☆ YOU ARE (STILL) HERE ☆




KEY:

• BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors, and the grounds will reflect that; there'll be the usual decorations of pretty floral arrangements, little lights, things like that. Think garden party!
• GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since this is a house party and not a hotel party, but this is where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in. (Note: you're welcome to try to sleep elsewhere, but Clair might catch you and disapprove. You don't want that, do you?)
• RED areas are unfortunately off-limits to guests! If asked about them, anyone will tell you that those are the rooms and areas that the Elite Four have claimed for themselves, and they're sealed off tight. Please don't try to break into them anyway; you'll only be caught and punished.

• AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who would prefer to class it up a little more than just your standard garden party. There's a big skylight, hardwood floors, tasteful artwork, and classy music — a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.
• AREA B will be the area of interest for anyone hoping to sneak a little Pokemon research on the side: this is the Library/Gallery area of the house. While most of it is your standard "tall shelves of ancient identical books" fare, there are a few points of interest — a sculpture of Lugia, a painting of the Ecruteak City skyline before the Brass Tower burned down, some stone etchings of what might be Fossil Pokemon, and so on. Guests are welcome to look around a little, but burying themselves in research the whole time will be highly frowned upon, and you'll be politely encouraged to leave the library alone and go rejoin the festivities if you hole up in there for too long.
• AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. More importantly, it's where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Do it anywhere else and you'll be facing some very displeased hosts.
• AREA D is the Elite Four's Trophy Room. Please be quiet and respectful if you come up here to have a look around; it's a solemn kind of place. Here you'll find various collections of badges, ribbons, awards, and trophies put on display, with one wall devoted to each member of the Elite Four. Of particular note is a glass case with a broken Ultra Ball mounted inside; the brass plaque attached claims it's the ball Lorelei was using when she almost caught Articuno. On a lighter note, there are also pictures of the Elite Four themselves — your standard Official Portraits™, sure, but also some framed candids of them in various configurations hanging out with their Pokemon and engaged in various activities around the house (Agatha making waffles, Lance and Bruno clowning around in the pool, stuff like that).

[He smirks, edging a little closer into her space, enough where he could reach out and take her hand if he wanted.

So should he graduate her to spins and dips? He's not yet sure!]

[That's encouraging! Well, then. There's a brief look of pleasant surprise, then she just relax a bit more.]

Have you been here long? I don't think I've seen you on the network before...

[But it should be apparent that she's not positive, even as she says that. Doesn't THINK she has, but could be wrong. It's also not very indicative of WHY she thinks he's familiar, or if he really is. Maybe it's deja vu.

Lead away! He might be surprised how well she keeps up.]

[That question is enough for him to calculate his next (dance) move, and he does go for her hands, grasping one in each of his and pulling her a little closer. His grip is unapologetically firm, but not tight; she could break away if she wanted.]

A couple weeks, I guess. I've been trying to figure this place out, this is my first real attempt at socializing.

I'm Dick, if I didn't mention that before. Dick Grayson.

[He smiles, winningly, and bracing himself for her to make the connection. She'd connected him to Wally, after all.]

[Katara is just inexperienced enough with boys that said unapologetically firm grip is still enough to fluster her not unlike a certain Freedom Fighter tugging her in close for a ride up to his... tree house WOW that just sounds bad STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.. If that was his goal, then, well, GOOD JOB. Her face flushes a little but Katara's not about to pull away. Besides, he's showing her the ropes here and as far as she knows this is normal and she should just be careful not to read too much into it. Fair enough, right? Besides howficklewouldshebeifsheDID?

Anyway, narrative monologue aside, he won't actually be getting a reaction from her to solidly confirm or deny any such connection. Still, for some reason that introduction DOES put a smile on her face. Even she has no idea why, JUST A FEELING okay]

Nice to meet you, Dick. I'm Katara. [and she is not wholly oblivious to the fact you might or might not be flirting right now WHATEVER YOUR REASONS ARE. They're here to have fun so why not go with it? Besides, certain other crushes are currently starting from scratch on one side and SHE IS KIND OF USED TO HAVING TO START OVER BY NOW KATARA WTF IS YOUR "LOVE" LIFE HERE GOD

So you know what her response is? She is going to get fancy with it. One of her hands she does pull free-- just one --so that she can circle around him, sort of like a classic ballroom spin (except she really wouldn't know that's what it was she's just going with it). And if he's good at improvising- which she has a feeling he is -then she expects him to sort of lead her through it.

