☆ YOU ARE (STILL) HERE ☆




KEY:

• BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors, and the grounds will reflect that; there'll be the usual decorations of pretty floral arrangements, little lights, things like that. Think garden party!
• GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since this is a house party and not a hotel party, but this is where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in. (Note: you're welcome to try to sleep elsewhere, but Clair might catch you and disapprove. You don't want that, do you?)
• RED areas are unfortunately off-limits to guests! If asked about them, anyone will tell you that those are the rooms and areas that the Elite Four have claimed for themselves, and they're sealed off tight. Please don't try to break into them anyway; you'll only be caught and punished.

• AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who would prefer to class it up a little more than just your standard garden party. There's a big skylight, hardwood floors, tasteful artwork, and classy music — a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.
• AREA B will be the area of interest for anyone hoping to sneak a little Pokemon research on the side: this is the Library/Gallery area of the house. While most of it is your standard "tall shelves of ancient identical books" fare, there are a few points of interest — a sculpture of Lugia, a painting of the Ecruteak City skyline before the Brass Tower burned down, some stone etchings of what might be Fossil Pokemon, and so on. Guests are welcome to look around a little, but burying themselves in research the whole time will be highly frowned upon, and you'll be politely encouraged to leave the library alone and go rejoin the festivities if you hole up in there for too long.
• AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. More importantly, it's where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Do it anywhere else and you'll be facing some very displeased hosts.
• AREA D is the Elite Four's Trophy Room. Please be quiet and respectful if you come up here to have a look around; it's a solemn kind of place. Here you'll find various collections of badges, ribbons, awards, and trophies put on display, with one wall devoted to each member of the Elite Four. Of particular note is a glass case with a broken Ultra Ball mounted inside; the brass plaque attached claims it's the ball Lorelei was using when she almost caught Articuno. On a lighter note, there are also pictures of the Elite Four themselves — your standard Official Portraits™, sure, but also some framed candids of them in various configurations hanging out with their Pokemon and engaged in various activities around the house (Agatha making waffles, Lance and Bruno clowning around in the pool, stuff like that).

[ Maybe the reason Aradia admires it so much is because it is untroll-like. Although here, in this human world - bright colors and pretty things are taken for granted, almost. ]

I think you're being too modest! It's not for anyone. Even sewing...You're giving me lessons, but there's no way I could do anything like this.

[ She spins in place in her own dress, making her point. ]

It's a talent, and you are talented!

I...suppose not. [She could concede that the dress she had made looked just about perfect on Aradia, swirling around like that.] I am very glad you like it, Aradia.

[It was easier to talk about that than really accept the compliment, anyway. And then a pause, and a breath.]

...Do you really wish to dance?

There's no way I couldn't!

[ And Aradia grins, easily. ]

Of course! I wouldn't have asked you to a dance if I didn't want to dance with you! That would be perfectly silly, don't you think?

No, I suppose you wouldn't have.

[It is strange, being sure that she is here because Sollux would never come adn trying to think around that keeps making her hesitate.]

Well then, Miss Megido, may I have this dance?

[She offers a hand out to the shorter troll.]

[ She needn't have hesitated. Aradia smiles immediately, open and warm, and takes the offered hand. ]

Of course you may, Miss Maryam.

[Kanaya knew it was silly, but she still had a nervous, almost goofy smile on her face as she led Aradia out onto the dance floor.]

I have to admit the humans have some better ideas than we do when it comes to social gatherings and interactions. This is certainly enjoyable.

[Talk to fill the moment weee.]

They do have a less violent take on social gatherings in general!

I've always liked that.

As have I. Although admittedly I never experienced much when it came to troll social customs, I almost never left my island.

[Once they were out on the dance floor she turned to face Aradia, smiling still, but now uncertain.]

Have you danced with the humans before?

[timelymaid]

Well, with John. But I don't think that dance was the normal human type - but don't worry, it isn't so different. At least, I've learned how to waltz, sort of. If you want to learn!

[Kanaya bobbed her head.]

I would be quite interested, if you don't mind showing me...

[She hasn't actually let go of Aradia's hand....]

Of course not!

[ It would be a bit silly not to, now that they are on the dance floor. Aradia guides Kanaya's other hand to her waist, and puts her own free hand on Kanaya's shoulder. ]

Now, I tried to teach Sollux how to do this and he fell on me. I think you might do much better though!!! It is basically a pattern of simple steps, and as long as you have a sense of rhythm it's easy.

[She is not embarrassed about putting her hand on Aradia's hip. Well, yes she is, but she manages to suppress it under some small indignation.]

I am quite certain I can do this better than Sollux.

Considering you're a bit more coordinated than he is [ ...UNDERSTATEMENT... ] I should think so!

Now, we'll go through it slow for the first part. Basically just follow where I step, although technically you'd lead in a normal way, I guess!

[Kanaya turns her attention towards their feet, trying to follow Aradia's movements, much as she had when John was teaching her a different dance earlier.]

...Why would I lead normally?

[timelymaid]

You're taller! I'm given to believe that means you lead?

[ ...Actually, now she's not sure. B|a How do humans actually decide this sort of thing? ]

Hmm. Okay. [She doesn't mind, but for now she follows since she doesn't know what she's doing.]

Humans have very strange customs sometimes.

They do! Like all the dead Christmas plants.

[ FOREVER UNSURE ABOUT ALL THE DEAD CHRISTMAS PLANTS.

Aradia's leading admirably, though, not exactly looking at their feet, but capable of keeping up the simple steps without stamping on Kanaya's own feet. ]

I don't get that custom.

I believe they consider it a sacrifice necessary for proper holiday decoration.

[Kanaya's not precisely thrilled with the process either.]

[She follows along, picking it up fairly quickly, and eventually she can even look up from Aradia's feet, offering a tentative smile.]

I believe I am getting it.

Which makes it a bit more homelike, I suppose! Sacrifices around holidays.

[ She's pretty much teasing about that, although their home is pretty violent.

And when Kanaya looks up, she'll see Aradia has been smiling the entire time. ]

You are! I knew you'd be good at this; you've always been coordinated.

I have always been good at faking coordination, Aradia. It is not quite the same thing. [Still, the other teen was right, Kanaya was picking it up rather quickly. And she was enjoying herself as she did so...it was nice to figure out this sort of thing, and she could hardly argue with the company.]

If this wasn't the dancing John taught you, where did you learn?

[timelymaid]

It is nearly the same thing!

[ There's another little laugh at the question. ]

Believe it or not, some of my coworkers taught me. Sometimes they'll play the radio at work, when we're cleaning up after close, and...well, you get the picture, right?

[Kanaya looks thoughtful for a moment. She's worked at many of the same places as Aradia at this point, and she can't help but smile at the mental image.]

That sounds rather fun.

It is! We'll have to make certain to start something up next time we share a job and shift, don't you think?

I think I could live with that.

Well, I wouldn't make you die with it!
