advantage of an opportunity, and she launches forward, hooked talons glowing darkly as they let loose a ferocious Night Slash at the remaining Grunts. She may not be the sort inclined to attack right off the bat... but when her trainer's safety is in question, she has no hesitation.]
no subject
[Al rolls out of the way and back to his feet, assessing the situation with a quick glance before turning to Heather.] Heather, are you okay?
[Al's team is similarly driving the Magma Pokemon back, with Eddie and Lisa as the main attackers while Cecil keeps the enemy off-balance. Clara comes in for a second Agility dive, swooping low enough that any Grunts still standing will have to duck or take some fisted talons to the head.]
no subject
[She's started clawing at the rocks her ankle's been jammed between-- it's painful, but if she can pry one of them loose, she can get free.]
[Team Magma, meanwhile, is very outgunned-- between MEGALESSA and Alphonse's quick-footed team. The trainers turn tail and RUN. ... Those of them that haven't been knocked down, anyway.]

B!
[But it's been a long day, and a long night. He'd been running around with Heather and Greed earlier, grabbing as much of the stuff lying around as he could carry...but at some point, he'd wound up wandering the place on his own. Samus and Lucky pad along on either side of him, familiar presences.]
[Something else is familiar, and when he spots the massive fluffy shape of Sunny, he makes straight for her. It's funny; during the actual fighting he was fine whenever he was on his own, but in the predawn quiet of the house it bothers him. He sets down his own loot pile, then flops to sit on the floor near Heather. Lucky yawns and curls up beside him, and Samus folds her legs to sit.]
Found you.
no subject
[She looks up at the sound of Envy's voice and gives a tired wave.]
Yo.
Sorry for wandering off on you.
I was gettin' tired.
[She reaches out to pat Lucky's head a little absently, thinking about her own two Houndooms. She really doesn't pay enough attention to them. She probably should.]
no subject
I think we all wandered off, really. I dunno where Greed is.
[He yawns, he can't help it.]
I don't feel like sleeping, though.
[It would be hard enough for him to let himself fall asleep in a big room full of strangers. But with the actual, real possibility of them all getting ambushed? Sleep's not happening.]
no subject
[She actually lets out a quiet laugh, putting her hand back in her lap and leaning back again.]
Which is bad, I mean, who knows what's gonna happen tomorrow.
If I don't sleep, I'll be a mess.
But I don't wanna.

A!
...Heather?
[What in the world is she doing up there?]
no subject
... Oh hey, Scar, what's up?
[... That is far too nonchalant-sounding to be innocent.]
no subject
I was wondering what you were doing in here so late at night.
no subject
[Heather, meanwhile, shrugs a little bit, still keeping a firm grip on the shelves.]
Couldn't sleep.
Plus, it's nice to be able to explore this place without a party going on and chaperones at every door.
[She says this as she's groping around on the shelve above her head.]

A!
At one point he ends up in the library, and just as he's about to go look for something to sit down with and cuddle with the Arcanine at his heels, both he and the oversized dog hear the whine of the Absol. Maybe it got lost in here? Or it's stuck?]
...Is anyone there?
no subject
[He might not spot Heather right away, given that she's climbed about halfway up the shelves.]
[... Then again, he might see Heather immediately, because that... puts her roughly at his eye-level. :Ib]
.... Uh.... nnnnnnnno?
no subject
Uh... A-Are you okay up there?
[With his trainer alerted, the Arcanine pads forward with his tail swaying to go say hello to the Absol. New friend!]
no subject
[And it was in text, so she doesn't recognize him. Still, UNLIKE IN A CERTAIN MONSTER GAME, Heather here is not particularly twitchy. Especially when she has an obsessively protective Absol on her side.]
Never been better! Just doing some late-night browsin'.
[UNFORTUNATELY FOR HACHI, Alessa is not the friendliest of critters. As the Arcanine approaches, her hackles bristle and a low growl rises in her throat.]
... Whoa, Alessa, cool it.