And when she's facing him again, she grins.]

And I'd say you've either had a lot of practice or you're a natural yourself.

Both, obviously.

[He is, in fact, going to do just that, and once she completes her revolution, he reaches for the other hand again. This is going to look ridiculous, especially because he's short, but he tugs one of her arms around his shoulders and rests that hand loosely on her hip.]

Waltz or tango. You choose, but choose fast!

[And this is him banking she knows neither word-- just which does she like the sound of better?]

[The ridiculousness of the situation is really rather lost on her, because she's used to dancing with guys a little shorter than her.

Well, now her arm is around his shoulders and his hand is on her hip and what kind of dance is this, exactly? Nope, she doesn't recognize either of those words but between the two-]

Tango, I guess? [--waltz seemed the most fun to pronounce, but names could be deceiving.]

yeah so it's not like I LOOKED UP HOW TO TANGO or anything why would you say that

[He squeezes her hand, just a little, knowing that the pressure will help her be able to sense which way he's moving as he does it, not after.

And close to her ear, so maybe the other dancers won't hear him instructing her:]

Stay on the balls of your feet, okay?

[And off he takes them, a steady pace in a counter-clockwise direction].

She has an easier time than most beginners might, picking up on the way his arms and his center moves, the momentum of the steps, not to mention she's pretty sure he's intentionally giving her some extra help with the way he's gripping her hand in his.]

We don't have dances anything like this, back home. [She admits, not quite breathless but excited and intrigued, trying to commit the steps to memory.]

[So, does that mean there's no romance context for her?

He can't tell if he's relieved or not. Sure, she's pretty, but he can't say there was an instant spark, not like with Superboy and M'gann or even Artemis and Wally.]

So why'd you come here?

Well, that's not exactly right. I've been to one dance before, but the styles are different.

[A turn here, sidestepping another couple doing more contemporary dancing. She barely notices.]

I guess I was curious? It sounded like fun, and I didn't know when I'd get another chance to see Tohjo Falls.

You're here for the adventure. I see how it is.

Guilty, I guess. What about you?

Similar, I guess. Haven't gotten very far yet in the adventure, and I maybe felt a little like cheating.

[Cheating?] So do you think maybe coming here has given you some motivation to get going, after this?

Yeah. Seeing just how far everyone else has gotten, yeah, it's pretty eye-opening.

I'd like to be on that same level.

It's actually pretty easy to lose track of time when you're training your team. I guess it helps that it's peaceful here, for the most part.

[She remembers weeks of throwing herself into other people and training to take her mind off of the losses.]

Promise me a Pokemon match when you've had a chance to catch up?

[Also this dancing thing is surprisingly easy the more that the conversation goes- the more she relaxes.]

[It is easy, and speaking of not noticing things, he's holding her just a little closer.]

[Sokka would probably have a litter of catowls if he saw this. She might have her arm resting a little more comfortably over his shoulders. whatisevenhappeninghere]

Well if you're as good at teaching your Pokemon how to fight as you are teaching a stranger how to dance, I guess I am. Seems like a fair trade, to find out. [She could go into how you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat their Pokemon except for when you can't Katara, but since that's a ways off anyway she'll just leave it at that.]

Don't you have to know how to fight before you teach them? I might end up being doomed.

They take care of the hard part, really. I'm not sure how but they seem to just know how to use the moves they learn when they learn them. So you might be lucky, too.

So my job is to just... let the opportunity present itself? That's confusing.

[And considering how strictly and carefully he'd been trained, both by his parents and Batman, he's not sure he can do that comfortably.

But really, what other choice was there?]

Well, not exactly. You should probably just see for yourself, if you haven't already. [She's not sure how to communicate it, really. They know the technicalities but they need to be taught the rest? How'd they end up on this topic anyway?

I really should stop trying to find logic in a video game.

'Specially one from the 90s. They would have been too busy trying to keep the graphics from looking terrible.

So they've been around for a long time? [Context. She can read it. Also, this song seems to be winding down. Too bad, she's actually having a lot of fun dancing like this, not that she has to stop dancing all together, but they might end up parting ways soon. She debates asking for another dance. She'll still be debating after he answers.]

Uh, comparatively speaking... sort of?

[He drops her hand to make a seesaw motion.]

I was born in 1996. These games came out when I was a toddler. It was 2010 when I got here.
